I'm old enough to remember when Russia bought a nine-year-old LiveJournal to identify and stifle local dissenters who were using the platform to mobilize. The whole Twitter thing happened before and it'll happen again, over and over again until we fucking learn.

Nothing teaches you what hand/eye coordination really means until you get a fucking digitizer tablet.

The biggest winner in this #election has been #oligarchy. #Oligarchs came out openly against #democracy and used every trick in the book to divide the American people against one another so they can rule us more directly than they have ever done in the modern era. They control #CorporateMedia and they will now strengthen their control in DC.

We have been on the road to oligarchy for a long time, and 11/5/24 will be as big a milestone on it as 1/21/10 when the Citizens United ruling was issued.

It really doesn't reflect well on us as a technical society that we have allowed printers to continue to be so aggressively noncompliant for over 71 years

Hey, cis folks? And especially men? If you want some low effort trans ally actions you can take, put your pronouns everywhere.

Like, everywhere.

On here, in your profile. On your other social media. On your own website. On your GitHub profile. On your resume. In your email ‘From:' header. Your email signature. Your business cards, if you have those.

Basically everywhere you introduce yourself, in other words. Make it pervasive, normal, set an example.

Then take your privilege, wield it like both sword and shield, arguing for gender neutral language everywhere you can. Legal documents, the works.

Let us see you fight for it ✊🏻

Nvidia ( $NVDA ) is set to present earnings after markets close on Wednesday, with all of Wall Street eager to see if the AI bull market continues. Founder Jensen Huang is expected to set the tone for the industry, as Nvidia supplies roughly nine out of ten AI training chips to data centers.

Will Nvidia's results reaffirm investor confidence in the AI boom?

#Nvidia #NVDA #EarningsReport #AI #TechStocks #StockMarket #Investing #DataCenters #WallStreet #MarketTrends

in reply to MarketPlays

Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

The hell?

Got the latest #NVDA last night against my better judgement but wanted to build my addon around current software, and now when I do NVDA+Shift+s, I gt the synth selector menu but no speech output.

How the hell do I redirect audio from NVDA now?

#nvda
in reply to NV Access

@NVAccess It's not so much you guys. It's that everytime I update most things, things break in ways that detract from my overall productivity and workflow. Addons don't work and I have to wait for devs to fix that, features and functionalities get moved around. Sometimes things change so much that it's like having to learn an application all over again.

So when I mean against my better judgement, it's me commenting on the fact that no software upgrade comes without its pitfalls, so it's not an exclusively you all thing.

in reply to Kayls with Tails 🦊🐾💜

Thanks! And that's all fair enough. We try not to move settings around too often, but you ran into this one. With add-ons, while we do get developers to check them each year, it is also possible to override them being marked incompatible quite simply in the add-on store - though do that with caution. And for us, we do try to publish what is changing both here on social media, and in our blog on the site - nvaccess.org/category/in-proce… - but yes, I do appreciate your hesitation

Just updated my NVDA and Eloquence driver. Anyone know how to stop it from reading things with periods before commas as "hello dot," rather than just "Hello.,"? Upgraded from NVDA 2023 to the latest.

#NVDA #IBMTTS #Eloquence

in reply to Mister Krabs

Press NVDA+p - this cycles between the symbol levels. Symbol level none will read "Hello.," as just "hello", Symbol level Some or Most will it as "Hello dot", and symbol level all will read it as "Hello dot comma". At least, that is how it works with Windows OneCore or eSpeak.

Apple must really be getting desperate, as iOS is practically begging me to upgrade from 17.7.2 to 18.1.1. I've already received a notification that 18.1.1 is available, and saw a screen in Settings saying I can either upgrade now or tonight, but there's no option stating that I'll upgrade when I'm ready! Any thoughts on whether to upgrade or not?
in reply to James Dean

@GamingWithEars I've heard lots of good things about the updated BSI. That's something I'm looking forward to trying as it's what I use nearly all the time when writing on my phone. I'm not worried about the AI stuff as I have a 13 model, but it really doesn't interest me anyway.
in reply to Kelly Sapergia

I've used it myself and just the fact you can get into and out of it with a gesture rather than having it in the Roter so it would constantly jump to it when twisting for other things, is a game-changer on its own for me. Now I think I just need a bigger phone. The SE3 is a little too small to do BSI properly, I think. I was telling someone I do fine once I get going, but first starting to type something in it is a little iffy for me, like I'll type E when I mean to type C, that sort of thing, and he said a larger screen might really help with that.

@gajim

Hi Gajim,

Does Gajim support SRV entries with _xmpp-client._tcp names?

My XMPP server domain is chat.between-us.online. I have an SRV record that looks like this from dig:

_xmpp-client._tcp.between-us.online. 300 IN SRV 0 5 5222 chat.between-us.online.

If I try to register an account in Gajim (Linux) using chat.between-us.com, it finds the server. But if I just use between-us.com, it doesn't find the server.

I think I'm doing everything the way the prosody documentation explains it for setting up an SRV record.

Is it me? Or does Gajim not look for the SRV record this way?

Thanks for the help!

in reply to Jerry Lerman

Gajim supports XEP-0368 for SRV records, so there might be some other issue. You could ask in xmpp:operators@muc.xmpp.org?jo…

I'd love to know if your political stance has changed at all over the past 5 years. 🗳️

This isn't about whether you're on the left or right on the spectrum, but more about how your position has shifted.

Did you know you can use ActivityPub with static site generators? Well anyway, we made space to help ensure it's possible during the standards process! This is one reason there are two fields in ActivityStreams, both `id` and `url`, and ActivityPub supports both

So you can have a static site and have an AP account which aggregates said posts, allowing users to use simple static sites but offload the pubsub work
