Hi @badger, I’ve got a question: what’s your opinion on providing statically built curl binaries on your curl Releases page: github.com/curl/curl/releases ?
I know it’s customary to provide sources and leave building binaries to packagers but IMO curl is a special kind of tool that people usually need once for some constrained environments.
I’ve seen that there are already such repos: github.com/moparisthebest/stat… (that I used myself for armv7!) but I guess it'd be nice to have them in a more “official” way and your CI probably already builds it for various architectures.

In fact, I learnt a lot about how #Thunderbird and @mozilla are actually related, and I always thought it's a hardwired #Mozilla product just like #Firefox.
I'm really looking forward to the improvements in Supernova and also future updates to #K9Mail. I used to be a #GMail user but ran into performance problems on older devices and under bad networking conditions. Not a problem for good old #IMAP! :)
Great job, especially for a first episode. After using Thunderbird (and K9) forever, it was fascinating to hear the history of the project and a view of events behind the headlines. The plan for the future was especially encouraging. Looking forward to episode two.
um, I don't want to rain on your parade and I know you're not the author, but:
The pkgrel variable in a PKGBUILD is used to distinguish rebuilds due to changes in environment or the build script itself. It should not be used to distinguish differing versions of upstream source code. The pkgver variable is used for distinguishing upstream versions. A pkgver() function is used to create a specific version for each release. Also, that pkg conflicts with core/curl!
I was commenting to clarify, that there are issues with the build script and people seeing this here would run into problems trying to build/install the package.
Curl being so centric for the distribution and people installing it from other sources (and potentially breaking their systems) eventually ends up being a support case 🙃 The more people are aware of any issues, the better (in my book).
I was thinking less like a manager and more like a nerd. Are there pieces of code that are verily heavily tested (more tests, more lines in the tests) vs others that aren’t?
Because the very heavily tested ones (if there are any) would be interesting to look at. Probably solving some cool technical problem then.
Vs scaffolding code such as “read a command like option”. Which is kinda boring.
I’ve seen coverage reports that tells you how many times a row was ran during the tests, but that can be skewed by things such as loops.
Either way, I just got curious as curl is a fairly unusual piece of software and quite interesting in many ways beyond “it’s one heck of a useful tool”:)

As of now, I will never buy a new book published by Hachette, HarperCollins, Wiley, and Penguin Random House. I will source second-hand copies or borrow them from libraries, but never again pay for a new book that will put money into the hands of these content-hoarding corporations.
