I moved the #Friendica Wiki to another server. I need some people to test it and see if all works. I will then solve the problems pointed out.
The initial setup was not done by me. It was still on a server with php 7.4 because it did not work with 8.x due to some plugins. I removed those plugins, apparently not maintained since 2014.
I also saw that it loads some js from some CDN, I don't like that either, so tips welcome on that. Maybe there is a plugin that stores such stuff locally?
Also can you suggest a free service to analyze your webpage, show problem, broken links and such?
I saw that the Avatar (only a systemwide standard avatar for all users) is not displayed in my Firefox, but looks fine on Chromium. May be a DNS issue, so local issue only, seems tailscale some how messes up my DNS resolution. But please have a look for any embedded stuff that does not load!

@gmc I am constantly working on it, it was 404 for some minutes, right now it should work and also what you describe should be fixed right now. But I will adjust some nginx conf further.
The problem with defer is that all the code using g_auto* and friends will have to be rewritten, given the mismatch between the two. I don’t particularly like the fact that we’re deferring the execution of a block instead of tying it to a type declaration; it feels wrong and overly C-ish, in a bad way.
@jamesh we have been keeping away from cleanup for portable code because of MSVC; if/when they get defer support, it’s going to be hard to justify remaining on g_auto*, which means it’ll need porting from one to the other, even if g_auto* is still supported
I guess you've got more faith than I do that Microsoft will implement new C features in a timely fashion. Given how long it took them to add C11 support, I wouldn't hold my breath for post-C23 features.
@jamesh apparently (and take it with the same truckload of salt I used when I read it) they are now looking at adding C17/C23 support; of course, they are still gating C11 atomics behind an experimental flag, so, really: who knows…
We might end up dropping MSVC support from GTK5 faster than Microsoft adding C2y support, if we want to add I Can't Believe It's Not RAII™ via g_auto*.
it's not like the cleanup attribute will be going anywhere, so we can keep using g_auto* where appropriate. IIUC there were concerns that getting cleanup in the spec would imply opening the door for more RAII, and something like “defer” still would be needed anyway in cases where only getting the address of the variable is jot enough. For example you need the EGLDisplay to destroy many resources and it's not possible to get it from the thing being destroyed (like an EGLContext) without using thread-locals or relying on the current one being the right one to use, and that's a case that “defer” handles.
(I hope I'm not mixing things up, at any rate, from previous interactions, I'm quite sure @thephd would like to have more of modern constructs in the C standard, but committee and implementor dynamics make it more feasible to “boil the frog” than to add new radical stuff in one go.)
@aperezdc @thephd of course g_auto won’t go away, but if/when MSVC adds support for defer it’ll mean porting a lot of code from one to the other, and all the subtleties that it’ll entail, because now the type auto cleanup is going to be tied to statements instead. Personally, I’d prefer more RAII in C, and less assembly-with-a-syntax, but I know that the ISO WG won’t save us. I guess this is going to be yet another reason for migrating away from C in the medium-to-long term
hmm, yeah I know this style isn't without precedence but it does seem rather clunky, almost the the point it counters the convenience of g_auto.
It also comes at the cost of another keyword, something long avoided by C (pre-C23 anyway) which I'm not sure it merits especially as C23 gives us annotations, making something closer to cleanup quite appealing.
In fairness I've not read the full post yet, perhaps I'll be convinced otherwise!

Google are breaking my mittens - Sonofa. Twelve years ago I knitted a pair of “self-replicating mittens” (web-goddess.org/archive/14046) with a QR code that pointed you to the pattern for the mittens, and I entered them in the Sydney Royal Easter Show. I was pretty proud of my cleverness. In the blog post (web-goddess.org/archive/11192) where I talked about making the mittens, I said:

The Rust ecosystem, or at least the subset of projects that have stringent standards for their dependencies as enforced by tools like cargo-deny, recently lost a small but useful little library: paste (crates.io/crates/paste). The reason is that David Tolnay announced that paste is no longer maintained, and as a consequence, RustSec issued this advisory about a week ago: rustsec.org/advisories/RUSTSEC…
So as a result, some code in AccessKit has to be more repetitive. I'm sure we're not the only ones.
To be clear, I'm not complaining about David Tolnay's decision. Every open-source release is a gift that comes with no promises of further work. Deciding that he was done with that project is his prerogative.
I *am* annoyed by the RustSec advisory and the fact that it can break existing downstream projects. Not every library needs constant maintenance; it's possible for a library, particularly a simple one like paste, to just be *done*.
Nevertheless, to eliminate all possible impediments to making UI toolkits and applications accessible, AccessKit needs to meet the standards of its most demanding users. Sure, most of those users aren't paying, but the reward is more accessible software. So, right or wrong, our dependency on paste has to go. And I think I will need to reconsider my criteria for adding a dependency in the future. Clearly I need to default to viewing dependencies as liabilities.
And this is exactly how we'll get even more duplicates of simple functionality because nobody can guarantee that the library they depend on won't go dead! The idea of constantly breaking backward compatibility in a programming language to the degree they do, requiring constant, nearly full-time maintenance on the code, really puts me off even trying to learn Rust, even if it's got cool features. Maybe as we get into higher versions it'll start to become more stable?
@x0 IME backwards compatibility breaks are not usually an issue with Rust (for instance, I have a Rust crate last touched in 2017 which works unchanged with the latest Rust); they do care about backwards compatibility. What we're seeing here instead is infosec hysteria which decrees that code not being constantly maintained (for instance, one scorecard requires at least one commit per week to get the best rating in a "high risk" category) is a vulnerability.
@x0 And that's not specific to Rust; the scorecard I mentioned is language-agnostic, and from what I've seen the whole software industry is going in that direction. Rust developers might be slightly more prone to falling into it because of Rust's focus on memory safety, though Rust's focus on performance might temper that a bit.
@cesarb @x0 If anything, Rust's focus on memory safety should make a constant maintenance treadmill *less* necessary, because the software can simply be done.
I wonder what @bcantrill thinks about this, that is, about criteria that are used to vet dependencies, and whether RustSec went too far in flagging paste because David Tolnay decided to stop maintaining it, when it's quite likely that paste is just *done*. I'm thinking of Bryan because I first learned about paste from his blog. Might be a good subject to discuss on Oxide and Friends. I see Oxide is still using paste, in omicron at least.
I agree, as a default behavior, flagging any unmaintained library as a security risk is too blunt. I've never used RustSec, does it have a way to at least ignore that advisory ID?
@milas cargo-deny does have a way of ignoring a specific RustSec advisory. And I found out yesterday that this is what the downstream project that reported the problem to my project has decided to do, at least temporarily.

I am unhealthily fascinated with Suno. I've found a lot of ways to make interesting stuff out of stuff that already exists without setting off the copyright detector. And thanks to things @jaybird110127 and @BorrisInABox have posted, I know Suno can add singing to a track and follow the lead melody of it, as long as the syllabels match exactly. So, I used a MIDI file of Scarborough Fair from my old Yamaha keyboard, fed it to Suno, and tried to ask it to cover the song using the original lyrics. In theory, this should make a cover of the song with the original melody and original lyrics. Unsurprisingly, this didn't work, because Suno checks lyrics to see if they match. So, I typed in my own very stupid lyrics to see if the singer would follow the piano melody of the original demo. In short, it worked. This has insane parody potential.
While I'm talking about games: #stardew Access is so, so close to being actually fun, with a good time freeze and autofishing addon. Unfortunately, I just can't get past the way pathfinding fails sometimes, and the way crops that are watered randomly don't update to show they're watered, and the way NPCs run around like pixies when you want to talk to them, so by the time pathfinding finishes they're already gone, and the way getting into bed is still a matter of trial and error. It makes things that would otherwise be fun into a chore. But, like, the mod itself is done well enough that it makes Stardew feel like a native #audiogame, if it wasn't for the weird bugs and issues. And the game is fully playable, from what I can tell. I just can't get into the relaxing cozy vibe when I'm trying to figure out the exact direction to approach my bed at night, or wondering why the plants aren't getting watered when I'm using my watering can right on the tile, or chasing an NPC across the map who keeps walking away from me when I wanna talk to them. github.com/stardew-access/stardew-access#a11y

the NPC’s. Do you like to run away a lot. That’s why I use SMAPI commands to make friends with everybody at once. I get tired of chasing them. I found a trick for getting into bed. Let it pass, find due to the bed, take one step forward, and then hit the bed again. you’ll get the do you want to go to sleep pop up then, or at least you should
@evilcookies98 Do you have a stardew stream? I think you stream games sometimes? How do you befriend npcs via smapi? Does it still let you complete the intros quest?
I don’t know about the intro quest honestly. Never really paid much attention. When I even bother trying to complete that quest, I save it for a festival day because it’s a lot easier to track people down. Also if you want to use SMAPI, the command is debug friendall
in that case I would use a festival day to take care of the introductions. People aren’t wandering around too much and you can usually get two most if not all of them.
@evilcookies98 Thanks! I haven't had one of those yet. Mostly I just get to day five or six, realize that a crop that I thought was watered isn't, get upset that now I screwed up, and restart. Or pick up my bed by mistake, can never ever put it back, get upset, and restart. Or spend all day chasing Haley all over the map, get somewhere that leaves me completely stuck and unable to get back to the bus stop, get upset, and restart. LOL
if you get stuck somewhere, you can use debug warp farm to get back to your farm, or if you wanna warp somewhere else, substitute the name of any location for the one I just used in the example. You can work yourself to the beach, town, the forest, etc. I don’t know the names of all the buildings, so I don’t know how you could warp yourself into, say, some random person‘s house, but as for the big locations, I do know you can do that. Just don’t warp yourself to the summit unless you wanna get pushed off.

@evilcookies98 I'd buy it! And best thing is, the process for, like, installing and setting up the mod is well documented. So you don't have to cover any of the boaring stuff. Just the actually interesting tips for really playing the game.
right. Although going over basic set up for dummies might not hurt in case somebody stumbles across the book by chance and doesn’t even know there is a mod.

what about with jaws? That’s basically what I use unless I’m playing ball bouncer because for some reason they saw fit to break being able to play the game with Jaws. Before the 1.3 update came out. It worked just fine and now it won’t do squat. i’m a little annoyed by that.

I'm loving the heck out of Stardew with the Access mod, yes there are quirks and idiosyncrasies, but I challenge anyone to make a native audio game that comes close to Stardew, because so far it hasn't been done. And I love the fact that Access is continually getting worked on, there was an update earlier today that allows for accessible egg hunts and such. I do feel your pain as regards to NPC's running away from you, I just keep moving to them until I get to a place where I can actually talk to them, but it does take a lot of trial and error. Stardew does have a learning curve, but so far, I'm getting pretty used to it. It's a lot of fun.
I think the watering plant is also a visual bug. It's possible to toggle a settings to see a rectangle showing where the tool will be used (it's supposed to designate the tile on which the tool will do something) but it often shows a tile which is not the one where the tool is used! It's a problem in the vanilla game I encounter each time I play. Those problems totally may be linked.
I didn't expect my post about Swedish Television mistakenly labeling Vladimir Putin as "president USA" yesterday to blow up the way it did. What I *really* didn't expect was #Hachyderm's admins deleting my post just as it was approaching a thousand boosts. This because someone allegedly reported it as "misinformation", and that what I saw on TV "does not appear to have actually happened"... which ironically is about as Putinesque a statement can be.
So how would you fact check this? A few people commenting on the post had already done that, the way people normally do — by asking for the source. And they got it. I even boosted the link to SVT Play, where the broadcast can be streamed by anyone. It's still there svtplay.se/video/jAM5B9o/aktue…
The Hachyderm "fact checking" process doesn't ask for a source though. In fact, they didn't ask me for anything. Since there were no news headlines mentioning this blunder, it must not have happened.
I appreciate the lecture for me to "fact check my posts before posting", but the assumption that I'd want to post anything on this instance again could certainly need some fact checking.

Ball Bouncer is perhaps the ultimate culmination of a bunch of weird #blind traits in the #audiogames scene: random pointless destruction, casual games, 2d audio, and incomprehensible ball physics. Oh, and as with most of these types of games, I brutally suck at it, but feel compelled to keep playing anyway for some reason. with that game, practice makes perfect. also you could change the what they call camera view. that might help you out. I know that if I use the default stuff I suck hardcore. I have mine changed, and it is saved that way too.
@JamminJerry I mean I don't get a single streak of perfect hits, I come within one swing of getting a penalty for missing a couple times, and I get it stuck a bunch bouncing around at floor level. Compared to people who are actually any good at this I'm pretty terrible.

@prokopets That's why I put the content warning there. If the game had advertising, or otherwise involved any money going to anyone in Russia, I wouldn't play at all. But as it is, there isn't even a donation link. So from an ethical perspective, I personally drew the conclusion that running it in a virtual machine is fine.
Except that you're not running a game made by the Russian government, you're running a game created by a blind developer wanting to have some fun. Unless you're wanting to tell me that everybody in Russia is evil by default, which doesn't make you any better TBH...

Other than causing you additional audio lag and preventing the best possible experience, I am not entirely sure what does running it in a VM prevent here. What resources are we talking about?
So a game is assumed to have hidden crypto miners or malware just because it's made by a person living in a specific country? Maybe xenofobia is what destroyed democracy in the US...

In the world I live in, not every free program needs to be open source by default and there's nothing to suspect about that. He has as much of a right to choose whether to publish his code or not as does anybody else.

I am not sure if you're understanding that we're not talking about companies here. We're talking about a single, independent developer. If they wanted to push malware on you, there are about a million better ways than spending days developing and polishing an audio game.
Re: State sponsored malware, come back to that as soon as you have any evidence of this going on. Til then, you're on the level of spreading Russian propaganda, just in the other direction.

There's a certain point where we get into the realms of being both pointless and ridiculous, and we just reached it. Keep playing it in a VM, do whatever makes you happy, just don't reach out to any developers with this kind of attitude. We had enough developers quitting audio game development, both because it doesn't pay off in any way, but also because blind people are unbelievably disrespectful and entitled.

@NikJov I am completely serious. My children and grandchildren will know that russia is a terrorist state and pure evil, because everyone must know it. I avoid all russian products. I will pay attention to and try to prevent others from using any russian products because they (directly or indirectly) impact the number of rockets and Shaheds that fall on my head every day. If you don't understand why it's so important, at least be respectful of our fight and efforts to clear the information space from the russian plague.

Except that in the real world, I can't count the number of friends from Ukraine I have, and clearly they don't share your stance, nor do they think that avoiding a Russian audio game helps anybody in any way, shape or form.
