@CStamp Ontario now has wine, beer and coolers in grocery and convenience stores, and I absolutely do not see the need. As an example, there are many small communities in Ontario which *do* have an LCBO (which also has beer, including a great selection of Canadian craft beer), and *don't* have a grocery store or convenience store. Has @thunderbird for Android removed the direct Archive email button from the UI?
What a terrible change to make.
Edit: Export to Mobile from Desktop disables the Archives folder settings in 11.1 so these have to be reapplied manually for Archive button to work in the UI

@sus Yeah I have also stopped using Thunderbird and I'm just using the Gmail interface because search is totally useless now and every time I open Thunderbird I get a whole bunch of Gmail calendar alerts that I've already responded to on my phone and just will not go away even if I click dismiss all. so they just keep coming back
It's a shame that it's so terrible to use now since I've been using it since version 1.0
@Canageek We're so sorry you had any frustration with search and the calendar! Like we replied to others above, we're looking at ways to improve search, especially once we've completed some of our backend database work. And improving our calendar is one of our major focuses for this coming year!

I used it a lot and enjoyed it during my studies many years ago. I no longer need any office software, as I have created my own template in LaTeX for letters and am happy with it.
One small thing that's stopping me from going all-out for Tuta is the lack of a "not spam" button (or am I missing something?). I get lots of false positives in my spam folder and making rules for all of them is a huge pain. I see people have been asking for this for years, but it's still not there.

I have used an LLM as a validation machine before, and it has led me to do a few things that I mildly regret, even within the past month. Yes, despite my earlier critical posts on LLMs, I have broken down and used one for personal purposes quite recently. Maybe now I will actually stop.
You may have seen this tragic story about a teenager who committed suicide and used chat GPT to plan and work up the nerve to go through with it. If you are skeptical that an LLM could really be responsible the details of this case will challenge you.
With LLMs "the user is always right" they are validation machines and will reinforce and validate any idea presented in a prompt.
Any idea, no matter how bad, can be refined, amplified.

I have shared ideas and feelings with an LLM in order to have a semblance of conversation, without the vulnerability of sharing things publicly or the feeling of imposition that comes with dumping those thoughts on an actual individual human. But of course, the responses I got aren't from someone with their own thoughts, and LLMs are optimized to reinforce whatever the user says, perhaps with a few specific guardrails.
Yeah, that's sadly something all those management people seem to ignore when pushing AI down hard on everyone.
They aren't gonna take responsibility if one of their employees will run into such issues.
The "it's just a tool" excuse doesn't work, some people are just more likely to accept that fact that than others.
It doesn't help that LLM players already manipulate their models to push their own narratives/agendas and who knows with what goal you'd get manipulated while "chatting".

@ozzelot @l91459 jako že ve slibované životnosti telefonu do roku 2030 nebude mít HW telefonu dost výkonu pro operační systém? To není chyba jen FP, ale i těch, co zvyšují HW nároky software. Mebo to chápu špatně? Že FP dodává pomalu nové verze mohu potvrdit. Když vyšel Android 16, tak jsem na FP5 dostal aktualizaci teprve na Android 15. A všechny ostatní bezpečnostní patche nedokážu posoudit.
@tatageek @l91459 O výkon nejde (nároky budoucích OS bych považoval za spekulativní záležitost, byť dobře odhadnutelnou), jde o podporu od výrobců, tedy právě o tu bezpečnost.
@ozzelot @tatageek @l91459 já to sleduju už docela dlouho a z vícero zdrojů mám bohužel pocit, že vývojáři GrapheneOS jsou tak trošku malicherní ... doplň si sám. Ale dělají asi dobrý produkt.
Někdo jim dle všeho jednou ohledně fairphone odpověděl jinak než chtěli slyšet a oni od té doby papouškují tuhle přesnou odpověď a nechtějí jakoukoliv spolupráci ani zkusit.
Je to škoda, ale je to jejich právo. Já díky tomu musím volit a i přes mé silné zaměření na bezpečnost volím ekologii 🤷
@kepi Ten pocit není jen tvůj; občas to vypadá, jako by měli patent na rozum ohledně bezpečnosti v Androidech. Druhá věc je, že výrobci Android OS a telefonů - a je nutné to říkat napřímo - v naprosté většině nemají bezpečnost, a ani soukromí, jako prioritu, a potom to vypadá tak, že jediné, co bezpečně zvládnou, je zamknout svůj bootloader.
A musím říci, že v tom, co Graphene s Pixely dělají, se IMHO zaměřují na ta správná místa - ošetření paměťových hrubek, zákaz USB, storage/contact spaces, automatické restarty... Spoustu těchto featur už další systémy přebírají, protože prostě jsou dobré. A různé uniklé dokumenty od Cellebrite apod., kde hodnotí, které telefony a OS dokáží se svými nástroji prolomit, tak dávají tušit, že směr, kterým se Graphene a Pixely ubírají, tak je správný.
@kepi A ano, jsou dost úzkoprsí ohledně toho, která opatření jsou účinná a která ne. Ale...
Ne úplně dávno jsem sledoval kauzu ohledně přístupnosti - velmi důležitá věc, pokud by GrapheneOS měl být použitelný pro širší vrstvu lidí - a opět zde srovnávali kvalitu kódu a různých TTS řešení apod. A bohužel, jak to tak chodí, jsem v diskusích zaznamenal obrovské extrémy - včetně lidí, kteří nekriticky obhajovali (dle GOS nevhodné) TTS systémy, protože funkční lepší než žádné. A měl jsem v timeline lidi, kteří by vás za nepřítomnost takové funkcionality v "mainstream" OS možná i upálili.
A pak to vypadá, jako že je dohoda ke kompromisu nulová, nicméně z toho, co chápu, tak vývojáři GOS mají na obecnou kvalitu kódu, který shipují v systému, poměrně vysoké nároky, zejména pokud má takový kód přístup k celému obsahu Tvojí obrazovky, a měl by běžet s rozšířenými právy. Což, pokud vím, bylo (pro GOS) gro té diskuse.
@paulos já to s tou bezpečností vnímám podobně a vůbec nerozporuji ty jejich požadavky, naopak mi přijde v pohodě, že na nich trvají. Vadí mi ale to, jak k tomu přistupují. Prostě jako já, když mi bylo 20...
Místo neustálého kopírování jedné odpovědi o tom, jak je Fairphone hrozný a je úplně k ničemu a nemá o nic zájem by bylo dobré dát alespoň ostatním šanci, na Fairphone zatlačit. To, že o nic nemá zájem vychází prostě z jednoho šlápnutí na kuří oko a kdoví jestli ne ještě od někoho z komunity, místo přímo ze společnosti.
Prostě nebýt tohodle super negativního přístupu, minimálně já už bych dávno brojil a přemýšlel, jak vzburcovat komunitu, aby příští nebo přespříští verze Fairphonu tyhle podmínky splnila. Jenže proč bych to dělal, když z jejich reakce na 100 % vidím, že oni by stejně řekli, že Fairphone sucks...
Ale stejně, vzhledem k dalším zkazkám o tom, co Google plánuje s Androidem myslím, že budu mít brzo o pár dalších důvodu k přejití na čistě Linux phone :)

@Unreed Problém je spíš v tom, že ne každý výrobce je poctivě vydává. A protože si každý ještě ladí vlastní nástavbu, tak se nové hlavní verze systému dostávají k uživatelům hrozně pomalu – někde až po letech, nebo vůbec. To je ten rozdíl oproti Applu, kde aktualizace chodí všem naráz. @kepi @paulos @ozzelot @tatageek @l91459
