Po pořízení počítače mi zůstal ten starý. Ještě bych za něj asi pár tisíc dostal, ale raději ho daruji někomu, kdo ho potřebuje. Parametry má pořád obstojné: čtyřjádrový Xeon E3-1230, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD (můžu přidat 2TB HDD), Radeon RX 570, 24" QHD monitor.
Ideálně Brno a okolí, ale asi bych to dokázal poslat na vlastní náklady i někam dál. Jako fallback mám pocitacedetem.cz/, ale chci to první zkusit adresněji.
@theron29 o prvním vím (zmíněný v příspěvku), druhý jsem neznal, ale když dám chci vědět víc, dostanu 404. Třetí jsem taky neznal. Ale mám tam podobný problém jako u přímé pomoci u prvního. Ty výzvy jsou tam většinou z let 2020-2022, takže dnes neaktuální. No, při nejhorším to dovezu do toho Mironetu s tím, že jim důvěřuju, že s tím dobře naloží.

@pepikhipik.bsky.social ahoj, rád jí ten počítač dám, ale v tomto případě je to trochu komplikovanější. Na tom počítači byl jen Linux a jsem schopný ho tam dát zpět a nastavit tak, aby to bylo out of box použitelné pro běžného uživatele, dávat tam Windows by asi nebylo moc zodpovědné, protože nároky na Win 11 to nesplňuje a podpora Win 10 bude brzo končit. Nicméně do Prahy se následující měsíce nedostanu a nejsem si jistý, že jim to můžu poslat a jen tak hodit na hlavu. To by chtělo někoho z Prahy, kdo by jim to pomohl aspoň rozjet.

Pet peeve: people mixing up the terms "screen readers" and "screen reader users." The latter rely on the former precisely because they cannot read the screen. It is deeply dehumanising to reference work being done "for screen readers," as though the tools occupy the mind more than the people forced to use them.
It is interesting, though, how no blind people seem to humanize our screen readers. I know a type of blind person who names her cane, Brailler, etc. But nobody does the same with a screen reader or Braille display.
Eh, my current iPhone 16 pro max is currently named "Samuel's Ipod Touch". Because that's what iTunes named my first iPod touch for me when setting it up. And the name just follows from iCloud restore to device transfer.

@fastfinge I did very briefly, but only just when I was starting out. For context our Window-Eyes here shipped with a hardware dongle for protection for a very long time as well as realspeak voices, the Polish one that was installed by default being named Agata. So of course that's what we called it, the dongle that is. Because that's totally what made the computer talk. I stopped using that name very quickly when I realised I could change the voice.

I wish I could wrap my head around how inept a human brain must be in order to observe something with it's senses, immediately followed by communications that state that said object was not observed with said senses. I mean, call me unimaginative or stupid, but I simply cannot fathom how a sighted person can litterally be looking at something directly within their field of vision, directly aligned with the central axis of their not one working eye, but two working eyes, and yet they say with confidence, within half a second of being asked, that they don't see said object. Like just wow! I cannot, for the life of me, imagine that I could actually hear a sound with my ears, have someone ask me if i heard said sound, and immediately blurt out that I didn't hear it with no actual forethought or processing that I had actually indeed heard the sound. Like wow. It just blows my mind. #SightedRoomMateRant

@ZBennoui I've done remixes before,. Ideally you should let the original artist(s) know if it's a collab you did rather than just grabbing an acapella and going HAM but that is your call really.

I had a brief look at both. Matrix Calculator works but the UX is a bit janky IMO. I would get annoyed by it. MatrixSolver works and is usable. Although it doesn't seem to have all the algorithms advertised in description/screenshots.
@jacobscharmberg Thanks Jacob! For Matrix Calculator, we got 2 of 2 reports stating crashes, and 1 report stating incorrect solutions for rank; can you confirm that? Also, what would be your recommendation towards "keep or remove" for each?
can confirm crashes/freezes for matrix calculator but rank output seemed correct with the inputs I tried. Would remove it though since it has quite a few UX issues. Regarding MatrixSolver, it seems to work fine so could keep it. Although I'm not sure how many people do this on their phone. I would always use a PC for this where there are more powerful and convenient options.
@jacobscharmberg Thanks! As for your last question: I've heard there are people solely or mostly working from their phones, some of them no longer having a PC even. And in poorer areas, this might even be a question of what people can effort.

Tesco Ireland dont seem to be fans of 3rd party loyalty card wallets, such as #Catima. Today, Tesco staff refused to process my shopping as I didn't have the official Tesco App installed on my phone. There was a manager involved and the issue was over not wanting to give me the benefit of a loyalty card discount without the app (or physical card). I dont think either of your examples apply to the Tesco situation. In this particular case, there has been an on going issue of "account sharing" via sharing codes among even unconnected people as to avail of significant discounts when shopping. The result was that the data they were collecting on "individuals" was going to be rubbish.
I'll be honest, people thwarting tracking programs on such a scale is pretty cool to read to me. Though sadly they will hurt even those who don't with these moves :(

I know it's a biased post, but browsers and OSes have spell checking so one doesn't need to use Gmail's and I never liked those tabs.
But, since we are talking about this, is it just me or are Gmail spam filters kinda shitty? Lots of valid messages I get are being marked as spam and lots of spam are not being marked as spam.
google does the same on youtube. Because I opted out of history collection, it shows me a blank page saying it can’t do any recommendations when it could at least show videos from my subscribed channels.
I'm getting spell checking with gmail and with "smart features" turned off. The trick is to use IMAP with an email client on your system. Then the spelling checks are done by software you've installed on your computer.
Classic enshitiification and yet another reason to stop using gmail. In my browser I had to go settings (the gear icon), the scroll down under "General" and turn off the setting separately in gmail and workspace.
I have Gemini disabled on my android phone and don't have the app, yet checking my Gmail app settings smart features was on. It must use server side AI then? I've turned it off now but I don't use the Gmail app anyway.

When scientists try to gauge the intelligence of e.g. birds, they look at behaviours such as tool use, tool making, use of language, and self-awareness (mirror test). And all of this should be unprompted.
It seems to me that it would make sense to apply the same criteria to artificial intelligence.
Clearly, LLMs and generative AI "agents" fail the mirror test. There is no "self" there for them to be aware of. The also don't make or use tools of their own accord. In fact, they do nothing of their own accord.
Do they use language? They parse language and generate matching language, but "use" means to communicate with intent, and there is no intent there.
