Imagine you find an internet service that is useful to you. It's provided by a company in another country, but you find them trustworthy. There's a free option, but you consider buying a subscription. The price is significantly lower than e.g. Netflix or Spotify. You find the service is worth the money and you can afford it.
The question is: do you find it unprofessional / unfriendly / bad if the taxes are included in the price, or if they are excluded?
Example for "included":
»1.23 § per month (includes 0.23 § taxes)«
Example for "excluded":
»1.00 § per month (not including taxes)«
or
»1.00 § per month (not including 0.23 § taxes)«
Note: the question is only about the pricing page. The payment page lists without-tax, tax and with-tax amounts explicitly.
The answer probably depends on how pricing works in your area, so please answer accordingly.

Want: clear separation between Github user comments, and automated comments.
I want to be able to remove all automated stuff from searches, statistics, scrolling, etc.
Currently browsing repos where 90% of the interactions are bots, and it's horrifying.
Put them in a separate tab / put them anywhere else, but not where people are supposed to interact with each other...

I want to write a thing about Chinese cooking ratios.
1:8 rice to water for Cantonese congee, 1:10/12 for Teochew / Chiu Chow.
Water to egg ratio for steamed egg 1:2.5 for Japanese style, 1:3 for Chinese style
Soy beans to water for diff types of soy milk.
Good thing I have a new project (a Chinese food newsletter I’m hoping to launch before Xmas) to write all this random stuff in my brain
Sometimes the good guys win.
In an example of “enshittification” in the mode of @pluralistic check out this tray in my hotel in Vegas.
No one really wants to pay the prices here (those candy snacks are $9.99) but if you remove any item from the tray you get charged.
This is the only place that can serve as a desk but if you unplug and move the tray you get charged.
They’ve moved from providing a service to hoping you accidentally incur fees.
I once had something similar in a hotel fridge. Contact sensors would recognize each time you take a drink/snack from the fridge.
Of course, I wanted to cool my own stuff. Solution: press/trigger each sensor a dozen of times. Then use the fridge my own way. In the end, put the hotel stuff back in.
During checkout, the face of the clerk was falling apart. "I'm an engineer, I tested your fridge, but did not consume anything" left their mouth open, but it worked. No charge.

Today’s instalment of ‘living in the future is actually pretty neat’:
When I was small, the first step in decorating a Christmas tree was sorting out the lights. Lights used incandescent bulbs, on a long string, wired in parallel. At least one would have blown in storage during the year, and you had to lay out the string, find the blown ones, and replace them (and then discover you’d run out of spare bulbs and needed to go to a shop). If you didn’t, the rest would get more current and would be more likely to blow. If enough blew, the others would get so hot (they were too hot to touch in normal operation anyway) that they would set fire to the tree and burn the house down.
Now, we have LED strips, which consume a fraction of the power, don’t burn out, and are not a fire risk. They also seem to not tangle as easily, but that’s probably unrelated.

I don't know what's better -- Monero users not running their own nodes which makes them identifiable, or this blog post being a victim of Markdown Hell and every numbered point being "1." because they had the audacity of putting bullet points between the numbered points

I saw those videos too, no idea if they're serious or parodies.
This is not the first time we've seen this play out, I've seen similar statements any time a muslim person was elected to an office somewhere.
I remember there was one in the UK a couple years ago, no idea who specifically.
It seems #mixxx has very limited conditional logic when dealing with variables/toggles in the UI/skin. It is quite hard to get exclusions to work, especially when you are actually in need of a tri-state
I have a 4 decks option, but not the way I wanted it... and for now is a separate branch.

– jedete jeden hlavní profil + sandboxed Google Play,
– a několikrát denně používám navigaci v autě.
Přepínání profilů mě po čase prostě přestalo bavit.
Petition in Germany to recognize unpaid contribution to free and open source software projects as 'society-beneficial volunteering' (ehrenamt)!
This will give volunteering for e.g. @postmarketOS , @freifunk , @kde , @nextcloud , @Mastodon and other libre projects the same legal status as taking care of an elderly family member, which provides tax benefits and relaxes requirements for receiving unemployment benefits.

Here is a picture taken this morning showing off how snowy it is around here. I am putting the description in the actual post, as I think it is too big for the image description part.
The image shows a quiet residential area blanketed by a fresh layer of snow, creating a calm and wintry atmosphere. The landscape is primarily white, as the snow covers the road, rooftops, and yards in a thick, undisturbed layer. The overcast sky is a pale, uniform gray, indicating continued cloudy weather, adding a subdued tone to the scene.
On both sides of the road are mobile homes, each painted in various muted colors like white, gray, and pale yellow. The homes have small front porches or steps leading up to their entrances, some of which are partially buried in snow. A few homes have lights on inside, casting a warm yellow glow through the windows that contrasts with the cold outdoor environment. Small trees and bushes surround some of the homes, their branches heavy with freshly settled snow.
A single light gray Jeep is parked on the left side of the image near a home, with a light dusting of snow on its roof, windshield, and hood. Tire marks and footprints are visible in the snow-covered street, leading away from the direction of the camera, showing that someone has already walked and driven on this quiet path recently. These tracks carve through the smooth surface of the snow, suggesting minimal traffic and a peaceful, early moment after the snowfall.
In the background, a red stop sign stands out vividly against the snow near the center right, placed at a street intersection within the mobile home park. The visibility of the stop sign and its bright color provides a striking contrast to the monotonous whiteness of the rest of the area. Spruce and bare-branched trees can also be seen further back, some leaning slightly and covered in a delicate coating of snow.
Overall, the image captures a serene and picturesque winter morning in a modest neighborhood. The footprints and vehicle tracks hint at the beginning of daily routines in a community gently waking up amidst a snowy landscape. The quiet stillness suggests the snow may have only recently stopped falling, leaving everything wrapped in a pristine, soft layer.
If you are one of those transphobic motherfuckers who won't use someone's correct pronouns, you do NOT fucking get to say you are "in a relationship" with a chatbot.
You won't acknowledge the humanity of a trans woman, but you will build an emotional connection with a computer simulation you assigned a gender to?
Fuck ALL THE WAY OFF with that shit.

Of course! That's important to me as well.
Paddle (the company that takes care of checkout & world-wide taxes for me) have that feature in their checkout process. It works exactly like you describe.
Thanks for your input!

Well my integration is not live yet, so it's a bit early to judge them. But so far, I'm happy based on the following:
- Their pricing¹ is fair.
- Support staff responds reasonably quickly.
- Business and domain verification went smoothly.
- They cover over 220 countries & territories. They offer all the major payment methods & about a dozen local ones.
- APIs are flexible enough for me² & work well. Their documentation is one of the best I've seen in my decades-long career.
- They have been around for a loooong time & seem to know what they're doing.
I haven't heard such criticism. Regarding laws: at least for those of Germany, where I am based, there don't seem to be obvious problems because the lawyer who wrote my Terms of Service is happy with me using Paddle.
¹: I'm on a special "microtransactions" plan because my prices are all below 10$.
²: My product is a bit more complicated than the average due to the way extras can be added/removed to an active subscription.
