At work, we recently migrated to MS 365 for part of our email management and I discovered a tiny useful piece of software that simplifies for me the OAUTH2 based idiosyncratic system of Outlook and its friends.

A proxy now allows me to still use mutt, fetchmail, msmtp and exim to read and write emails.

@polyna Ineed collabrative development models predate 1998. But I am curious, why 1996? As mentioned, 98 was when the label was coined so that seems most relevant if talking about open source.

If not 98, and to highlight prior work, why not 91 with Linux's release or the announcement of GNU in 83, 85 with the founding of FSF, 89 with the GPL or earlier with the MIT & BSD licenses?

I'm sure you could list more examples that predate mine, so why 96? What milestone in 96 did I miss?

Today at 8PM UK, 3PM Eastern, Scott and JennyK will be hosting April's edition of "I'm Perplexed, What's Next?" This is a meet-up where you can ask about REAPER, OSARA, or anything around accessible audio/music production. Questions from newcomers are our top priority in these sessions, but even if you already know the ropes, still consider yourself welcome. All details are at reaperteacher.com #reaper #reaperdaw #accessibility

BlueSky is cosplaying #decentralization
rys.io/en/167.html

> Almost exactly six months after #Twitter got taken over by a petulant edge lord, people seem to be done with grieving the communities this disrupted and connections they lost, and are ready, eager even, to jump head-first into another toxic relationship. This time with BlueSky.

tl;dr:
- #BlueSky seems designed to get secondarily centralized in the "reach" layer (as they call it)
- moderation is an afterthought

going to shut down this pds as I just needed it for testing. if you want to set up your own, you're going to need a postgresql db and the repos at github.com/bluesky-social/atpr… and github.com/bluesky-social/did-…. you need to build and run the packages/pds folder in the atproto repo and the packages/server folder in the did-method-plc, copying example.dev.env to .env. then use an nginx reverse proxy to port 2583.

I love reading The Continent. I highly recommend it for perspectives from African journalists. You can subscribe to it for free on WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal.

Text of attached image from todays’s issue of The Continent:

NAMIBIA. Another small fragment of stolen Africa returned.

Finland this week handed back fragments of a sacred Namibian stone that was desecrated by two Finns in 1886.

The two, a missionary and a geologist, saw a stone in northern Namibia that no one was allowed to touch but chipped at it, ostensibly because they wanted to know if it was a meteorite. The fragments eventually passed on to the National Museum of Finland and will now go to the National Museum of Namibia.

Africans have yet to go to Europe and desecrate important sites out of curiosity.

Not that they’d get visas.
