@serrq Neither do I – I just provide easy access to the apps via my repo. If I understand it correctly you could compare it to a VPN: it tunnels your traffic through some server. Not one I would use (Cloudflare in this case) – but if your entire network is censored, what shall you do? Better have as many options as possible.

This doesn't just apply to Reddit, but I don't know why they just don't put as much of the ads as they could into API's. Ads don't work 100% of the time anyways. 9to5mac.com/2023/06/08/apollo-…

Backstory: I was using probably the only unworking combination; libssh2 with gcrypt just says "Method unimplemented" when trying SFTP with SSH keys. Much hacking later I had cross-compiled libssh, added these extra options and finally it worked... Now just need to update buildscripts and recompile six toolchains and test what all breaks with libssh2 -> libssh change :)

With the recent advancements and proliferation of AI (such as ChatGPT and other probabilistic algorithms), it may be time for individuals, companies and governments to consider exiting the centralized internet.

There is high concern over security, privacy, and safety threats exposed by artificial intelligence pioneers and industry voices who have recently come forward including Alphabet’s (Google) Geoffery Hinton referenced there as the “Godfather of AI”.

@Nuno Not sure if you saw the article from the verge, any Reddit application that is meant to be ‘accessible’ in nature, is exempt from said API price pump. With that being said though, how many Reddit apps are ‘blind specific’ besides Dystopia?

Many years ago, I downloaded a BitTorrent Sync folder that contains over 80 GB of speech synthesizers. In this folder, there is a copy of Mikropuhe 5.1 (a Finnish speech synthesizer). The Mikropuhe CD happened to contain a copy of a Speech Synthesis CD-ROM from 1999. It turns out this CD on a CD has the high quality WAV versions of the speech synthesis examples I found almost 10 years ago, and this was all sitting on my hard drive all this time! I have uploaded this speech synthesis CD at datajake.braillescreen.net/tts…

my first Android phone was the Samsung Galaxy star mobile which was released all the way back in 2013. The latest version of Android that it supported was ice cream Sandwich. 512 megs of RAM 2 gigs of storage and a 1 gigahertz single core CPU. Although Android back then was nowhere near as demanding as today's Android so these specs worked pretty well... Well for an entry level phone anyway. Later I got the Samsung Galaxy S3 and holy hell that was extremely good for its time. It helped that the shine plus screen reader was underactive development at that time and back then it was way way faster than the extremely primitive TalkBack we had, TalkBack did truly come along way now and these days you could use it as your main screen reader without issues. These two phones kick started my Android journey and from then until now I am a loyal Android person

#AudioMo: Welcome to the Shift R trick.
I play stuff, I shift R it, I hope it’s OK.

This is a track-stack with two Keyscape sounds, the Double Felt Grand, and the Dulcitone.
Shift R in #Logic is basically like the capture option in #Ableton, IE: even when the transport is stopped, it will capture what you recorded and add it to the focused MIDI track. Doesn't work with audio.

When Black and brown people that were unapologetically cruel and vicious most of their lives die, no one expects their victims to say nice things about them when they're gone.

But when white people that were unapologetically cruel and vicious to Black folk most of their lives die, there's a US societal expectation that Black folk all suddenly find something nice to say about their oppressor.🤡

No.

Others say, "OK you don't have to say something nice, but don't speak Ill of the dead!"

Also no.

I stretched AI audio tools to their limits today.
In 2011, Taylor Swift did a live cover of Train's "Drops of Jupiter" (Tell Me) during her Speak Now world tour. It was never recorded in studio. So I decided to see whether I could turn a live recording of a guitar cover from a crowded stadium full of screaming fans into a clean and listenable studio vocal that could be mixed over the original instrumental. This required heavy use of Demucs and Goyo, and I also had to clean up the ambiance track, stick an aggressive high-pass filter on it, and mix it back in so I could resurrect some of the sibilants. And being a live guitar cover, it wasn't done at any particular BPM, just whichever one sounded good--which actually turned out to be quite a few, ranging from about 150 to 166. If I finish this, I'd rather find a good guitar instrumental, but for now, here's a 20-second sample of the source material plus the first verse and chorus. I think this is a pretty crazy example of what AI can do for audio in 2023. I can only really take credit for adding the stretch markers and doing some very basic mixing.

I finished the base functionality of my time tracking #webxdc app.
While the Design still needs some love and there is still much I want to add and improve, I decided that it is "done-enough" for a public release:

I made a quick logo for my #webxdc time tracking app. Sadly I don't possess #logodesign skills, so it does not look very good, still better than no icon.

PS: if someone wants to attempt improving it, the pr is here: github.com/webxdc/timetracking…

"The Illusion of Moral Decline"

I'm appreciating this study by Adam Mastroianni today. The next time someone waxes poetic about "the good old days" and how people were so much kinder and more virtuous in the past, I think I'll send them this link. 😁

Quick FYI 🏁 🏎️

Prior to #GoDaddy killing my #POP #Email client access on June 2 as part of #Microsoft's mandate to force users onto its #Exchange protocol, I switched from #Outlook 2016 to #Thunderbird 114 Beta (which still connects w/ #POP3 + #OAuth2 - unsure if it's a glitch, but it works)

Thunderbird 114 Beta Portable (it's the version I'm using)

Since Thunderbird team is moving towards its new #Supernova #UI for Thunderbird 115, there's a mixture of old & new menus

in reply to Jason Pester

It's not a glitch! We still fully support POP3, and will continue to support it through the Thunderbird 115 release cycle (and likely beyond that, as long as the protocol is still supported by the mail providers).

Thanks for trying Beta, by the way. Feel fee to join our discussion group if you want: thunderbird.topicbox.com/group…
