As a screen reader serving the blind & vision impaired, our users rely on audio rather than visuals, therefore this week we bring you an audio testimonial from Jacques in South Africa. Jacques is a technical specialist for a financial organisation.

@rats @KaraLG84 Thanks! I actually usually make them myself so I know they are accurate - I needed to do it for a video the previous week which was in Spanish (and I don't speak Spanish) - so having figured out how to do it for that, I thought I'd try it for an English one. Lots of feedback on the experience, so I think I'll go back to hand crafted captions this week :) Thank you for taking the time to articulate those issues!

Not a complaint, just an observation: doing a bunch of maintenance work worth several years in one afternoon hammers home how much work it is to just keep projects in shape, running, passing CI etc without adding a single feature. I would love to get rid of reST too, as it feels like the tooling including GitHub is falling apart, but I’ve run out of time.

@matt Nowadays I use Sphinx + myst-parser.readthedocs.io/en/… for everything except for the API page (until MyST’s autodoc story gets better). Eg github.com/hynek/structlog/tre…

30 millon? How many minutes does it take Jeff to print that money?

That's less than their pocket money. There should be some zeros added. BEFORE the comma, of course. It must hurt. Currently it's just a question of "how much violations can we afford before it breaks even". It must be each. single. fee. hurting.

My, that is as if one gets fined USD 5 for stealing a car while being allowed to keep the car. Yuck. That's not a fee. It's a lame cover of "we're doing something". Grrrr…

@serrq Neither do I – I just provide easy access to the apps via my repo. If I understand it correctly you could compare it to a VPN: it tunnels your traffic through some server. Not one I would use (Cloudflare in this case) – but if your entire network is censored, what shall you do? Better have as many options as possible.

This doesn't just apply to Reddit, but I don't know why they just don't put as much of the ads as they could into API's. Ads don't work 100% of the time anyways. 9to5mac.com/2023/06/08/apollo-…

Backstory: I was using probably the only unworking combination; libssh2 with gcrypt just says "Method unimplemented" when trying SFTP with SSH keys. Much hacking later I had cross-compiled libssh, added these extra options and finally it worked... Now just need to update buildscripts and recompile six toolchains and test what all breaks with libssh2 -> libssh change :)
