Seven questions on semantic & accessible HTML navigation lists

I have a question regarding a semantic HTML construct, and I'd like to know what the current consensus is (if there is one). So here goes:

Should navigation links be placed in an unordered list in a <nav>?

The spec doesn't recommend anything, but examples from MDN (developer.mozilla.org/en-US/do…) and WHATWG (html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage…) consistently use lists unless the contents are written in prose. Is this still the preference more broadly?

I have some other questions in this area. Safari removes list semantics if you remove the bullets (with exceptions, such as if the list is a child of "nav"), due to alleged "list-itis". At what point do lists become inappropriate? If I have a list of blog posts, and I format them as cards, with a heading, publish date, summary, and an image, is that too much content for each <li>?

Also, MDN and WHATWG point out not all links should be contained in navs (such as footer links), and "nav" should instead signal major blocks of navigation links. Would my prior example of a list of blog posts count as a major block? Should I enclose my list of blog posts in a nav? Does that extend to all section, category, and tag pages listing pages in that section/category/tag?

Feel free to respond if you have opinions, but keep it civil, and boosts are appreciated.

This bullshit is going to condemn our species to extinction unless we find a way to depose these sociopaths.

"So many people who used to work for wages instead started businesses that there was less competition for wage work, and overall wages in villages rose as a result."

The 12-year #BasicIncome pilot in Kenya is resulting in tons of new businesses, higher wages, and happier less-stressed out people.

Hey! Did you contribute to the #LibreOffice project in November? If so, claim your cool free sticker pack now: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #foss #OpenSource

LibreOffice supports symmetric and asymmetric encryption for OpenDocument Format (ODF) files.

Select File > Save/Save As

The "Save with password" option encrypts the file with AES-256.
The "Encrypt with GPG key" option encrypts the file with a public key.

Bad news about the Simple Mobile Tools: bought by ZipoApps

Recommendation if you installed from Play Store: uninstall and reinstall from F-Droid instead to prevent nasty surprises.

@IzzyOnDroid Ehy Izzy, sorry to bother you, but have you read this? libreddit.oxymagnesium.com/r/S… the community will probably need some new foss apps to replace SimpleMobileTools ones, maybe you could check here libreddit.oxymagnesium.com/r/S… to add new apps to tour repo? I'm not really sure if there is nothing anyone can do, but I thought about letting you know. Again, sorry to bother you and have a nice day!

Oh, PPS: Maybe also include the corresponding F-Droid/IoD links with your list? Eg OpenContacts is here: f-droid.org/packages/openconta… – ConnectYou here: f-droid.org/packages/com.bnyro… – Koler here: f-droid.org/app/com.chooloo.ww… … Makes it easier to spot those still needing packaging 😉

Tibor made a statement 2h ago. The apps probably will become closed source (which IMHO is a clear license violation, as they are GPLv3 and thus for a license change, *ALL* contributors *MUST* agree, which they certainly won't).

Today's the day! At 2 PM EST, join Nick Giannak III (@nick), Jayson Smith (@jaybird110127), and Matt Campbell (@matt) on one of the geekiest afternoons ever to happen in internet radio. They are going to break things - pairing down a linux kernel until booting is impossible, deliberately dying on Oregon Trail, more - and have lots of fun, technological discussions. "What does this do?" Find out!
