The Trials and Tribulations of Setting Up Android Phones for Non-English Speakers in 2024: Google and Samsung are the Typical Culprits accessibleandroid.com/the-tria…

this post @capjamesg wrote is almost plucked right out of my brain; been having these thoughts for a while, and i'm so glad to share it. thank you for writing it, james!

"To have a personal website is, presently, an act of rebellion. It is a statement. You are saying: I want to define my experience on the web. I'll let you in on an open secret: Big tech companies aren't the only ones who get to decide how we share ideas on the web. The web is yours. You can put up a website where you share whatever it is that you want to share with others."

I wrote about enabling 24-bit color in terminals, which ended up turning into a history lesson. chadaustin.me/2024/01/truecolo…
in reply to Chad Austin

The link to the kitty graphics protocol is useful all by itself. I've been thinking of designing a terminal protocol for conveying accessibility information, for modern TUIs that are complex enough that they're not practically accessible with a screen reader because there's nothing conveying the structure of the UI, only the text and the current cursor position. I'll have to study the kitty graphics protocol to learn how a new terminal protocol can be defined.
in reply to Matt Campbell

@matt I have some thoughts (with no conclusion) on accessibility for the terminal in github.com/wez/wezterm/issues/…

If you're thinking of writing up a protocol, I would suggest using OSC sequences rather than doing what kitty does for the image protocol, as they are a bit easier for most terminals to recognize and ingest than the family of sequence used in the kitty image protocol.

gist.github.com/egmontkob/eb11… describes OSC 8 hyperlinks, which are like html `A` elements, but for the terminal.

So, our little curl HTTP/3 benchmark made it to the orange site.

Mostly positive comments, only a small thread about C vs. Rust. I wish more people were aware that ‚cargo‘, rust‘s build tool, is using libcurl to get all the rust packages you need.💁🏻‍♂️

Same btw. when you use ‚git‘ with https: urls. It‘s a bit more ubique than people think.😌

in reply to Ondřej Surý

@ondrej @jeroen @bagder I believe that the cargo writers chose libcurl for a reason. cargo is a solid piece of software.

If/when someone writes a pure Rust version of what cargo needs. that is totally fine with us.

It only becomes comical when a Rust Evangelist despairs at us continuing to work on curl when they rely on it daily.

Mainly testing the share to Mastodon button I'm finding on blogs now which is super nice and super epic!
