The Daily Telegraph is COMPLETELY losing its shit:

"I hope you enjoy horror films, dear readers, for British politics is about to be turned into an infernal, soul-destroying hellscape worthy of the sickest of Hollywood minds …"

(Starmer is apparently the leader of a party of "left-wing stormtroopers". If only it was true!)

in reply to Charlie Stross

What the hell am I reading... This is amazing. As a set piece of hyperbolic polemic, it leaves nothing to be desired. I can't stop shedding tears for the tory non-entities who will lose their cherished rights such as... checks notes... ministerial cars and special advisors.

Seems to be a lot of "I don't understand why this tool for people who can't remember a string of options is needed, I'm perfectly capable of remembering a string of options". Never change hn.

For more than 20 years, I’ve downloaded files using wget because I could never remember curl options.

It turns out that I was not alone.

@samueloph created a simple wrapper around curl called "wcurl". This is brilliant! And, yes, the name is very intuitive. Best of all, it is already in Debian (and on my system) but it should really be part of the official curl distribution (ping @bagder )

in reply to ploum

as a non-native speaker of English I always read "w(e)get" (mostly in my head, e pretty silent), not "double yu get". wcurl standing for "we curl" (instead of we wget) would be a nice statement :)

No guide about Base (database editor) and Basic (BASIC IDE) ?
in reply to Alnotz

@alnotz The 500 page Base Guide is here: books.libreoffice.org/en/ – It's for an older version of LibreOffice, but there haven't been huge changes in the last few years. Re: BASIC, there are lots of guides on our wiki. Remember that the documentation is written by volunteers, so if you're missing something, please help us to fill the gaps 😊

Stevie Nicks has begged fans to wear face masks, claiming if she catches COVID-19 she "will probably never sing again".

The 72-year-old Fleetwood Mac singer urged fans to take the coronavirus pandemic seriously, and adopt precautions to limit the spread of the virus.

Nicks wrote on her Facebook page: "A lot of people still aren't taking the wearing of a simple mask seriously - or, just trying to be aware of how close you are to others... It is not political. It is a silent killer hiding in the shadows. It is stalking you. It doesn't care who you are... It's just looking for a victim."

She went on: "If I get it, I will probably never sing again. Put me on a ventilator and I will be hoarse for the rest of my life - I don't have much time."

The Go Your Own Way singer compared the pandemic to the 2018 Ryan Murphy TV series she guest-starred in, American Horror Story: Apocalypse.

She said: "What's going on in our country now, is a real American Horror Story. Nobody is leading us. Nobody has a plan. Unless people change their attitude from - Oh this is such a bummer to stay in and wear a mask and follow the rules, and not party' - We will never get ahead of this virus."
She added: "This is a real American Horror Story. It is not a mini-series - it is a tragedy."

Niekto pasívnu dovolenku v rezorte pri mori zaznáva, ja ju však, raz za rok, mám naozaj rád. Veľa spánku, veľa jedla, veľa slnka, vody... žiadne plánovanie, žiadne rozhodovanie, nič - proste vypnúť mozog, a to úplne. Maximálne ešte nejaké ľahké, ultra zábavné čítanie - nejakú Zemeplošskú klasiku od Pratchetta...

Takže tu som sa posledných niekoľko dní váľal a nehanbím sa za to... Dnes už späť do reality. Bolo to skvelé.

“We often dismiss skills that are not societally valued by pretending they are not skills. Or, sure, maybe they're skills, but they're mysterious and ineffable!
“You reinforce this idea each time you say ‘soft skills’ instead of working to enumerate them. Perhaps you mean ‘interpersonal skills,’ ‘leadership skills,’ or ‘communication skills.’ These are all technical skills, and they all have names.” - Sasha Laundy 🔥🔥🔥
