also, a lot of games fail to download, could you eventually either remove them or host them in a more permanent place? when I try to download the super mario bros audio rendition and a lot of other games, I get error downloading <file_name>, installation can not continue and stuff like that. Is it only me? O yeah, and also stuff like danger at the wheel is giving me ShellExecuteX failed, what's that even? agm doesn't give me any more logs besides that

"Testing has been completed of a device for carrying out irradiation tests of various radioisotopes - such as yttrium-90 - at the two pressurised heavy water reactors that make up Phase III of the Qinshan nuclear power plant in China's Zhejiang province.
There is no isotope irradiation test function module in the original design architecture of the pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR), People's Daily reported. It said this meant that the Qinshan project team needed to create a special device that could seamlessly embed the isotope irradiation test function and is compatible with the existing design of the reactor, as a core irradiation test platform. It noted medical isotopes are mostly short-half-life isotopes, which require the rapid loading and unloading of irradiation test targets during the normal operation of the reactor.
"After repeated adjustments, the project team and the design institute finally designed a prototype of the device concept," People's Daily said. The isotope irradiation test platform reportedly has the ability to automatically load and unload isotope irradiation targets online.
"During the debugging and verification process of the device, it underwent thousands of action tests, which fully verified the reliability of the device," People's Daily said. "On 3 April 2023, the National Nuclear Safety Administration officially approved Qinshan Nuclear Power to use the irradiation test device to conduct yttrium-90 irradiation tests. On 23 April, the project team continued to work for nearly 120 hours during the overhaul of Qinshan No.3 Plant, successfully completing the device installation, cold commissioning and system identification operations. On 14 December, with the first yttrium-90 target successfully unloaded from the reactor, the hot test of the device was successfully completed."
The report noted that this marks the official completion of the first commercial reactor isotope research and development platform in China.
"The platform has successfully realised the research and development and production of short-half-life medical isotopes for domestic commercial reactors, opening up a new path for the localisation of medical isotopes and the development of radioactive drugs," it added. "In the future, Qinshan Nuclear Power will continue to deepen the production of reactor-irradiated isotope irradiation, and contribute to the independent and controllable supply of medical isotopes and the expansion of diversified applications of nuclear technology in China."
China National Nuclear Corporation's Qinshan comprises seven reactors, making it China's largest nuclear power plant. Construction of Phase I of the plant - a 300 MWe pressurised water reactor (PWR) which was the first indigenously-designed Chinese nuclear power station to be built - began in 1985, with the unit entering commercial operation in 1994. Qinshan Phase II is home to four operating CNP-600 PWRs, built with a high degree of localisation. Units 1 and 2, comprising the first stage of Phase II, began operating in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Units 3 and 4 entered commercial operation in October 2010 and April 2021. Phase III consists of two 750 MWe pressurised heavy water reactors supplied by Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd and commissioned in 2002 and 2003.
In April this year, CNNC announced that the Qinshan plant has started mass production at one of its PHWRs of carbon-14, which is used in medical and scientific research and in fields including agriculture and chemistry as well as in medicine and biology. @simon it didn't add a lot, but super noticeable on Realtek with enhancements on. I never quite liked how hollow they made my speakers though so having them off is just not a big deal, and if I'm watching cinema content I'll briefly enable it.
It's true you can't please everyone man, but I'm glad you're trying to take the middle ground when doing this stuff. Besides it's not like the opperation is as slow as vocalizer or some synths out there, so I don't know what's the big issue, If they can make it better I think it's cool if they try, but honestly I think you're doing a good job on this! It's clear that even people that had never owned this synth love it, but as for me I'd take something that doesn't static and hurt my ear. You're doing good, don't you forget that. I see you on the AG.net forums, you do some good work if I do say so myself.

Even though you aren't from "The blind community" as it's called, the fact that you worked with us after so many discovered the engine is nothing short of remarkable, and building that Speak tool even if the initial goal was to help with musician work. That was really half my motivation for the project because I saw how often you kept updating it and filling in more requests people had asked for. If you do end up working on any other older software synth like that we can open source a minimal UX +dll with, I look forward to also potentially adapting it if I can to work with NVDA.
I wonder what the speak-window does different since it doesn't seem to have audio issues? would disguarding the NVDA-addon and only having sapi5 bestSpeak be easier? With the addon, people will complain about it breaking every year or so whereas sapi5 should just work. "ini" file could be used to adjust advanced settings like inflection and headsize?

Previously, handle closing and re-initialization might happen from multiple placesโeither the main thread would try to re-init before the next chunk, or _speakBg() would close the engine after finishing. This created a race condition where both the main thread and the background thread could attempt to manipulate the engine handle around the same time. only the _speakBg() threadโafter finishing the TtsWav callโhandles closing the engine now.
I managed to set it on fire twice in about 2 minutes. The biggest problem now though is it interrupts and refuses to read some stuff if you're too quick.
@TwoThousandStu here's what I know. In the current setup, each call to speak() tries to initialize the engine and start reading immediately. If cancel() or re-initialization logic runs too soon, the in-progress chunk might be lost. But I think I have an idea for this one.
oh interesting! Any old copies of nvda-old.log would help (and if it made the same squeaking noise, find the log in %temp%) - but if you didn't have logging level on, that ship may have sailed the port sadly. Good to point down any minor issues in case adjustments to it are needed, sometimes Unicode characters can still throw it off (even though it does try to re-code to CP1250 to help, but it doesn't convert unicode chars to ansi right now)
Personally, it's better than it was. Though if I'm being honest, I think there should be a dictionary specific to the synthesizer just like Eloquence. For example, for the game Manamon, obviously, keynote can't say that correctly, so I think that should be one thing in the dictionary. If you want, I can help figure out how to get it to say certain things right.
@mckensie yeah eventually we might need a community dictionary for it, although the rules for how to pronounce things would probably be very different than on Eloquence so I'm expecting that one to be more of a collective effort xD
I did some testing with zlib-ng, which Fedora and Arch are already using as a replacement for the original zlib and Debian plans to as well, and I'm not happy with what I found.
[...] With the original zlib, you will always get an identical output stream given the same input stream and compressor parameters [...] I expected that zlib-ng would often produce a different output steam than the original, but what I found was a lot more non-deterministic than just that.
With zlib-ng, feeding the data into the compressor in e.g. 1024-byte chunks always gave me a different output stream than using 4096-byte chunks [...] In fact, every chunk size I tried gave a different output. And that's with fixed size chunks, which is not a given if you're handling e.g. a stream of input.
Even using the same buffer size, I cannot get an identical compressed output stream with Python and Java any more [...]

@twynn fixed :) if you re-download the add-on (should be 0.095) it will have this logic reversed to be correct, looks like it also operates on the same assumptions as the phrase prediction one.
Thanks. What are the rate, pitch, volume, etc defaults supposed to be set to upon initial install? 100% volume does seem to be a bad choice as a default, though I don't know if there's just a de facto standard or an actual one given my lack of experience with the synth.
@twynn ah yeah. I had made it 90 for volume at default in this version, 90 to 95 feel like solid (100 is where it starts to clip.) I think pitch is 15, inflection 60 and rate 50 though now.

I made a version of BestSpeak that doesn't destroy or close the handle after each chunk, but keeps it open and sends multiple speech chunks to it at once, creating the memory corruption static noise right away for you. I 100 percent agree with this. So many things clicked as I read this. Even my banking app, telling me to try this other thing, shown every time I login. And there's no button a lot of the time to just flatly refuse it, it's always "maybe later," "another time," "not now," etc. Or the messages that creep into a commercial screen reader, trying to get you to listen to a podcast. Some AT isn't imune from this either I don't think, just like the example above. Thank you for sharing this.

@lucasmz โ I only wanted to make the short and long descriptions translated (not even the changelogs) but I didn't find any way to do it except creating different components for each file which seems a bit of an overkill... Do you have any suggestion? I'll delete the "metadata" component in case and recreate it as needed.
@lucasmz โ Thanks for the suggestion... I managed to exclude changelogs and the title using key masks, moreover I set all source messages as read-only for both components (if there are errors in English, people will either submit pull requests or open an issue in the tracker).
@lucasmz โ Just out of curiosity: did you experience translations being "vandalised" by strangers who intentionally deleted or messed them up to harm the project?
