@TomGrant91 I'm not sure as I haven't tried the add-on. I just found the message about it and wanted to pass it on. It's not something that I personally need.
Fair enough, just found out it caused an NVDA startup error in the log! So probably will need a couple updates. I was just trying it myself because of the birthday thing. But fair enough, you had a fair point. We got phones that can do exactly the same thing, even medications these days.
Something’s been bugging me about how new devs and I need to talk about it. We’re at this weird inflection point in software development. Every junior dev I talk to has Copilot or Claude or GPT running 24/7. They’re shipping code faster than ever.
In case it helps, I know a young developer (first or second year in college) who is against the use of LLMs for code generation for at least some of the same reasons you are, and likes to do low-level coding in C or C++. For what it's worth, this developer is blind. This generation isn't entirely a lost cause.
@matt I'm not really worried about the new generation of coders. I'm worried about the industry being run by people who think this is desirable and being uninterested in hiring people who can actually code.

FWIW, it's not clear from the alt text that the whole first image, and apparently part of the second one, is quoting someone else, and then you're responding. I understood by the time I read the alt text of all three images, but at first it sounded like even the first image might have been you talking. Yeah, it sucks that the screenshot can be arbitrarily rich, while the accessible version is just a linear plain-text string.

Ummm, I have updated to @Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox daily 137 20250214 and subsequently 20250216 and I have embarassing issue with it. I can't send emails. When pressing ctrl+enter or corresponding item from the File menu, nothing happens. I'm on linux. Let's look into the bugzilla if someone else has found it too.
@Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox I have discovered this is not a bug but some kind of corruption in my thunderbird profile. This is printed to the console while trying to send an email. All the sqlite files in the profile folder have some content, none of them is corrupted according to sqlite3 pragma integrity_check; but I still can't figure it out.
I just migrated my personal #XMPP server based on #Prosody to its own #selfhosted server. I could not believe how easy it was, including transferring configuration, accounts, stored messages/files, etc.
BTW, the new server is just tiny, with 1GB of RAM, and it still seems to use only a fraction of it.
I suppose this is the result of dealing with an amazing protocol (XMPP) coupled with an excellent piece of technology (Prosody) 👏

@matt Yup, I've even used it. But SetWindowSubclass is a lot more convenient. I assume it just does the same thing behind the scenes, but I'm always happier to use something with less potential footguns (assuming it doesn't involve rewriting or re-learning the world).
I suppose if there is one positive thing about the current environment here, it is that people in the media and in political life who think being blind automatically makes you ignorant and incompetent feel emboldened to be more upfront about it. That allows us to tackle it head-on. For years, in various capacities, I have campaigned against the use of the word "blind" to equate with these things, because it subconsciously reenforces stereotypes about blind people. It is very difficult for a blind person to find employment, sometimes because of lack of training, and often because, despite training, we are deprived of opportunity due to common misconceptions. It is a struggle to find people who believe in us, and the need for public education is ongoing and real. In the US, the Federal Government has in recent years been a place where qualified, competent people who happen to be blind can thrive and be recognized for the talented people they are. So it is deeply disappointing that a capable public servant who is blind is being ridiculed and discredited not for anything he said, not for being bad at his job, because he clearly is not, but merely because his blindness is being used as a weapon and a tool of derision. This release from the National Federation of the Blind is so important. Blind people cannot allow this sort of discourse to go unchallenged.
