Do you think inviting Jeremy Bicha (offenderradar.com/offender-det…) to be a presenter at the conference was really a good decision on the project's part? What message does this send about Debian's values, and what does it say to the victims of sexual abuse?

My favorite DOS spreadsheet was As-Easy-As. It's probably still my most-favorite spreadsheet ever. 🤓

I recently interviewed As-Easy-As coauthor Paris Karahalios about how the spreadsheet got started (analyzing Chernobyl data!) and growing TRIUS Inc.

It's a long interview, but a super interesting one with loads of detail! 👍

Do I keep this stopwatch running or reset and stop it.

It's been going since July 2023 and has survived a phone transfer (intact, surprisingly).

This has definitely got to be a world record. It definitely isn't where Apple got to testing. It is broken, the milliseconds flash (not actually counting) and the seconds only update every 20 seconds or so. I did report to Apple but they never got back to me.

Well, that was weird.

I have a microphone up in the room, which is connected to a DBX 286S dynamics processor, which is set up as a compander.

A couple of rooms away, a paper shredder was turned on.

The ratio of the gate, when I am speaking nowhere near the microphone, has an odd modulation effect, so naturally, I had to record it before the paper shredder got turned off.

I just released version 4.0.0 of my #Digalog #watchface for #garmin.
⌚️ Almost all Garmin watches are now supported
📊 Complications are added around the dial on newer models that supports it
🔥 Several burn in protection measures implemented on amoled devices
🌈 Better configuration defaults on 2 and 8 color displays
🖼️ Slightly improved notification and alarm icons
💬 Added spanish translaiton
⚙️ Many internal reworks like adding strict types, build optimizations etc.

I'm impressed by the neoliberal circular logic here.

The U.S. DoD "had" to move off its own computers to the cloud to save money. But the only way the cloud was cheaper was if Microsoft employed people in China at much lower wages to maintain it. So they "had" to invent American "digital escorts."

Basically, the cloud is only cheaper for the U.S. military if it is completely and totally compromised by its most powerful geopolitical adversary... 🤔

Ah, just ordered like $150 of meats, snacks, and other items from magyardeli.com/ - for Hungarians such as myself, this place is a nice haven of products shipped out of Florida, rather than Hungary directly. I had purchased some products from the european-products.net store, which appears to have a larger selection, but they ship direct from Hungary, which means shipping can take as long as 2 weeks. Super excited though to get this new set of stuff, including some yummy smoked sausage!

The Orbit Player starts shipping July 21!

A while ago, I posted about “views”, a new definition we've been working on at AGWG, the group that makes WCAG.

Good news, we resolved on using a specific definition (draft). Updated my post to explain: hidde.blog/views/#heading-5

thanks to all who chimed in, and specifically the efforts of co-chair

#MapComplete can now be downloaded as #Android #app from the official #Fdroid-repositoried!

Download via f-droid.org/packages/org.mapco…

This is a packaged version of the webversion, so features will remain the same between visiting the website and the app. Using the app has the advantage that all assets are already on your device, requiring less network.

@lostmonkey @fexplorer
Sweet, thanks a lot, I am very grateful!
So far, everything works well, I could login to OSM, make changes and upload them, including uploading a picture. If I run into any issues, I'll let you know.

(And the app is a big improvent compared to using MapComplete in my mobile browser, which was very slow on my phone.)

Hey @oxidecomputer, here's a possible question for your FAQ Friday series: Why only sell a full rack, and do you have any plans to go smaller? Even a single Oxide sled has a _lot_ of processing power, RAM, and storage.

Prompted by a boost (by @jmc, incidentally an Oxide employee IIUC) of a post about Broadcom consolidating onto fewer VMware private cloud providers: eigenmagic.net/@daedalus/11486… I don't use VMware cloud stuff, but it just got me thinking about this question again.

I contributed to #OpenStreetMap! But I didn't know that Cyclofix was going to ask me questions, so now I have to go back and test the pump and such, even though my bike is perfectly fine 😂 mapcomplete.org/cyclofix

#OpenStreetMap for #Portland is so extremely outdated that I discovered there used to be a restaurant called Daruma Sushi that closed in 2019 in the same space that is currently hosting Feral. Orange & Blossom was missing entirely. I tried to update both, but since #OrganicMaps didn’t let me log in, I’m not sure if my updates will sit in a queue somewhere…

In any case, #OSM is far from being a reliable #GoogleMaps replacement, unless you somehow already know exactly where you’re going 🙃

I am uploading pictures (#PanoramaX), as well of other details, in the bicycle parking theme of #MapComplete. I like to take the pictures and upload several afterwards. As sometimes I didn't remember whether a bicycle parking has already pictures or not I find useful this simple overpass(overpass-turbo.eu/)that shows you which ones in an area lack them.

I share it JIC anybody find it useful:

I’m not good at this type of thing, but if you can help share this post I’d appreciate it. My niece Runa is currently in the NICU, and her parents are facing some tough times while they focus on her care. Every little donation can really make a difference for them during this challenging period. My niece Runa is such a fighter, she has fought for her every breath since day 1, she is improving but there’s a long road ahead. Her parents have been a powerhouse of a team while all of this is happening and any kind of donation that you can make would help them in such a huge way. If you are not able to help in terms of donating that is completely understandable, but sharing this post will also help in a way that is just as valuable as donating money. Thank you for your time and from the bottom of my heart from my family and I if you do donate thank you for your donation. Or sharing gofundme.com/f/help-runas-figh…

IMPORTANT: We're pre-disclosing two high severity CVEs in Matrix's federation protocol, which will require a coordinated upgrade on July 22nd of all servers running in untrusted federations. Client developers may need to make minor changes too. Please see matrix.org/blog/2025/07/securi…

Hyrum's Law: With a sufficient number of users of an API, it does not matter what you promise in the contract; all observable behaviors of your system will be depended on by somebody.

- Implementation details suddenly are the spec

- Documentation is a suggestion of intent rather than reality

Wednesday, time to switch coffee places for diversity's sake.

lokjo.com -> just type 'coffee' and select 'coffee break' and it'll show you all places, at once, except corporations, or advertising, or 'suggestions', and without taking your data, or anything.

It just shows you all coffee places, like a fair map should do. 😊

edit: explained a bit more clear

Ah yes, low amount of places happens sometimeswith OSM, it might be a reason for some people to help out, if they have time of course.

They are sorted byplaces who are noted as coffee-places or those who noted down they serve coffee, like some bakeries, newspaper stands etc.

If you know some places you can add them through @MapComplete or through osm.org.
