some time ago my company paid a consultant for a 2-hour webinar on "how to become more productive with Copilot" and in the middle of it the guy proudly told us that a few weeks earlier he forgot he had to do a presentation for a client so before the meeting he "just pointed Copilot to the SharePoint folder and then used the result and everybody was happy," and in my mind I was like "we are the people that pay you for that crap, are you sure you should be telling us this 🤨"

Really excited to say that I've been accepted to Northeastern's align masters in computer science program. This is designed for people like me who didn't do computer science in college, I don't have a ton of coding experience, but wanna break into the field. Honestly, I'm a little scared, I don't really know what to expect, but I'm excited as well.

Let’s blame all the terrible unhelpful documentation out there. They say any documentation is better than none – sometimes only barely true. I expect some folks decide to avoid the bad docs experience by avoiding docs.

The documentation probably wasn't written from a blind perspective. Were there 3 plus signs to indicate the start of a new section and a podcast that spends 45 minutes telling you about what's going to happen in the final 5 to go along with it?
I try to make sure I document how to do something useful in most of our blog posts purely so when someone asks how to do that, I don't need to write it out (again), I can just point them to that already existing resource. The ones which annoy me are when someone asserts that something isn't possible when actually, it's very possible and well documented, and please stop telling other users that...

Has anyone started a set of #NVDA dictionaries for the #blastbay#TTS voices yet? Now that the SAPI bugs in #NVDA are fixed, I'm trying them out for a while. Problems I'm noticing: number reading is...weird. And change pitch for capitals doesn't work. Also, a set of NVDA dictionaries will be really badly needed. It's not as bad as eloquence, but I've got five entries after just a few minutes use. But these on Windows and the Siri voices on IOS could maybe, finally, perhaps, get me off eloquence.
@dandylover1 Because I loathe the way it handles numbers in dates, and that can't be changed. I want all four digit numbers beginning with a 1 or a 2 to be read as years: "nineteen eighty seven", not "one thousand nine hundred and eighty seven". Every synth but espeak can handle this.
@dandylover1 Right, but the "hundred" shouldn't be spoken in American, Canadian, and several other English dialects. But espeaks American English variant doesn't respect that.

In just an evening I got my CI-built container properly tested, reported some bugs, fixed an issue and got the ESP32 properly linked to the Fruitstand webserver with #esphome.
Been a while since I enjoyed hacking on stuff this much :)
Wouldn't surprise me if the Internal Server Error is me doing something wrong too, not trying to blame Fruitstand. Just, *sighs comfortably*, it's fun learning something new and progressing quickly :)

I'm starting to feel it may be some config issue, like, maybe there is no default config for plugins until you explicitly save. And maybe they're not saving on my side for some reason. I'll debug more later, I'm already glad about the progress of yesterday :)

Given we both seem to really want a non-queerphobic TRMNL alternative, I just figured I'd ping you here to show you Fruitstand running on similar hardware in the hope it might interest you. Managed to make my TRMNL server "Queerminal" to support modules, so it now loops between an RSS feed and my calendar.
Next up I need to make a weather view. Then clean up the code **a lot** and maybe it's ready for more public usage.
I'm not super familiar with how the GitHub wiki thing works - having it easy to access would be great, but it'd be nice if it wasn't tied to GitHub (though that all still lives in the repo, right?)
GitHub wikis do get their own semi-hidden repo (URL visible on the bottom, see github.com/TheLastProject/frui…) but the wiki format is kinda... GitHub-specific. If your goal is to have less vendor lock-in I would personally suggest GitHub Pages instead as you can mostly move that as-in to GitLab Pages or (sadly in maintenance mode) Codeberg Pages. Or build it with a third party tool like Netlify. Of course, you should put that behind an own domain to not be stuck with a github.io domain.
"Mostly" as in, whatever is in the "pages" branch gets published as HTML, so you will have to modify your build scripts for the CI system you switch to. But given the commands will stay the same that would be fairly minimal amounts of work.
Then we get to the level of multiple repositories though, so you may want to move Fruitstand to a GitHub organisation for clarity (though not required).
Could also just put markdown files in the current Fruitstand repo but that is more limiting.
for now the wiki probably makes the most sense (path of least resistance and all that) - better to have documentation at all than to spend way too much time trying to find the "best" solution (I'm not likely to move this off of GitHub soon so I'm just not going to worry about it for the moment)

@jcsteh Me neither. Finding this one was the first time I'd ever run into braille like this. I wish mode selection and other functions were accessible, but this is still a step up from what I'm used to.
I honestly don't understand why it would be so hard to just have braille on mainstream appliances like this more widely. They already have to design and mass manufacture at scale, so it could just be part of the design. I doubt it's a technological or even cost issue, likely more a "don't care enough" issue.
@jcsteh Can the design you're proposing deliver a "DOOR OPEN" prompt uncomfortably loudly in braille though? Not sure I'd know how to get at the food without that.

So I'm relatively young and have basically no music experience at all, but it's kinda frustrating me I don't appear to have a perfect hearing and can't actually hear notes. Like it's just so, so tough for me to figure otu the notes of a song if I'd want to play it in Ableton, for example.
By perfect hearing you mean perfect pitch, or do you mean you can't pinpoint the pitch differences at all?
If it's perfect pitch, many people have to make do without it, commonly one in ten thousand has perfect pitch. Life is certainly easier having it, but with practice you can do more than well enough even professionally. John Williams does not have perfect pitch for example. and, dare I say, he is doing very well in the music industry.
If you mean you are having issues with the pitch differences, that's a bit more tough, but not impossible to overcome either, even if it's via help from people. It's also very likely that with specific training it will improve, especially your relative pitch. Keep at it!
@erion I believe perfect pitch? Basically, the ability to just be able to say what note is being played by simply hearing it and not needing a single try on the keyboard. Well, I hopefully will get there haha.
