The German #BSI has made 2025 the Year of #Email #Security

Great initiative - and great rating for Tuta ❤️ - your secure email provider from Germany. 🇩🇪

Last year, all the residents of my apartment building (most of whom are in their late 70s) were invited to get together and bake pepperkaker (Norwegian gingerbread cookies). Some of them met up, baked and decorated the cookies, or just came by having a toddy and chat for a bit. A box of cookies were then placed in the entrance hall every Sunday during Advent (and all week between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve) for everyone to enjoy. They did the same thing again this year and I just love that something like this is possible.

#verwaltungsdigitalisierung #verwaltung netzpolitik.org/2025/datenatla…

Just reading up on #DeltaChat and it does look interesting as a possible signal alternative. Even deploying your own relay seems easy too. Anybody here using it and has any positive feedback ? I mean share if you've negative too as it'll all be gratefully received by all.

delta.chat/en/

A few things #deltachat apps are doing positively different from #Signal apps

- easiest onboarding ever; not depending on phone numbers or other private data

- support for multiple chat profiles/identities

- decentralized servers, not depending on US-based GAFAM etc.

- migration from one app/platform to any other

- easy multi-device support for any chat profile

- developers have chances to get their PRs merged :)

- mini-apps support via webxdc.org

anything missing?

@anedroid unencrypted email use cases have been discussed in the support forum already and the outcome is: our focus is on end-to-end encryption and metadata minimization, along with helping to grow a world-wide federated reliable chatmail relay network run by many 3rd parties.

Instead of sticking to the old 1.58 delta versions it'd likely be better if you recommended your friends to use another email app that directly focuses on unencrypted mail handling if that is what you are looking for.

this is so cool! I ported to #webxdc TIC-80 #fantasy #computer for making, playing and sharing tiny #games

you can import/export files with add/get commands!

with this you can create #retro games in #lua, #fennel, #python, #ruby, #javascript etc and play/share them with friends as in-chat apps in #DeltaChat / #ArcaneChat

I would like to expose the webxdc API to TIC-80 games so they can do networking/multiplayer and send in-chat messages

Or, if you really wanted to be stupid, there is a 10 meter repeater with links on VHF and UHF. You could tune into that, and I could yell at you from one of the linked repeaters on the system, and you theoretically could yell back at me. Actually that would be a fun thing to try, especially at night, because that system is completely 100% dead then... of course, assuming you can even hit that machine from Don's place at night. Ten is weird like that.

Krásné a dobré ráno druhé neděle adventní mastodonní chásko! 🙋‍♀️🐶🐈
Slunce jsme přivítali, mlha odešla. Pomalu se obracíme k domovu. Lord Archibald začíná větřit. V dálce přes cestu přebíhá stádo daněl. Dvě, třetí, čtvrtá, pátá, šestá se zastavuje u kraje cesty. Lord Archibald vyráží....
🐶: Hej! Hej! Tebe znám! Počkej! Stůj! Ty chodíš k nám! A ty taky! ....
👩: Baldineeeee!!!....Stůj!!!
Archibald hodí stopku. Daněly mizí. Archibald se zhnuseně otáčí.
🐶: Matko! Když lovím, máš bejt zticha!
Běží ke mně.
🐶: Dělej!! Pohni zadkem! Ty neumíš běhat? Ještě je doběhneme!!
👩: Hodný kluk. Ke mně!
🐶: Děláš si prdel?? Dělej! Pojď!! Třeba je ještě chytnem!
👩: Sedni!
🐶: No to mě poser....
Dostává odměnu.
🐶: Lepší než drátem do oka. Ale MATKO! Tebe na lov teda neberu!!
Vy se dneska za ničím nehoňte. Hezky se dívejte kolem sebe a nasávejte klid a pohodu! 😊

Ps: Tak my teda jdeme domů. 😁

So, I'm not sure if this was ever supposed to work, but now it definitely doesn't.

When WatchOS 26 came out, I got per-voice settings on my Apple Watch 10 under settings > accessibility > voiceover > speech, then for each voice. I found this very useful, as I use Eloquence on my watch. By turning down the ultra-lows by a ridiculous degree and decreasing the head size, I could make it sound quite a lot better on the internal speaker.

Well, I was playing with betas, and forgot to turn it off. Tonight, my watch updated to WatchOS 26.2, and now the per-voice settings are gone for all voices.
Weirdly, my custom voice, based on Reed, which I called "Freaky Little Eloquence", is still listed in voices on my phone in the Watch app, but not as English (United States), just English, and it no longer seems to be associated with anything, as I can't add it to the rotor. It's just this orphaned, useless voice that still has all those extra sliders.

So, yeah, that's fun. No more freaky little Eloquence for me, I guess.

@TheVoiceGuy It's a pair of wireless lavs. More accurately, it's a pair of transmitters with built-in mics that come with lavs, or you can use other individual lav mics with it. They have their own built-in 32-bit FP mono recorders that sync to timecode, plus you can send the microphone output to 3.5mm mono or stereo, or to a device with a USB-C port.

Sometimes I just send Mom a message that says "look at the Moon" or "look at the sunset" or just "look at the sky" And sometimes send that kind of message to me. I sent her a message just now "look at the moon" and she said "thank you for telling me" and I said "I will always let you know about the moon." And then I tried to write a poem because I thought that sentence was so nice. I don't think it's a very good poem. But poems take time. Maybe it will become good.
in reply to Heather

Okay well this is it so far. But I will probably change it all tomorrow:

I will always let you know about the moon

Look at the moon
Can you see the moon from where you are?
I’m walking at dusk and I’m feeling lonely
My kid used to like walking with me
I could talk to him about this perfect moon
Its haunted white-gold glow
An illuminated balloon looming over the hills
But he’s too old to go for walks with his mom
So I send you a message that says
Look at the moon

You say thank you for letting me know about the moon
Mom, I will always tell you about the moon
Because maybe some day I’ll go for a walk
And pull my phone out of my pocket
And then I’ll remember
So instead I will have to just whisper
Look at the moon
Can you see the moon where you are?
Will you find a way to let me know about the moon?

And if I’m very lucky
Maybe one day my kid will
Be walking lonely somewhere
And look at the night sky
And think about me
And send me a message

Of all the questionable things about AI, I'm starting to think its biggest crime is simply the staggering amount of resources it has pointlessly drawn away from other, more important work and the way it has corrupted even organisations that were previously doing great work in some misguided, race-to-the-bottom belief that this is actually the most important think for humankind.

First time I’ve hunted to find a native ui framework that’s cross platform, accessible, and doesn’t require learning another language to use.

The solution might be separate interfaces in separate frameworks for separate platforms, for the best accessibility experience, because frankly writing my own cross platform UI framework was not part of the brief.

Yes I know flutter exists, no I don’t want to write a minimal system utility in flutter and dart. This thing has to run on any old hardware.

A look at Phreeli, a privacy-focused phone carrier that lets users sign up with only a ZIP code and uses an encryption system based on "zero-knowledge proofs" (Andy Greenberg/Wired)

When I learn a new technique or skill for the first time do I learn it on a simple project first?

No of course not why would I do that I have to try it on the hardest bloody use case imaginable because that’s the “object” that exists in my head that I feel the need to make manifest so one way or another we’re getting through it.
