i see a lot of people, frustrated with tech, wanting to "go analog" or give up on tech. i totally get it! a lot of tech we use right now sucks. but my 2026 wish/resolution is to put more energy towards figuring out how we can wrest control of tech from a powerful few and find ways to use it for good

My new fridge has a screen, with capacitive buttons that don't even seem to always do the same thing. So no adjusting the fridge for me. Then, more egregiously, I got a water filter jug, and it has a tiny screen in it, for some reason. Presumably because sighted people are incapable of tasting when the filter needs replacing, or god forbid putting a note in their bloody calendar to change the damn thing.

This has triggered an (probably not really) interesting question in my head; do you gather any statistics on the first language that submitters speak / write? i.e Percentage by English speakers, Swedish speakers etc. This was prompted by me wondering how many people are using AI to translate and ending up being very wordy (as opposed to the AI slop problem).
a translation doesn't magically convert a succinct report into a several hundred lines long word salad. This is not the results of translation services.

When you try to fix things with someone that you didn't do anything wrong to but have to apologise anyway because that's what they expect, it tears me the fuck up.

Sometimes I think that I want to talk to people, but then when people come along and say, so what do you wanna talk about, I got nothin'. I think what I mean is, I want a friend I can sit in companionable silence with until an interesting thought crosses one of our minds, and we can take it from there.
I feel this so much I'm the same way. I have no idea how to talk to people lol. I mean if we have common interests it's pretty easy, but if I'm out somewhere and someone approaches me or whatever, it takes me a bit to figure out what to say.
