For a while, I have had to turn off VoiceOver speech on my phone at night, because VoiceOver shouts "100% charged" every few minutes once the battery is full. Since iOs 2026.2, I have to turn VoiceOver off completely, because under yet to be determined conditions, VoiceOver falls into a restart loop, turning on its speech, and reading out loud the screen contents. Apparently it briefly disables screen curtain as well, which doesn't bother me, but very much so my wife. Glad that Apple has such a swift track record in fixing accessibility bugs. /s
OK that's weird. I haven't heard of this or seen it, how are you charging? What phone? I'm running 17 Pro and 26.2 and Kirsten hasn't reported being woken up in the night from the screen. I wonder what's different?
@FreakyFwoof I am charging wirelessly. on a belcin 3 in 1 charger stand. But the restart loop happens also when its just iddle, not connected to anything. For the constant announcement for "100% charged," for a while, I suspected that I had accidentally told VoiceOver to watch the battery charge status cell on status bar, but its not that.
OK I just locked my phone. It's at 100% sitting on Apple Magsafe and it's connected to my mixer via USB-C 3.5MM. It's not saying or doing anything. I'm just trying to see if I can reproduce it.
@FreakyFwoof I can confirmed this happens to me too. I think VO is crashing because on my end, before saying the battery percentage, it says screen curtain on. What phone are you running? I'm on a 15 normal. My partner has a 16 and it doesn't happen to her.
@FreakyFwoof I wonder if it is software. Partner, despite working in the tech sector, refuses to update everything. Wouldn't surprise me if she was still on 26.0.
@FreakyFwoof @ysotomayor I was going to write about this very thing. For me it seems like it happens when getting notifications and sleep mode is active. I did actually recently set up my phone again for other reasons and it hasn't fixed it. I do use the focus sleep option and my next thing was turning that off.
@sapphireangel @FreakyFwoof @ysotomayor Its got so bad for me I turn off VoiceOver when I go to bed. I don't use screen curtain and I don't think the screen gets brighter for me. However whenever I receive a notification I get the name of the app spoken out as well as the battery charge status. I think this is only happening for me during sleep focus times but need to do more testing on that.
It definitely turns out to be so. I sleep with airpod(s) in to reduce noise. I also read a book before sleep. This enables the phone to very effectively disrupt my sleep with its notification soup. @andrew @sapphireangel @FreakyFwoof @ysotomayor
@jscholes @andrew @sapphireangel @ysotomayor Um, in the focus settings, my sleep and DND enable at the same time and none of them have that so-called 'Intelligent Breakthrough' mode switched on. Could it be that? I see no need.

Totally agree. This drives me bananas! I have to turn off speech each night, and you're absolutely right that half the time it just restarts and comes back with speech on and screen courtain off. So infuriating. #a11y

While the first VO crash and restart can sometimes take hours, if I sleepily then reach over, and mute the sleep again, the next restart and sleep comeback happens precisely when I manage to drift back to sleep. To their credit, this aggressive sleep killer works better than the standard 9 minute snooze on iOs alarms, but I prefer to use it by choice.
Don't believe those who loudly claim email can not avoid metadata! They are ignorant of our continuous works on minimizing metadata:
DONE:
- no phone number other identifying data needed - no cleartext "Subject" - no cleartext "To" - randomized "Date" - no IP addresses - group/avatar/attachment/etc metadata only contained in encrypted message parts
Upcoming:
- servers to never see cryptographic ID metadata - remove "threading" and auxilliary headers - experiment with Sealed Sender
I think emails should be remade from scratch. They are too old and have trust in too much stuff. We need a newer and better protocol that still feels like email, but encrypts everything and doesn't allow spoofing.
@SkyLuke This is basically what we do with chatmail.at/ setups. Only encrypted messages are allowed, the clients encrypt everything (Subject, To, Date etc. using rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9788.htm…). Transport encryption using TLS >=1.2 is enforced, clients use TLS 1.3. Spoofing is not possible because of strict DKIM requirement (no legacy mechanisms like SPF, no probabilistic spam filtering).

Yes, but my college email is from Google... Not much I can do... I can use other services for personal use. Also, literally, if a service can just provide semantic search for emails, without generative ai crap, just similarity search in a high dimensional encoding space, and it runs in my computer with a really small open source model, that would be perfect. I know I could do it myself, but it is another side project...
That is just a suggestion for you guys. Do semantic search in a private conscious way. There is no need for expansive crappy text generation on top, just the semantic search and sorting by similarities. My cellphone does this even offline for settings. So it is probably something the client can do just fine.
If the unencrypted Date header is more than a few hours off, it is likely to be blocked as spam. Randomly skewing it by up to 1800 seconds in either direction should be safe. Changing the time zone to grossly mismatch the geoIP is probably unwise, though +0000 is fine.
I suspect you're trying to make your headers super generic with all the important and identifiable aspects (and metadata) in the encrypted body. That's a good move, just be careful about spam filters.

They’re willing to ignore hadiths and surahs saying dogs are friends and guardians, and tales about heavenly rewards for feeding starving dogs, all just because they can’t be fucked to use water and soap.
The Quran actually advised Muslims to consume meat from an animal caught by dogs trained to hunt because it’s meant for consumption. And yet people have gone out of their way to pretend the verse didn’t mention dogs when it specifically does.

Seit ca. fünf Jahren nutzen wir hier u.a. eine Uhr namens "Zeitgeist" (von www.caretec.at). Heute fiel mir auf, dass das Ding eine fehlerhafte Wochentagsberechnungsformel hat: Laut "Zeitgeist" sind wir seit Montag in der KW 53. Das stimmt aber nicht: Da heute (01.01.26) Donnerstag ist, sind wir definitionsgemäß in der KW 1; bin gespannt, ob "Zeitgeist" am Montag einfach in Woche 2 hüpft oder dann eine Woche hinterherläuft.
Wird die KW1 immer so benannt, egal wann der 1. Januar innerhalb dieser Woche ist, oder gibt es da quasi eine Grenze, wenn z.B. der 1. Januar auf einen Samstag oder Sonntag fällt? Weil vergangene Woche ja definitiv keine volle Januar-Woche war, sondern diese Woche die erste volle Januar-Woche ist.

I chose Tuta five years ago as a first step to de-google (not relying on Google services). Tuta also provides a free email, and the apps can be downloaded on F-Droid
chose tuta because of the convenience, the availability of official apps on all desktop platforms even with free subscription. And because of Proton's tendance to mégaloma ( Big tech tendance) they want to be on all aspects of tech that sounds too creepy for me! Do one thing and do it well! Don't try to do everything.
I switched from a t.online adress I had for ages to tuta and upgraded to paid version a few month ago, and there is nothing to regret. Works beautifully and the app is even on FDroid available. No spam anymore, love it!

Nope bist Du nicht, unter anderem deshalb bin ich auch von Podigee zu LetsCast.fm gewechselt und mache das in Auphonic alles wieder selber und vor allem richtig. Außerdem ist es deutlich günstiger, für die Größe, die ich habe und das, was ich brauche. Ich lasse das Podigee jetzt auslaufen und verlängere es nicht.
I’m getting a ton of spam on Mastodon. On the Jabber/XMPP side of things, we are doing a lot behind the scenes to combat it that regular users might not even notice.
I hope the people behind the scenes of Mastodon are working on similar things.

I also received Spam in the Fediverse. From multiple servers, large and small. The topic is important as the Fediverse will scale and complicated because of the implied decentralized nature of it. Hence, I expected a thoughtful discussion and comparison of existing work, work in progress, current research questions and transferrable work between the two protocols.
What did I get: Absolutely thought free, cheap instances of tu quoque and demonstrations of incompetence about the subject being discussed. Do better.
Which brings us to one the most important tools to combat spam in the Fediverse at the moment: The block function.

In die aktuelle Situation sind wir aber auch gekommen, weil man sich als Nutzer keine Gedanken drum gemacht hat. Alles andere wäre wieder Bevormundung des Nutzers - der wiederum wäre verärgert wenn er es nicht versteht.
Gebe aber auch zu dass ich ein viel zu rational denkender Mensch bin und gefühlt viel zu viel Verständnis habe
Aus eigener Erfahrung würde ich sagen, dass ein zu aprupter Wechsel selten von langfristigem Erfolg gekrönt ist...ich denke, wenn einige neue Nutzer hier (zeitweilig parallel) ihre Zelte aufschlagen, sollten wir ihnen einen möglichst warmen Übergang ermöglichen... * es benötigt auch etwas eigene investierte Zeit, dieses Netzwerk besser zu verstehen und diesen "Mehraufwand" können wir nur anteilig mit Usability-Attraktivität wettmachen...

This isn't slop. I worked for those 6 hours.
I was reviewing everything it outputted, updating my AGENTS.md to course correct future work, ensuring the output was idiomatic Zig, writing my own tests on the side to verify its work (while it worked), and more. My work was split across ~40 separate Amp threads (not one mega session, which doesn't work anyways unless you're orchestrating).
I have a ton of experience writing bindings to libraries for various languages, especially Zig. I have never achieved this much coverage in so little time with such high quality (e.g. test coverage). My usual approach is to get bind just-enough of the surface area to do my actual work and move on. This time I thought I'd draw the whole owl, because it's a new world. And I'm very happy with the result.
Anyone with experience writing bindings knows that you do some small surface area, then the rest of the coverage is annoying repetition. That's why I usually stopped. Well, LLMs/agents are really, really good at annoying repetition and pattern matching. So going from 5% API coverage to 95% is... cake.
There is probably some corners that are kind of nasty still, but I've been re-reviewing every line of code manually and there is nothing major. Definitely some areas that can just use a nicer Zig interfaces over the C API, but that's about it.
I plan on writing a longer form blog showcasing my threads, but you can at least see the final AGENTS.md I produced in the linked repo.

Acabadico Babel, de Kuang. Uf, me ha flipado, genuinamente, me parece una maravilla de novela. sí, tiene sus cosas, como que la narradora es demasiado obvia a veces y tiene a explicar demasiado, confiando demasiado poco en el lector.
PERO, aún así, me ha flipado toda la novela de cabo a rabo. En tema, estilo y estructura. En general no leo libros tan largos (aunque ahora van a venir varios tochos seguidos...) y me imponía bastante. Sin embargo, me lo he bebido. Lo comencé el día 1, viajando a casapadres en tren, y me lo he acabado esta tarde.
Me encanta como el conocimiento de un campo muy concreto, la traducción, puede acabar no solo siendo un sistema de magia, sino un sistema de poder y relaciones. Que el propio sistema de magia que plantea sea en sí los vacíos del lenguaje... Mira, me flipa.
También es de los pocos sistemas de magia que he visto que, de verdad, está ahí para reforzar la trama y su mensaje anticolonial.
Me gustó muchísimo también; y la forma en que se sistematiza la traducción como un recurso a utilizar y explotar es muy interesante. Personalmente, también hice una lecutra secundaria que no sé si es porque yo siempre pienso en estas cosas, o porque realmente estaba ahí; pero el tema de la centralización, de como se controlaba la traducción desde un solo centro y así había que renovar la suscripción de vez en cuando, me recordó un montón a todo el tema de la nube y el software como servicio; y el status de los traductores me hizo pensar en la posición de los estratos técnicos (ingenieros, arquitectos...), con privilegios materiales pero explotados y reproduciendo el sistema.
Ayer un señor me ayudó a subir al tren, me buscó asiento, me puso la mano en la cabeza y me dijo "que Dios te bendiga". Y Dios me bendijo. Y ahora no sé qué hacer con la bendición. ¿A alguien más le pasa? ¿Cómo se vive estando bendecido?
