As you can see from my screenshot, I removed that big blue "New Message" button, because I can just use Ctrl+N.

Thank you @thunderbird for retaining just enough customizability for power users while making the UI more appealing to the "touchscreen generation".

Got all gestures wired up in Identity: there's drag-and-drop heavily inspired by Loupe with its beautiful thumbnail (naturally, in Identity it shows playing videos!), there's drag to pan when zoomed in, there's click to "select" a video tile.

I love how easy it is to do drag-and-drop while showing whatever in the thumbnail in #GTK 4 (especially now that sizing and hotspots work ;)). Thanks @sophie and @brainblasted for things I stole from Loupe and @alexm for help with gestures!

Properly jaw-dropping moment this evening: an e-mail from my US publisher saying that "since it's a science book", they'll publish Blue Machine WITH METRIC UNITS. So I don't have to convert everything to foot pounds per square elephant. In YEARS of writing for the US, this is the first time I have ever had a hint that there is a world outside feet and inches. @pixelcode auch zwischendurch ist der Netzwerk-Traffic ziemlich heavy. Da ich selbst kein Nostr nutze kann ich aber wenig dazu sagen, ob das normal ist. Wenn aber einmal pro Minute für mehrere Sekunden der Downstream auf ca. 12-14 MBit/s geht, ist das jeweils mehr als 1-2 MByte.

Wie getippst, das kann ich nicht beurteilen. Aber wenn Du magst, kannst Du es ja gern mal mit Koala's Nostros vergleichen (apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/a…) und berichten 😉 @mondstern

@raph wrote in his xi-editor retrospective (raphlinus.github.io/xi/2020/06…) that asynchrony is a complexity multiplier. I'm really coming to appreciate that while working on an Electron app, with its split between the main process and renderer process. I'm really close to redoing one particular window as a native window in Rust, so I can have fine-grained control over the order of certain actions.

xi-editor retrospective

A bit more than four years ago I started the xi-editor project. Now I have placed it on the back burner (though there is still some activity from the open source community). The original goal was to deliver a very high quality editing experience.
