🇩🇪Europäischer Menschenrechtsgerichtshof verbietet heute generelle Schwächung sicherer Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung, weil sie uns alle schützt. hudoc.echr.coe.int/eng/?i=001-… (Abs. 76 ff.)

Now here is a real problem to ponder about. Apparently, Titok was buzzing about this for a while? :)

This sounds a bit like Vivaldi's "four Seasons" -- sweet and perhaps a bit too defensive! Good points are made in this article though. Still, I would not simplify the issue... O yeah, quite nice description of LLMS! Vivaldi won’t allow a machine to lie to you | Vivaldi Browser vivaldi.com/blog/technology/vi…

I read with interest today this blog post about the advertising policies at The Hacker News:

hakpop.com/blog/thehackernews-…

...which calls attention to the terms offered in their media kit.

thehackernews.com/downloads/TH…

Specifically:

"Write an article, and we'll publish it on our site as organic content, without labeling it as sponsored or contributed content, giving your message the unparalleled organic exposure it deserves."

The price for that starts at $2,500.

And then there's their policy on homepage news feed placement, which states that you can:

"Boost traffic to your desired landing page and generate potential leads by placing your advertisement (and not tagged as sponsored) in one of the top articles on THN's homepage."

As the blog author notes, this practice could be a violation of the FTC's rules on deceptive advertising.

So, with all the talk going around about #Mozilla redirecting folks from #Firefox to focus on #AI, amidst layoffs as well, I'd like to point out that @Vivaldi is not integrating LLMs in the foreseeable future: vivaldi.com/blog/technology/vi…

And, I say this as someone who used and swore by Firefox since it was known as Phoenix. Over the past year, I've gotten to know Vivaldi, and it's now my daily driver.

You are wrong that Vivaldi hasn't integrated AI - it's Lingvanex-powered translation service uses "AI" and is in release: vivaldi.com/features/translate…

It also runs serverside, unlike Mozilla's alternative, and is closed source (just like the browser!).

I hope #accessibility folks here are signed up for Axe-con, Feb 20-22nd. I’m regularly impressed with the high caliber accessibility talks which are available to everyone for free. Deque’s axe is integrated into so many accessibility tools in 2024, and is playing such a critical role in evaluating against many WCAG 2.2 issues.

If you haven’t already, consider signing up:

There are amazing speakers. It’s free and also allows you to view many of the talks afterward.

I got to spend time last year in the 13th arrondissement in Paris. I was really surprised that almost everyone on the street, as in conversations around me, discussions between young people, the language used at shops and restaurants, was not French or Cantonese or Vietnamese, but Teochew: my native language.

Turns out it’s a large Vietnamese and Khmer Teochew stronghold: and Teochew is alive and well. It’s also a bánh mì hotspot:

If you use #Authy for 2-factor authentication, please be aware that since March 19th (I might be off for a couple days though) the desktop apps will be discontinued. So basically they force you to use mobile apps or nothing. I don't know about you, but for me it's totally unacceptable behavior. I tried the desktop app and didn't like it (because it's basically a web version wrapped in an executable), but I know people who use them namely because they have a desktop app. If I were you, I would migrate to something else just because it's not how good business is done.
Support article about it on their website: support.authy.com/hc/articles/… (thanks @twynn for the link!)

Purism Differentiator Series, Part 3: Operating System!

Building an Operating System that avoids Big Tech allowed us to build out a new convergent operating system that could work across all our products that does not spy on the user where we release all the source code so it is peer-reviewable.

· It’s a long shot but consider up-voting the Hacker News post: news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3… (I’m mostly just saying this to point out the absurdity of the situation, that the only possible way to talk to an actual human at Evil Corp is to get enough traction on Hacker News.)

· I’m definitely not trying to solicit donations. I really like how Play Store sales shifted the financing away from "hardcore fans" to regular / more casual users.
