I got myself a new PS5 controller and instead of doing the usual stuff that should be done with these, I decided to find out how to play audio through the enhanced haptic motors instead. Turns out it's not difficult at all, and it works surprisingly well. If you are bored and have nothing to do, I've attached a short recording where I explain my setup and demonstrate how the motors reproduce different types of audio files.
For those just curious about setting this up, you need to route the audio to channels 3 and 4 of the wireless controller's audio device. I also recommend turning off Steam or any other programs that might exclusively use the controller.

What is Friendica
Friendica is a decentralised communications platform, you can use to host your own social media server that integrates with independent social networking platforms (like the Fediverse or Diaspora*) but also some commercial ones like Tumblr and BlueSky.
Ensure that the last backup of your Friendica installation was done recently.
Using Git
Updating from the git repositories should only involve a pull from the Friendica core repository and addons repository, regardless of the branch (stable or develop) you are using. Remember to update the dependencies with composer as well. So, assuming that you are on the stable branch, the commands to update your installation to the 2024.12 release would be cd friendica git pull bin/composer.phar install --no-dev cd addon git pull If you want to use a different branch than the stable one, you need to fetch and checkout the branch before your perform the git pull.
Pulling in the dependencies with composer will show some deprecation warning, we will be working on that in the upcoming release.
Using the Archive Files
Due to unforseen changes in the CI not possible at the moment.
Post Update Tasks
The database update should be applied automatically, but sometimes it gets stuck. If you encounter this, please initiate the DB update manually from the command line by running the script bin/console dbstructure update from the base of your Friendica installation. If the output contains any error message, please let us know using the channels mentioned below.
Please note, that some of the changes to the database structure will take some time to be applied, depending on the size of your Friendica database this update might run for days.
Known Issues
At the time of writing this, none with 2024.12
But the development branch is currently rather unstable and should be used with caution as the development diverged far (for Friendica terms) from the now stable branch. We will let our very valued ALPHA testers when the dev team things that the development branch is stable enough again.
How to Contribute
If you want to contribute to the project, you don’t need to have coding experience. There are a number of tasks listed in the issue tracker with the label “Junior Jobs” we think are good for new contributors. But you are by no means limited to these – if you find a solution to a problem (even a new one) please make a pull request at github or let us know in the development forum.
Contribution to Friendica is also not limited to coding. Any contribution to the documentation, the translation or advertisement materials is welcome or reporting a problem. You don’t need to deal with Git(Hub) or Transifex if you don’t like to. Just get in touch with us and we will get the materials to the appropriate places.

Dort gibt man dann alle notwendigen Parameter ein u. a. auch den ersten User der dann der Admin ist. Ist das bei einer Docker Installation nicht so? Habe auch nur Erfahrung mit einer "echten" Installation.
In der /config/local.config.php steht die eMail-Adresse des Admins. Diese sollte beim Erstaufruf vom Installationsassistenden abgefragt und dort hinterlegt worden sein.
Jeder Account, der mit dieser eMailadresse angelegt wird, ist Admin. Bzw hier kann die Admin-Mailadresse auch verändert werden.

This is mainly a maintenance/bugfix release with no brand new features, just: - chore(l10n): translation updates; - fix(10n): format specifier used in hashtag list; - chore(qa): add more unit tests; - chore: add mentions of new contributors.
I'm setting up the process to be able to distribute the app on Google Play too. If you are willing to help, we need a minimum number of people to participate in the closed testing program for two weeks before releasing to production. To enroll, first join this group with the same email address you are going to use on Google Play, then download the app using this invitation link.
Problem with that is (besides occasional bugfixes), most people including myself would see #curl to be functionally complete and anything "nice to have" would be considered not worth the balooning in #complexity and #size.
I mean, does curlneed to be able to do #BitTorrent (magnet:), #IPFS (ipfs://) or god forbid #blockchain (i.e. #EVM) support?

I consider curl to be "the #vim of downloaders" (tho that's kinda insulting and limiting since curl is more than just a downloader and more intuitive than vim) with wget being "the #vi of downloaders" (tho wget is even simpler to use than vi)...
I have certain paths, which are too long to type, so I need to wrap all those in one script as alias and source that script to my existing package code.

@kkarhan @torproject was curl complete in 2005? Was it complete 2015? Is it complete 2025? Did the Internet and software in general stop developing? Everything keeps moving and changing. New ways, new protocols, new paradigms. We work on making sure that curl remains with the times, providing the best internet transfers with the features users want. So yes, it keeps developing.
@kkarhan @torproject Looks like the changes in the world force curl to adapt, but the nice thing is curl has a stable API and CLI, which means the disruption doesn't propagate further.
No matter how much the world changes, you can still use the latest curl the same way you used an older version of curl. And I think that's valuable.

Only drawback so far, but maybe I miss something. On the sidebar I could filter my podcasts by tags which I use a lot to organize my podcasts. With the bottom navigation tags seems to be completely useless, at least I couldn't find a way to access them. It would be great if tags could be added to the bottom navigation to have easy access to some kind of filtered view of my podcast subscriptions.
@bjoern Thanks for the feedback! We have an open enhancement request to display the tags at the top of the subscriptions screen, so they can easily be accessed. We hope that once that's implemented you'll have a good enough replacement for the tags in the side menu. (No concrete timeline at this point, though.)
By "be accessed" do you mean show a list of podcasts with that tag, or a list of episodes from podcasts with the tag? What I am missing with this workflow is being able to list episodes from all podcasts with a specific tag. Will this cover this use case? Or is something similar planned for the Episodes tab?

@Friesenkiwi Thanks for the feedback! Why wouldn't you want to miss the drawer? Is there anything that you're missing, or did you notice a clear downside? The idea is to – in the long term – drop the side menu. We believe the bottom menu offers a more modern experience and keeping both would mean increased maintenance work.
@Schaarsen Thanks for the feedback! It's expected that the side menu doesn't open, given that the bottom menu is always visible if enabled. But we should probably disable that setting if the bottom menu is active. We'll look into it!
I see how the bottom navigation is great for many podcast listening flows, but I only use the queue and sometimes manage my podcasts. I would love an option to reduce the navigation to a floating button or top bar button, that opens one specific other page (subscriptions).

A lot of people in software misunderstood the copyright years. There’s no need to update all your header files—just have your editor stick in the year when you create a file, and then never touch it again.
I think your approach works as well, but I never understood where the concept of “new year, new commit to update all the copyright statements” came from.
@teotwaki what year would you use if your new file gets content copied from some other files, which is quite common? Not even new files are unproblematic.
I stopped adding copyright headers to my source files a very long time ago, so I have to admit I didn’t think about that.
Back in the day when I did do it, I was lazy and just left the year generated by the editor, even when transplanting code. I fully agree with you that’s it’s a pointless exercise and that life is better without the copyright years.
Unless we think civilization destroys itself by that time, I think it's our responsibility to our descendants to make sure than when our software becomes pubic domain, they will know it, it will be clear to them.

@mirabilos I've heard of some really messy situations where someone died without writing down their will and everything they owned or had rights to was stuck in a limbo and it was a pain to get the court to allow doing anything with it.
I don't know if that'd apply to copyright. Hopefully showing a git log would be enough to convince the court.

Zase na druhou stranu kolik myslíš, že má třeba šikovný topenář v Německu a v ČR? Syn jen elektrikář po vyučení. V práci je tři měsíce a má 30000 měsíčně čistého. V Německu by dostal 1500-1800 euro. Zase už to tak velké rozdíly nejsou. Treba v Mnichově jsou větší platy, ale platíš tam hodně peněz za bydlení. Já ODS stejně volit nebudu, ale pořád lepší než Bureš a aby ministryni financí, dělala ludra co se převléká za hranolku. @OttovonWenkoff

It is with the Lime Aloud suite that I created my first printable scores for choir, bells and other instruments. On December 15, Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church in Hanahan, SC where I currently serve in the music department, presented five of the ten songs from my "Living That Story" Advent/Christmas musical as part of our "Big Music Sunday." It was an honor to collaborate with the choir, children, bell choir, guest oboist and guest cellist to put this presentation together. My best friend, Audrey, wrote the accompanying script and served as the narrator. She, her guide dog Bernie, the children, oboist, cellist and I all gathered with the choir in the chancel area, and it was truly a joy-filled event!
