Hi everyone. I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their best wishes during my recent illness. Particularly Sunday, Monday and Tuesday morning were very grim times. I could barely put one foot in front of the other, I was in constant pain, and the swelling had also spread to my arms which were extremely soar. I could not think about much else. I didn't even want to hear my music. I didn't want L to play music in the flat. People who know me will also know how much I love my music and how unusual that would be. I could also barely eat food.
We have very little in the way of support here, so it is important that my health is especially good and the future did look bleak, particularly as it was suggested to me that the illness may not go away.
With the help of our Assistant, I went to the Doctor yesterday morning. The nurse took different types of blood tests and the Doctor changed the medication completely.
I came home and began taking the new meds. I went to sleep for a while, woke up, and it was like a switch had been flicked and the pain had been turned off. Perhaps not as dramatic as that but I began to feel much more like myself. I am able to walk properly again. Yesterday I could eat properly.
There is still a long way to go obviously. The results of the tests have to come back, and that may mean me going to hospital as an outpatient to see a Specialist. There are still parts of me which are a bit swollen, and I do lose my balance sometimes, but it's a huge improvement. I would hope that if I continue to rest for a good part of this month I can return to how things used to be. But this has been a serious warning to me: slow, down.

Glad you're feeling better, Brian. I know what that's like when you don't want to hear or do anything while sick; I had a similar experience a couple months ago when I got hit with a nasty flu or virus that was going around. Definitely not fun.

But it also aims for Mypy compatibility with zmypy, making it a great potential option for existing projects using Mypy that just want something faster.

I actually do think it's worth pointing out how in a time of overt fascism, white trans people are also becoming more reactionary and facist overall, because that has real ramifications for Black trans people, who already bear the brunt of anti-trans violence.
I'll say that again: by every meaningful metric, Black trans people bear the brunt of transphobic violence. Not white trans people. And white trans people are not organizing en masse in any real way to change this fact.
And to be clear: White trans people are not becoming more reactionary and facist because they're trans, it's because they're white. And in a white supremacist society, white people will always be white first. Race traitors are rare, very rare. Us Black folks remaining real clear on this point is what will help to keep us safe and keep us from fates like that of Sam Nordquist.

it should work if you use LibreELEC + Jellyfin for Kodi for your set-top-box. Just pass through the audio to the sound system. For streaming to other clients like a laptop, phone, etc. it doesn't matter.

I emailed the EU (COMP-DMA@ec.europa.eu) explaining why I think #Google's new anti #sideload measures are problematic.
They responded stating they "welcome feedback from interested parties", noting that the #DMA does allow "strictly necessary and proportionate measures to ensure [3rd party apps/stores] do not endanger the [hardware or OS] or to [allow users to effectively protect security]".
May be worth sending an email explaining your opinion on the necessity and proportionality :)
Apple has been doing the same for over a year now and the EU didn’t bother, even after documented cases of Apple blocking sideloaded apps. Also the EU Commission is proposing to force backdoors/client scanning in messaging apps under which is nice to be able to identify authors of non-compliant apps.
@BucciaBuccia I'm always very disappointed with enforcement but one thing I notice is that everyone is always yelling on social media, but no complaints reach the correct groups.
When I complained about Stocard's GDPR export, one of the arguments they had to not punish Stocard was because this "was the first complaint they received on Stocard" and thus it was "not indicative of purposeful misbehaviour".
It shouldn't be our responsibility to monitor but it still seems worth trying to alert them

I've been using @ecosia for several weeks. Its privacy protection is less strict than DuckDuckGo's, but otherwise, it's a very usable #search engine, on par with #Google (no surprise, since it uses their index). If you keep using Google because you can't get used to other search engines, consider Ecosia. You'll get the same results, and while Google would use the profits from your searches to build more data centers for AI, Ecosia will use them to plant trees.
I second that. @ecosia is not particularly fancy, it lacks some QoL features which e.g. Kagi has, but it works well with no distractions and no pushing of unwanted AI gimmicks down your throat. And they plant trees.

I selected human narrated audio books, but the word "prefer" is a bit misleading for me here. It's the less time-consuming and the most available for me, actually.
I prefer electronic text and tts. Human narrators are slower, less clear, and inject interpretation into the text. For me it's better to have a flat voice that lets the text speak for itself.
@modulux That's understandable for sure. I actually prefer that interpretation to be added. I take the book in better with a slower, more natural voice.

Our lab investigated whether frontier models can write optimized GPU kernels for Apple devices to speed up inference. We found that they can: our AI-generated Metal kernels were 1.87x faster across 215 PyTorch modules.
lol yeah @SlicerDicer wrote his own Metal kernel to do this same thing. I think his performance gains were even higher than this, but I can't remember right now
