I think the Mona people are making the same mistake the voice dream reader folks made, which is announcing the new product/payment system without a FAQ or other documents which outlines the process, how much it will cost, what things are supported, and what will happen to the old app. I'm like Lynn, I paid for Mona Pro, I have no problem paying for an app, i don't want to pay for AI, because I don't use it, I am really happy with Mona, and hope they keep supporting this current app, but frankly, if they stop supporting it, and it becomes obsolete, and my only choice is to buy new Mona and pay again, or switch to Toot which I've already paid for and which is continuing to be supported, I'm not going to pay for Mona again.

Yeah, that. I think Mona was and is well worth my money. But if my choice is to pay again simply because someone wants to shove AI down my throat without anything else useful, or switch to another app, then honestly, I'll likely switch to something else. I'm not going to dump money on something I won't even use. It's not about paying for stuff for me, if something is useful to me, I'll gladly pay for it. What I won't do is drop money on something useless to me, something I've already fairly paid for, or something I outright dislike. I don't need AI in my mastodon app, and if I have to pay to continue using Mona simply because someone decided I need more AI immediately, then I just won't do it. I have better things my money could go to.

Komplete users: I haven't set up Komplete Kontrol from scratch for a long time. I just downloaded every plugin I owned and squished them onto a secondary SSD in this new machine. And now, if I try to add the KK plugin and hit the browser button, I get the "file types" selector, and no results at all after that.
Is there a really basic thing I've forgotten to do? Does Reaper need to be able to see all the plug-ins if I want to actually use them?

I changed a lightbulb today!

And this makes me happy to be living in the future, because I think the last time I did this was 3-4 years ago.

When I was growing up, replacing bulbs was something that we did at least once a week.

When I moved into a shared house as a student, we were replacing at least one bulb a month. Around then, CFL subsidies came in and the cost of a CFL dropped to about the same price as one month's power consumption for an incandescent bulb, so we replaced all of them, and then didn't change a single bulb for the next two years I was in that house. The next house (which I lived in for around 5 years) also used CFLs and they would gradually have lower peak brightness so would get moved around to places that didn't need as much light.

We have LEDs here now, and they don't seem to fade. I think this is the first one to fail in 8 years (we did bring some older CFLs, which gradually died and were replaced). I'll see if this is a pattern (do they all fail after 8ish years, or was this an outlier?).

Hello everyone!

Here's version 0.20.2 of #GoToSocial; it's another bugfix release!

codeberg.org/superseriousbusin…

If you're updating to this version from v0.20.0 or v0.20.1, it's a very easy update with no db migrations.

If you're updating to this version from a version before v0.20.0, please follow the update instructions from v0.20.0, but replace 0.20.0 with 0.20.2 throughout. Be aware that the update to 0.20.x contains some potentially very long migrations. Please do read the notes carefully!

Release highlights:

  • Roll back to using name property instead of summary for alt text (for now anyway), due to compatibility issues with *oma, *key, and Iceshrimp.
  • Stub authorize_interaction to avoid surprising 404 when trying to do a remote interaction.
  • Fix issue that was causing emojis not to download properly.
  • Add optional build tags for reduced binary size.
  • Fix some swagger docs issues.
  • Various other fixes + performance tweaks.
  • Dependency bumps.

Thanks for reading! Have a good week!

We just released our biggest (and most beautiful) update ever. The new version fully embraces Liquid Glass and comes with a ton of enhancements, fixes and meaningful changes.

The update is available now, and it’s so big that we couldn’t fit all the fixes and changes into the App Store’s text field. You can still find the full release notes on our website:

Oh, and it’s really beautiful. Happy release day, everybody!

Do you prefer a CLI over a GUI? With the hcloud CLI you can provision and manage not only Hetzner Cloud resources like servers, volumes, networks, firewalls, load balancers, but also our Storage Boxes, subaccounts and snapshots. It’s script-friendly (JSON output & stable exit codes), supports auto-completion, and ships as a Docker image for CI/CD.

Over the past year, I’ve really gotten into watching PDC Darts tournaments from the UK. The Grand Slam of Darts just wrapped up, and I had a blast watching all the matches this week. Thrilled to see Luke Littler take the title for the second year in a rowβ€”so impressive, especially at just 18. Looking forward to the Players Championship Finals next week and the World Championship next month!

Intuit falls in the β€œnon-predatory” category?

Their whole business model relies on lobbying to prevent the US government from setting up a free alternative to their services

Like most countries in Europe have for instance

Their for-profit β€œtax advice” service is totally parasitic and could disappear in an instant if the IRS just sent everyone the filled out forms They Already Have, like every civilized country

I didn’t ditch Mailchimp last mailing because I was too lazy

Hello #FOSDEM crowd. If you know someone attending 2026 who creates some form of an #openart - under a free license, let them know that there could be a small community gathering for them. Theater producers, visual artists, actors, musicians, painters, photographers and more and more are welcomed.

I genuinely love software, when it works. I've just configured some stuff in order to scrobble music I listen to basically everywhere, Windows Browser, Windows Foobar, any app on Android, and Spotify to last.fm again.

Also will use some cli programs to transfer my Spotify playlists over to Tidal to then download that music in best quality flac. It's monday but I finally feel a bit competent and productive again.

Excited to announce #IzzyOnDroid will be at #FOSDEM! Our stand request got approved! fosdem.org/2026/news/2025-11-1…

We'll be sharing a stand with @shiftphones and @BlissLabs, showing just what a great experience our little corner of #Android can be.

Repairable devices, a FOSS #AOSP ROM and an "app store" (or repository if you prefer) for all the privacy and user respecting apps you could want to run on it :)

Of course the teamwork doesn't end there, we'll love to tell you more at the stand :)
