I think #Signal seems to be a really good app. Both from UX perspective and privacy (as far I've heard from others).

But it's still US software hq:ed in Mountain View California (with Alphabet, Google, LinkedIn), so switching to it does nothing (0) towards European digital independence. It doesn't help promote the emergence of strong European alternatives to US tech. It actually does the opposite when the European alternatives miss out on an influx of new users.

#DeltaChat, it is decentralized, doesn't require phone numbers or any private data, onboarding is smooth much easier than in signal, similar UI (it is a signal fork) it has much better multi-device and multi-profile support, secure in-chat mini-apps like notepads, to-do lists, shopping lists, etc

there are alternatives, but they will not gain momentum if you don't promote them and stop misinforming people selling a centralized silo running on amazon as sovereign

Google is now marking EVERY SINGLE APK at our repository as "Malware site issue". Congrats, "Safe" browsing.

Of course there is not a single malware there, everything is scanned multiple times. And I bet they excluded *.google.com from their scan or the entire PlayStore would be red by now, too…

Poslanci Európskeho parlamentu vo štvrtkovom hlasovaní zamietli návrh na vyslovenie nedôvery Európskej komisii.
Návrh, ktorý predložila skupina Patriots for Europe, bol zamietnutý. Hlasovaniu predchádzala plenárna rozprava s komisárom Marošom Šefčovičom v pondelok 19. januára.

Politická skupina Patrioti za Európu predložila návrh na vyslovenie nedôvery Komisii, čím spochybnila obchodnú dohodu medzi EÚ a Mercosurom, ktorú členské štáty schválili 9. januára a podpísali 17. januára v Paraguaji.

Podľa rokovacieho poriadku Parlamentu môže návrh na vyslovenie nedôvery Komisii predložiť predsedovi jedna desatina všetkých členov Parlamentu, teda v súčasnosti 72 poslancov Európskeho parlamentu. Hlasovanie sa musí uskutočniť menovite a na prijatie je potrebná dvojtretinová väčšina odovzdaných hlasov, ktorá predstavuje väčšinu všetkých členov Parlamentu.

The only relevant feature for any instant messaging app (or social app, for that matter) is: Are my friends using it? People will gladly overlook minor inconsistencies or missing features as long as they can communicate with their friends. We shouldn’t recommend #Signal as a stepping stone before Jabber/XMPP becomes "good enough," if goodness is defined by the number of people using it.

Nunca me gustó llevar gafas. Y menos las gafas oscuras que me identifican como ciego ante toda la sociedad. Porque claro, si eres ciego tienes que llevar gafas oscuras, porque si no llevas gafas oscuras junto a tu bastón blanco no eres ciego, ya sabéis. The Jamulus devs are trying to make the server list accessible. I am not sure about the latest workflow proposed in the latest comment. If you have thoughts, please chime in.
IMHO, the best solution is to make it behave like the list view in the Finder, where you can navigate across columns and also expand and collapse folders. That said, they are having hard time make it work.

@Scott QT accessibility is a mess, especially on Mac. There was a brief moment when they actually got the tree/table widgets speaking well, only to break it in a later QT release. Sadly you're probably not going to be able to make it so that the VoiceOver cursor can navigate inside it until QT fixes it. In TeamTalk the way they solved this is having a checkbox in the preferences to speak the selected item in lists using text to speech, and then you just treat it more like a windows app by tabbing and using the arrow keys instead of the VO cursor. QT now also includes an accessibility announcement API that speaks through screen readers directly if one is running, so what they could do is label each item with the text of all cells, and if the program is running on Mac, use the announcement API to speak it when the focus moves in the tree which is not needed on Windows because screen readers will pick it up fine there. And you will want to label the items with the text from all cells and not just the first one so that the screen reader will automatically read all columns and not just the first one. TeamTalk does this as well, IE for the files section which is a finder/explorer like view.

Let’s return now to Israel’s recent invasion of Unrwa’s headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem: a gross breach of international law and a direct attack on the United Nations.

Article 6 of the UN charter establishes that any state that persistently violates its principles can be expelled from the UN. The attack on Unrwa is part of a pattern of Israel’s criminal hostility towards the UN, including its refusal to respect orders from the International Court of Justice on Gaza, its slaughter of UN aid workers and its regular attacks on UN positions in southern Lebanon.

The case for expelling - or at the very least suspending - Israel from the UN is overwhelming. Yet neither Carney’s Canada nor Starmer’s Britain, nor any other western power, has so much as suggested the idea.

In his Davos speech, Carney set out Canada’s approach as follows: “We aim to be principled and pragmatic. Principled in our commitment to fundamental values: sovereignty and territorial integrity, the prohibition of the use of force except when consistent with the UN Charter, respect for human rights. Pragmatic in recognising that progress is often incremental, that interests diverge, that not every partner shares our values.”

This is all well and good. But on the evidence so far, Carney is prepared to be principled when it comes to western countries like Canada and Denmark, and pragmatic when it comes to Palestine and Venezuela.

This is a fundamentally racist equation."

Ich muss sagen, ich bin tief verstört davon, dass hier Videos von einem Mord angeschaut oder geteilt werden. Teilweise sogar ohne CW. Ganz ehrlich, justiert mal euren Kompass. Dass die USA Menschenrechte mit Füßen treten ist kein Grund sowas zu verbreiten. Wenn ich hier lese (gestern), dass es jemand noch nicht geschafft hat, das zu sehen, dann kommt hier doch ein Druck auf, der impliziert: Wenn du es dir nicht detailliert anschaust, dann schaust du weg.

No longer getting any attention from his Greenland invasion fantasies, Trump now threatens 100 percent tariffs on all Canadian goods, because Mark Carney is negotiating a trade deal with China, like every other country on the planet does regularly, including the US.

I hope we will reach a point where the free world agrees, that a Trump tariff attack on one nation is a Trump tariff attack on all. Let him feel the consequences of his isolationist, America first agenda.
