Top 5 #accessibility improvements in #GNOME Calendar 49:
1. Focus indicators were added in various places
2. Events are focusable with a keyboard
3. Year/month spin buttons are navigable with arrow keys
4. Calendar grids are skippable with Tab, and cells are wrapped via keyboard focus
5. Calendar list box now behaves like a check box
For screen readers: events and year/month spin buttons have proper semantics!

The UI needs a bit of polishing, but it seems usable. And I like that it uses the Trasitous api as I like that the project exists.
Btw on #Gnome there is also app #Railway, also using Trasitous. So I consider public transport usecase covered on #MobileLinux.
What happened to Pubtran? I know it belongs to Seznam.cz, but it seems working.
After my talk at @gnome Asia Summit, I’ve published the source code of Jollpi, a Python-based text editor I’m rewriting with a modern stack.
Built with Python 3, @GTK 4 and GtkSourceView 5, using a modern async architecture and standard Python packaging (pyproject.toml, pip).
It installs cleanly and integrates like a regular Linux desktop app.
Feel free to try it and share feedback.

Hey, I've been under distress lately due to personal circumstances that are outside my control. I can't find a permanent job that allows me to function, I'm not eligible for government benefits, my grant proposals got rejected, paid internships are quite difficult to find. Essentially, I have no stable monthly income that allows me to sustain myself.
Nowadays, I work mostly on accessibility throughout GNOME as a volunteer, improving the experience of people with disabilities. I helped make the majority of GNOME Calendar accessible with a keyboard and screen reader — still an ongoing effort with !564 and !598 —which is an effort no company ever contributed financially. These merge requests take thousands (literally) of hours to research, develop, and test, which would have been enough to sustain myself for a couple of years if I had been working under a salary.
I would really appreciate any kinds of donations, especially ones that happen periodically to bump my monthly income.
These donations will allow me to sustain myself while allowing me to continue working on accessibility throughout GNOME, potentially even 'crowdfunding' development without doing it on the behalf of the Foundation.
I accept donations through the following platforms:
- “TheEvilSkeleton” on Liberapay: liberapay.com/TheEvilSkeleton/… (free and open-source platform)
- “TheEvilSkeleton” on Ko-fi: ko-fi.com/theevilskeleton
- “TheEvilSkeleton” on GitHub Sponsors: github.com/sponsors/TheEvilSke…
Boosts welcome and appreciated.

GNOME Calendar: A New Era of Accessibility Achieved in 90 Days

Are there any good video players for Linux for TV shows? The user experience I'm seeking is:
- I select a folder to play
- I start watching
- I close the app
- Sometime later, I reopen the app and it loads the playlist I was watching, at roughly the same position
In essence, I want the Netflix viewing experience except with the media I already have.
Please don't recommend hacks. I'm looking for sane defaults. I prefer an app that targets #GNOME but, really, anything will do.
One week after we kicked off our year-end fundraiser, we’ve reached 800 #FriendsOfGNOME!
Our goal is a bit more ambitious, though: 1,500 by December 31. Help us out by joining today: donate.gnome.org
If you’ve already joined or are unable to right now, you can still help by sharing this post with friends and colleagues: blogs.gnome.org/foundation/202…

Really, this is just to make it official, because as I see it, GNOME has been a friend of mine for a long time already 😜

This year brought great improvements to #accessibility in GNOME, including:
• Accessibility from the start on the login screen
• Full accessibility of GNOME Web
• Tons of improvements to Calendar
• Screen reader integration for Notifications
• Configure #Orca screen reader from Settings
• GTK apps integrated w/Windows & macOS accessibility
Help us reach 1,500 #FriendsOfGNOME so we can focus on accessibility even more in 2026!

RE: floss.social/@gnome/1156624308…
I've finally put my money where my mouth is and joined the other #FriendsOfGNOME.
I've been using #GNOME since the #HelixCode/#Ximian days shortly after 1.0 and while I have certainly tried other DEs over time, GNOME remains my go-to desktop project after all of these years. It just vibes with how my brain works and what it likes. It is one of my FLOSS rocks.
The consistency, attention to details, and un-overwhelming/non-stim-triggering design has been a comfort to me all of these years later.
I'm finally, 26ish years on, finally in a place that I can actively, and responsibly, support incredible projects like GNOME.
Supporting the GNOME Foundation directly enables us to take on more initiatives like this, paying community members to deliver impactful work. Help us reach 1,500 #FriendsOfGNOME before the end of the year by donating today: donate.gnome.org
What features or initiatives would YOU like to see the GNOME Foundation take on in the coming year?
This year we delivered new Digital Wellbeing features for GNOME including Screen Time history and limits, break reminders for movement and eye health, and improved parental controls with Screen Time integration.
This work was coordinated by the GNOME Foundation thanks to a grant from Endless, and implemented by valued community developers @pwithnall and @ignapk with support from design team member @snwh.

It feels human.
This can't be overstated, most modern software feels like it's built for corporate interests, not the humans which use it.
Microsoft, Apple, they all do it. #GNOME feels different, in the very best sort of way.
RE: floss.social/@gnome/1156504884…
Tak jsem se také přidal. Zrušil jsem předplatné dvou streamovacích služeb, které stejně skoro vůbec nevyužívám, a místo toho jsem se skamarádil s GNOME.
Contrary to what many people think, I could adapt #GNOME48 to my particular needs and blogged about my customizations: karl-voit.at/Gnome-Setup/
gsettings is great to reproduce the setup on other machines. 👍
#GNOME shines on simple setups but seems to have some issues when the setup gets a bit more complex.
Furthermore, speed was an issue at my side: I was a heavy user of invoking the GNOME shell for starting applications and switch windows but unfortunately that was a bit of a drag to be honest.
Visually, the GNOME UI is great.
RE: floss.social/@gnome/1156504884…
#Gnome is one of many open source projects I am regularly donating to. I use it every day on laptops at home, on laptop at work and hopefully one day on my daily driven phone. Do you also like it? Donate few dollars too. Be #FriendsOfGnome.
The scalable and weight adjustable icon set for GNOME matches the number of awesome Friends of GNOME. Who is going to get ahead?
