💣 Q-Day: Why Current Cryptography Is Not Ready for a Quantum Adversary

The evolution of quantum computing poses a direct threat to the cryptographic algorithms most widely used today. Schemes such as RSA and Diffie-Hellman, which form the backbone of modern communications security, were not designed to withstand adversaries equipped with sufficiently advanced quantum capabilities. To address this scenario, two distinct approaches are em…

IMHO (In My Humble Opinion): It shouldn't be "Getting of US-Tech", it should be "Getting of proprietary tech".

Open Source and Free software, open standards, supported by local experts that are part of the global community — that's the way to #DigitalSovereignty. Many have already chosen that path, so the current push is more of an accelerator, a catalyst, not a radical change. The difference between Revolution and Evolution is just one single letter :)

this is modern life, where you have to wrestle with everything that's yours to keep it doing what you want, not what someone else wants. Add to that list I don't want to be forced to update if I don't want to. I don't want to claw through obscure webpages and advice that I barely understand to turn off the features you're forcing on me that I never asked for. It's all so tiring!

"Does #Kent have to take all the under-18s that cross the channel and put them up at their own cost - yes, " said Mr #Farage

in fact ....

Kent County Council (#KCC) receives extra funding from the central government for housing and caring for under-18 unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASCs). This includes specific grants to cover the cost of reception centres and care services, with recent, targeted injections of around £9.8 million to increase capacity.

I think it's very telling that of the top three reasons given by users of A.I. for why they use A.I. to make art — it's faster, it's cheaper, and it lets me do alone what used to require a team of people — literally none of them have anything to do with actually making better art. And that's coming straight from the people who actually use it.

So far, the pitch for A.I. generative art appears to be, "Use our product! You can make cheap shitty knockoffs in half the time with more loneliness!"

FIFA President Infantino has supported Russia’s return to international football. Ukrainian FM Andrii Sybiha responded that 679 Ukrainian children will never play football because Russia killed them.

Russia was banned after its invasion, but reintegration efforts are underway.

Ukrainian political commentator Borislav Bereza urged UAF President & FIFA Council member Andrii Shevchenko to bring wounded athletes and families of killed footballers to FIFA, warning that passivity is unacceptable.

hmm, maybe the SAPI engine needs some love too now. Not sure. that might happen this evening for me. I bet people might still use it, and as much as I can't release with the GPLV2 and GPLV3 clash, it's good to keep it current in case my dream of a neural-network powered G2P layer comes true.

So geht's:

Hi everyone, I'm on a project, and I've got some queries about #ScreenReaders and symbols. This will also be helpful for me in general.

1. When using a screen reader to read something like this:
... two white spheres (hydrogen) ...
will it read 'two white spheres open bracket hydrogen close bracket?

2. When reading H2O (with the 2 as subscript), will it read H subscript 2 O?

3. Finally, with δ (which I think is delta), accompanied by a superscript plus after it, will it simply read delta superscript plus sign?

Thank you!

That highly depends on user's particular settings. For instance, I'm a developer and I use very fast, but very robotic TTS with poor intonation, it suits my pace and habits. So for me, yes, it would read everything. Not sure about the subscripts though, probably not. but what you can do is to spend more time and process this by some tool that would interpret LaTex and output MathML or MathJax. That way at least some screen readers would interpret it as mathematical notation. #Accessibility

Last I checked, super/sub-script support was kinda crap. At least under default settings, settings with some modifications, and default voices.

What CSS you use can also impact it.

I filed three bugs in 2022 and they are still open.

Was anyone aware that OBS now offers "Enhanced Broadcasting" aka Multritrack Video? This offloads video transcoding to the person that is streaming their content and off of the servers themselves.

This is the single biggest cost of hosting a livestreaming server. If users are willing to use what's in their system we can make the bar to entry incredibly low.

"'’Backwards’ was my first thought,' said Cathy Holtslander, director of research and policy at the National Farmers Union (NFU), after learning about the email. 'Obviously, they made these cuts without knowing what they were doing — which is a big problem — and also [the cuts] suggest they don't really even understand how a research institution works.'

The research farms at Indian Head, Scott, and Nappan were established soon after Confederation and hold more than a century of records and data. Protecting such sites allows researchers to build 'irreplaceable' long-term datasets, which are particularly important to adapting to the climate crisis, Holtslander said."

I agree with the recommendation there and am working on making Delta Chat @delta that kind of backup channel for me and mine.

In cmd.exe with NVDA, if a line is too long, NVDA can't properly review it. For instance, I just typed:

glab mr create -s=staging -b=master -t="a title that's kind of long, but really not that long (issue 1234)"

When I up arrowed and tried to edit, NVDA read spaces for some characters, and for the rest, it read characters from elsewhere in the line instead of the characters I was actually on. Is this a known problem? CC @NVAccess
