Letošní #solarbike #solarpunk experiment sice začal zatím nejefektivnější solární nástavbou z hlediska jízdních vlastností a hmotnosti, ale taky zkratem step-up modulu... protože plastová krabička, do které jsme s kolegou dali druhý modul pro step-down na napětí USB, byla ve skutečnosti pokovená a tudíž vodivá - což nás mělo napadnout...

👉 Nainstalujte aplikaci ntfy z Google Play
👉 Otevřete nastavení aplikace a nastavte svého poskytovatele UnifiedPush (server ntfy) jako výchozí server. náš je ntfy.arch-linux.cz

Nyní budou fungovat v aplikaci Tusky push oznámení.

while i'm sad to see #reddit circling the toilet, it only reminded me of how urgent it is that we finally ditch centralized social media. reddit itself isn't the problem - it's a symptom of a much more generalized problem we've had since FB became a thing in the late 00's.

i've spent the past week re-purposing, patching, porting, and expanding a great piece of software based on the same #nntp protocol that #usenet uses, for creating discussion groups. i'm calling it "tomo" (友 - 'friend') bbs.

some time soon folks can spin up their own tomo shards, create discussion groups in a similar manner to reddit, decide whether they want to keep the group restricted to their shard, or share the group with other tomo shards in a public network of discussion groups called tomonet. completely decentralized private or public discussions without supercorporation bs.

best of all, since it is based on plain 'ol usenet-like nntp, you can read and post to discussion groups from a 1977 VAX mainframe, a 1984 IBM PCjr at 2400 baud, an Apple Newton, or a brand new phone.

i can't wait to bust out forté free agent for windows 3.11 and get posting this weekend. 😎

Getting Started with EQ (a free #tutorial from REAPER Made Easy)
Scott and Jen are here to help demystify EQ (equalization). This session starts from ground zero, explains what EQ is, when you might want to use it, and spends plenty of time demonstrating practical ways you can do that in musical contexts.

Remember that you can use the "Advanced Web Interface", accessible from your Mastodon account settings, for a TweetDeck-like interface on desktop!

This makes it way easier to see stuff at a glance. If it isn't your thing though, you don't need to use it.

Also note that you can adjust which columns are pinned, so if your local and federated timelines move too quickly, you can just unpin them to only see Home and Notifs, or only open them up manually when you want to see them!

Boost this so people can be made aware!

Alright! While I'm doing self promotion.

I wrote a book?

communitymedia.network

It's a history of independent video, and a guidebook for making a new kind of television. It is heavily inspired by the texts Guerrilla Television, Computer Lib/Dream Machines, The Whole Earth Catalog, and Jamming the Media (but exists in dialog with my perception of the shortcomings of those works)

You can buy a copy, or you can read the whole thing online.

This is hilarious. It appears that Twitter is DDOSing itself.

The Twitter home feed's been down for most of this morning. Even though nothing loads, the Twitter website never stops trying and trying.

In the first video, notice the error message that I'm being rate limited. Then notice the jiggling scrollbar on the right.

The second video shows why it's jiggling. Twitter is firing off about 10 requests a second to itself to try and fetch content that never arrives because Elon's latest genius innovation is to block people from being able to read Twitter without logging in.

This likely created some hellish conditions that the engineers never envisioned and so we get this comedy of errors resulting in the most epic of self-owns, the self-DDOS.

Unbelievable. It's amateur hour.

in reply to Sheldon

Lest anyone doubt that Twitter was idiotic enough to release code that would cause a race condition and result in its own users executing a DDOS attack on it, here's the network console readout from Firefox showing all the network requests blasting away.

Of course I immediately closed out my connection because I'm a good person. Oh, but it's the weekend and Evil Sheldon is in control so I kept the party going for a while since Twitter insisted on it.

Nobody should be using GPT detectors for anything important.

From a recent study that found that GPT detectors were misclassifying writing by non-native English speakers as AI-generated 48-76% of the time (!!!), compared to 0%-12% for native speakers.

At a meeting in Germany that attracts dozens of Nobel prize winners, one of them objected to its focus on diversity, saying “as a male scientist, I have a feeling of discrimination when I am here, in the climate that this meeting is being held.” Science magazine reports that a visibly nervous early-career researcher stood up to respond….

"According to the r/blind team, #Reddit invited the moderators to test the #accessibility improvements a few hours before they were announced.

"What they're asking [us] to do is essentially something that you would contract someone to do this work," Carver said. "It's not the community's responsibility to make things accessible. It's not a well-intentioned developer's responsibility to do that. That is Reddit's responsibility.""
