How many #browser #tabs do you have usually open?

Stupid #poll cannot have more than 4 options, so extremities are welcome in comments.

  • 1-10 (66%, 4 votes)
  • 11-49 (16%, 1 vote)
  • 50-199 (16%, 1 vote)
  • 200+ (0%, 0 votes)
6 voters. Poll end: 1 month ago

By popular demand, we made Vivaldi available on #FlatHub. Are you using #Flatpak? Have you downloaded @Vivaldi yet? Did you tell your friends?😀

Remember that you can use the "Advanced Web Interface", accessible from your Mastodon account settings, for a TweetDeck-like interface on desktop!

This makes it way easier to see stuff at a glance. If it isn't your thing though, you don't need to use it.

Also note that you can adjust which columns are pinned, so if your local and federated timelines move too quickly, you can just unpin them to only see Home and Notifs, or only open them up manually when you want to see them!

Boost this so people can be made aware!

Mozilla: "In a well-intentioned yet dangerous move to fight online fraud, France is on the verge of forcing browsers to create a dystopian technical capability. It would force browser providers to create the means to mandatorily block websites present on a government provided list. Such a move will overturn decades of established content moderation norms and provide a playbook for authoritarian governments"

#Mozilla has done some great things with #Firefox over the years, but Total Cookie Protection (essentially isolated cookie jars) is one of the most robust and privacy-conscious ways of handling cookies that I've seen in any browser today. It's a natural evolution of the "container tab" concept that prevents third parties from easily tracking you across the web.

So, my first #
# # poll has ended. the results are here: https://mastodon.social/@Unatributed/108450137107624580

Unfortunately not a lot of respondents, but the ~60/40 split was enough to get me to install vivaldi.

Unfortuantely I won't be sticking with it. Why? My main reason for installing it was the new mail client, which reminded me of the old # and # browsers. Alas, the mail client doesn't work the way I need it to, and there are lots of forum posts about problems with it...

What would Firefox be if it was private by default?

It would be LibreWolf.

MoeNavigator development can continue after I finally found the source of the memory leaks in the browser engine. They were caused by an abstract class that didn't have a virtual destructor, causing undefined behavior. With that big problem out of the way, version 0.0.1 of the engine may soon be released, followed by version 0.1 of MoeNavigator. There are only a few tasks left before the release:

Linux life hack: say you have a page open in Firefox on your Linux machine and you want to view it on your phone (and you don’t have some fancy integration between the two)…

Instead of typing in the URL, get the FxQRL extension that shows you a QR code of the current tab’s URL and aim your phone’s camera at it.

Boom! :)
