There are lots of interesting group accounts you can follow on here, they work like this:

1. Follow the account to see discussion of the topic
2. @ the account if you want to post to the group
3. The account boosts anything @-ed to it, be careful when you @ them so that you don't spam the group (spammers tend to be reported and blocked)

Welcome Pontakorn Prasertsuk as #curl committer 1167: github.com/curl/curl/pull/1142…

Intel just announced they’re discontinuing their range of small NUC mini PC’s. I personally never cared much for them but I know a lot of blind people love them so figured the news is worth signal boosting. theverge.com/2023/7/11/2379095…

If you don’t have a #CCCamp23 ticket yet and still want one: There will be a final preorder round starting Tuesday (“today”) 20:00 CEST!

Also, there will be additional @flow3rbadges available. If you already have a ticket, you’ll receive an email with a voucher code to buy one of these tomorrow.

Camper tickets for RVs & vans are still sold out though.

The shop will stay open indefinitely, until all tickets are sold (or the camp starts).

Is today #PrimeDay at a certain billionaire's online retail store—the one that acts as if it was modeled after the evil corporations in Science Fiction dystopias?

Well, it's also a sales day at Bookshop.org, which is a website that was created to help independent booksellers resist in the USA and UK.

Both today and tomorrow, July 12, Bookshop.org is offering free shipping on orders of physical books. Additionally, a free tote bag will be provided for purchases above $100. This seems to apply to purchases of CDs and pre-recorded players, as well.

To shop, choose your favorite online #Bookshop seller or the general site (linked below) so that a portion of sales is split up among independent stores.

We're excited to announce the our investment in @ProssimoISRG, an Internet Security Research Group initiative, to move critical and vulnerable digital infrastructure to memory-safe code and encourage people to prioritize memory safety.

Our support focuses on building Rustls as a more memory-safe alternative to the widely-used TLS library OpenSSL; developing rav1d, a memory-safe AV1 video and image decoder; and creating Trust-DNS, a memory-safe DNS resolver.

Say hello to the team at The Document Foundation! They coordinate the @libreoffice project – but of course, hundreds of people in the community help to improve the software, every day 😊 blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #foss #opensource

Be ungovernable, like birds who make nests OUT OF ANTI-BIRD SPIKES. A new study describes resourceful Dutch & Belgian corvids besting evil architecture by stealing metal anti-bird strips and using them like thorny twigs, to construct their homes.

Like thorns, the spikes may protect their nests from predators.

Lead author Auke-Florian Hiemstra wrote an epic 🧵 about his research that's worth a read: twitter.com/AukeFlorian/status…

A good question indeed

I largely support Ukraine and its defense against the Russian invasion, but not at the cost of collaborating with neo-nazis or in the use of cluster weapons.

Even war must have limits.

PS, a fun fact I missed: the "Dinosaur QR Code Trail" in Aberdeen, on the piping championship. Did you know the F-Droid in-person-meeting was not the only mega-event that week in Aberdeen? Licaon and I were at the "European Pipe Band Championships", listening to more than 100 bands (1.5k bagpipers) playing at once in the finale. What a sound! Much better than QRs 🤣 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 aberdeencity.gov.uk/news/sound… (my own report coming soon if you want it).

AI is supposed to make our lives better. This, however, will not work for emails.

That's why Tutanota will not integrate AI functions in its secure email clients.

Instead we focus on the important part: keeping your private data encrypted.

Since I'm seeing a new wave of people saying they plan to leave Twitter, you may like my browser tool that takes the zip file of your Twitter export and returns a zip file of a web site that lets people browse and search your tweets. You can just upload the files wherever you normally host html and it'll work just fine.

The fact is, we've all come to hate these websites, that monitor us, and flood us with bad news and bad takes, that harass and abuse us, that sell us things. It didn't have to be like this, and it doesn't have to be like this. I believe in the internet, a place for people who want to communicate with each other. That has been and will continue to be my goal with my time on the computer. I believe @Are0h 's ability to give us the tools to make that experience pleasant, interesting, intuitive, and free. Please consider supporting his work here, as I have: gofund.me/1d4a9ec3
@Ro

One of the core principles of Disability Justice, which shows up in a big way in #DisabilityDrivenDevelopment, is organizing community efforts across various experiences.

Solidarity is power.

I've been excited by what @Are0h is doing for quite a while now, both on a personal level, and as a project that very much aligns with what SpoonStack is all about.

Ro has our full support, and if you're at all interested in what the internet really could be, he could use yours, too: gofundme.com/f/a-new-way-to-so…
