Amazing work once again from Apple's #Accessibility team! I'm particularly stoked about Music Haptics where "the Taptic Engine in iPhone plays taps, textures, and refined vibrations to the audio of the music" - SO cool and important to bring music to everyone!

This popped up on my Youtube yesterday, and I found it interesting, not because I didn't know the stuff, but because it implies that there are people who don't realise you can sew with such a basic kit. I see it at #RepairCafe, when people assume I'll be using a sewing machine, and are amazed that I do all my repairs by hand.

Like, we've been sewing for thousands of years, and had machines for just under a couple of hundred.

When I discovered that Guterman cotton reels have a removable end, for storing needles, I made this minimal sewing kit. The cutter in the third picture is made from a piece of snap-off craft knife blade, taped to a bit of card with a notch in one end, so that only a little of the blade is exposed. It all fits inside the reel, and I glued a little felt pincushion on top!

Question to the lovely #opensource crowd.

I'm using #inkscape and needing to limit my colors for screenprinting. Is there any #libre #openSource software that takes an svg design and does something akin to the Newsprint plugin in #gimp to prep for screenprinting with 4 colors? docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/plug-in-…

Ideally preserving the SVG format?

Absent that, what's my best process here?

"After taking office and examining hundreds of pages of curriculum, Gore was shocked by what she found — and didn’t find. The pervasive indoctrination she had railed against simply did not exist.

Children were not being sexualized. She could find no examples of critical race theory. She examined curriculum related to social-emotional learning, which has come under attack by Christian conservatives who say it encourages children to question gender roles and prioritizes feelings over biblical teachings. Instead, Gore found the materials taught children how to be a good friend and a good human."

Infrastructure used to maintain and distribute the Linux operating system kernel was infected for two years, starting in 2009, by sophisticated malware that managed to get a hold of one of the developers’ most closely guarded resources: the /etc/shadow files that stored encrypted password data for more than 550 system users, researchers said Tuesday.

The unknown attackers behind the compromise infected at least four servers inside kernel.org, the Internet domain underpinning the sprawling Linux development and distribution network, the researchers from security firm ESET said. After obtaining the cryptographic hashes for 551 user accounts on the network, the attackers were able to convert half into plaintext passwords, likely through password-cracking techniques and the use of an advanced credential-stealing feature built into the malware. From there, the attackers used the servers to send spam and carry out other nefarious activities. The four servers were likely infected and disinfected at different times, with the last two being remediated at some point in 2011.

An infection of kernel.org came to light in 2011, when kernel maintainers revealed that 448 accounts had been compromised after attackers had somehow managed to gain unfettered, or “root,” system access to servers connected to the domain. Maintainers reneged on a promise to provide an autopsy of the hack, a decision that has limited the public’s understanding of the incident.

In 2014, ESET researchers said the 2011 attack likely infected kernel.org servers with a second piece of malware they called Ebury. The malware, the firm said, came in the form of a malicious code library that, when installed, created a backdoor in OpenSSH that provided the attackers with a remote root shell on infected hosts with no valid password required. In a little less than 22 months, starting in August 2011, Ebury spread to 25,000 servers. Besides the four belonging to the Linux Kernel Organization, the infection also touched one or more servers inside hosting facilities and an unnamed domain registrar and web hosting provider.

A 47-page report summarizing Ebury's 15-year history said that the infection hitting the kernel.org network began in 2009, two years earlier than the domain was previously thought to have been compromised. The report said that since 2009, the OpenSSH-dwelling malware has infected more than 400,000 servers, all running Linux except for about 400 FreeBSD servers, a dozen OpenBSD and SunOS servers, and at least one Mac.

Some code related to "PFCP offloading" or "PFCP tunneling" has just appeared in mainline linux. Oddly enougn PFCP is not a tunneling protocol, and the code itself claims its not implementing PFCP. Trying to find out more about it: lists.openwall.net/netdev/2024… #linux #3gpp #telecom - if anyone knows more, I am very curious.

#Firefox should now support extensions’ content scripts on pages with a sandbox CSP/iframe directive:

Bugzilla bug 1411641: CSP ‘sandbox’ directive prevents content scripts from matching, due to unique origin, breaking also browser features is resolved in the v128 branch, coming in a few months.

Meanwhile WebKit doesn’t even support media controls on pages with a sandbox directive, requiring me to relax it on any page with a video or audio element.

#AndroidAppRain at apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid today with 8 updated and 2 added apps:

* frigoligo: mobile client for Wallabag
* NeoStumbler: collecting wireless networks to Mozilla Location Services

Enjoy your #free #Android #apps with the #IzzyOnDroid repo :awesome:

in reply to IzzyOnDroid ✅

Mozilla Location Service is retiring. Is #NeoStumbler still usable then?

in reply to Markus Henn

@voks Thanks for asking! Correct that to "retired". Then ask why I didn't add the NonFreeNet anti-feature while F-Droid did (no uploads possible anymore).

NeoStumbler collects and, for now, lets you export collected data. There are "custom servers" in preparation for MLS/Ichnaea. As soon as such are up, running and useful, NeoStumbler will add them.

TowerCollector did something comparable, you can enter a custom URL for upload. But then, TC also supports OpenCellID, so it has additional use.

Ah, PS, forgot to mention the

1 app was removed: not having received answers to my question from #ProtonMail for 1 year 3 months, them having the issue tracker closed a few months ago, now the entire repo was archived. There's a new repo, but app size increased even more – and still no per-ABI builds.

Thus I had to remove ProtonMail now from #IzzyOnDroid, and its return is rather unlikely. Please complain to them not me should this be an issue for you – and sorry for the sad news.

Antwort vom support bezüglich APP auch gut

"Please note that we have been gradually rolling out the beta version of the new mail app (V6), but we have not yet hit production and the codebase is not OSS yet.
Due to this, the builds are not uploaded on GitHub. However, please know that the source code shall be available soon, as we are working on updating it."

Dafür dass man sich so lobt fürs OpenSource sein und das man ja "gemeinsam mit der Community" Sachen macht schon komisch 🙄

in reply to Michael

in reply to Proton

@protonprivacy thanks, but that's only one aspect. I've asked for per-ABI builds back in 2/2023 with multiple follow-ups (as your APKs got far too big for the IoD repo). Didn't receive an answer yet, so I had to remove the app from IoD. In the new repo I see the APK got even bigger, still no per-ABI builds, still no answer. That's quite disappointing. A communication like that looks a bit weird for a communications project 😉 @Michael1

I think my preference for IM might be going to #Deltachat for now. I dislike that Signal wants a phone number and is centralized and won't let F-Droid build and distribute a client. Also, I've been using Matrix and operating a server for years and I was a fool it's bad and I want to quit.

Deltachat works with any email account and uses it for everything, it's basically E2EE chat over IMAP and SMTP using a subset of OpenPGP. It's simple, FOSS, works fine, has stickers!

AntennaPod has been growing for well over a decade, lead by several main developers. With contributions from many, the code structure grew more and more complex. The past three years we spent restructuring code to make our beloved app clean, lean, and ready for the future. All while releasing new features and fixes! Thanks for all of the work improving what is, to me, the best daily FOSS podcast player.

I've honestly been surprised by the lack of new bugs encountered with the refactor.

The only small things I've noticed is AP pausing playback when switching from wifi to mobile data. Pushing play again restarts streaming.

Also, the option to start playing on connecting to bluetooth seemed to disappear?

Thanks again. Looking forward to the future and hopefully some podcasting 2.0 stuff! ❤️

in reply to Blort™ 🐀Ⓥ🥋☣️

@Blort
With pleasure! For bugs following the refactor: note that it lands in 3.4 which is currently rolled out to 10% of our Google Play users only.

For the issue about pausing playback when switching from WiFi to mobile data, we suppose that you're streaming (not downloading) your episode? Under Settings » Downloads » Mobile updates, do you have 'Streaming' enabled? If yes, feel free to create an enhancement request on the forum or GitHub.

Restart on Bluetooth we had to remove unfortunately due to Android limitations: github.com/AntennaPod/AntennaP…. Adding the AntennaPod quick tile might be a workaround.

And one of our contributors is working on Podcasting 2.0 elements, starting with #transcripts. Exciting times ahead!

Vueling makes 400 Million € profit per year. It’s website inaccessibility cost them 90.000€.

Do you think that paying 0,02% of your income after tax would make you not do a thing? That would be 10€ of a 50.000€ income after tax.

These fines are too low and inconsequential.
