We're into a fresh new year, but here's a quick look at what the #LibreOffice development and QA community did in December! Including simplified dialog boxes, a better dark mode, and text effect improvements: qa.blog.documentfoundation.org… #foss #opensource #freesoftware

✨ I tried @jack's django-templated-email-md project tonight, which was easy to use and was all I needed. I tried out a few other libraries, but it checked the right boxes for me.

If you want a bit more than Django's default mail handling provides, I recommend checking it out.

I no longer have an excuse not to send emails in my projects.

World Central Kitchen Meal Distribution Sites: Southern California wildfires worldcentralkitchen.org/news/m…

I needed to do something for Los Angeles, so I just donated $100 to World Central Kitchen who has staff on scene now helping to feed both first responders and displaced residents.

One of the reasons I always choose this charity is that they do not pummel you with requests after you donate. And...Jose Andres is just an awesome human being. And good starts at the top.

Right so I've redone this thing, because meh. Comparison of a bunch of software speech synthesizers against Infovox SA101 hardware synthesizer by having them all say the same text that was recorded by SA101 back in the day and used in Klatt's Demonstration of Several Milestones in Speech Synthesis recording.

Search for “Google Slides” & you may see that the first image they select for one of their flagship office softwares is... Someone’s SEO-cash-grab “custom product” spam. Plastic slippers with the Google slides icon on them? Google’s own intellectual property is being parasitized here. What chance do independent artists stand? Google doesn’t care, as long as they are paid by search spammers who, in turn, somehow think this will make money. #search #searchCrisis #AISlop #google #ai #sloppocalypse

Am I out of line for thinking this makes Google look very bad? As in “sell that stock they don’t know what they are doing” bad? This isn’t just me being a scruffy anti-capitalist hippie… this is just a bad look. For a company that is the front door to the web for millions to have so little consistency— for the SEO garbage to be lapping at their own projects. It’s tawdry, broken and depressing.

I have thought for a while now that we are witnessing the end of the internet as a useful tool for anything. It's only real function now is for communication by closed, invitation only, special interest groups, families, or organizations. Literally nothing else is trustworthy now. Ads are scams, articles are fake and wrong, search will not show you what you need, just what they're trying to push. It's useless.

Hey mastodon, anyone interested in a really cool internship for the blind through the library of congress teaching you how to transcribe music and documents into Braille? If so here’s the link to find out more

Welcome to the RB family, MMRL 🥳

Magisk Module Repo Loader (MMRL) allows you to load custom #Magisk repos with a simple UI.

For an app with elevated privileges, a proof like RB is especially valuable. So thanks to DerGoogler for having made this possible :awesome:

Say I consider "Audacity" to be a frustrating program to use.

Is there a Linux audio recording program which is a little more stripped down than Audacity? Like say some sort of "voice memo" program that lets me just record voice clips and recover the wavs. Export as MP3 a bonus but not required.

Super ultra bonus points if it's in either the GNOME Software repository or on Flathub.

The previous message regarding Northern Lights is incorrect. It should've been sent yesterday. Anyway, coming up at 01:00 UTC, it's an hour of Smooth Jazz, Chillout and Easy Listening music on Smooth and Easy with Kelly Sapergia. Tune in at theglobalvoice.info and find more information about the show at ksapergia.net/smooth/. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

NVDA Alpha 34909 and newer also break the BrowserNav add-on. So it's not just TTS-oriented add-ons which are affected, though BrowserNav apparently has some audio components. Issue posted here: github.com/mltony/nvda-browser…

I guess Mark really thinks that Meta smart Glasses is the iPhone of today: AppleInsider, ‪@appleinsider‬, During an interview with Joe Rogan about Meta's abandonment of fact-checking and changing rules to allow hate speech, Meta's CEO targeted Apple for lacking innovation since the iPhone.

Triangle Centers
A Brief Introduction

The center of a triangle is an interesting idea. Unlike circles, a triangle’s center isn’t always the same point because triangles aren’t generally symmetric, and there are lots of different ways to define what you mean by the center of a triangle. Years ago, when the internet was young, I remember finding Clark Kimberling’s online Encyclopedia of Triangle Centers, which had documented hundreds of different ways to define a triangle’s center. The Encyclopedia now contains nearly 40,000 different definitions.

The four most famous triangle centers are the center of mass, circumcenter, incenter, and orthocenter. These were all known by the ancient Greeks, making them more than a couple thousand years old. All four of these can be easily demonstrated by folding paper. So get yourself some paper and scissors, and follow along.

Remarkably, some triangle centers can fall outside the triangle, especially if you use an obtuse triangle—one with at least one obtuse angle. So start your exploration with an acute triangle. To keep it interesting, try not to make your triangle too close to equilateral. Make each of the sides at least 2-3 inches long. Cut out four copies of your triangle.

This week in #FDroid (TWIF):

- We will remove the "gentle update" from F-Droid 1.22.0-alpha, as it is not stable enough. Thank you for testing (and finding bugs)!
- there is a new article on how to replace most common apps with open source versions
- Fossify Paint was added
- we recommend to switch from Mull to Fennec (as Mull has stopped development)
- OpenTracks is now available as reproducible and non-reproducible variant
- Exclave, a SagerNet fork was added
