Missed FOSDEM, and you want to know how Matrix got where it is right now, where it succeeded, where it fell short, and what's remaining on the Road to Mainstream Matrix?

We have your back!

Just got my hands on Ableton Move, absolutely outstanding piece of hardware! I'm still learning since it's literally day one of owning this thing, but I must say, this is a dream come true for me. I don't have much to share at the moment, but for anyone curious, this is my first WAV export.
By the way, I'd like to thank @FreakyFwoof for the Let's Move video and all the work on Move accessibility, as well as @BorrisInABox for organizing the #Movuary hashtag.

Very very nice, I could see someone laying down a rap to that if it carried on. I sadly couldn't get the ableton move at Christmas, but I've added it to my 2025 new years resolution and to be more music producing to try to do this and stay active is hard as I'm doing things 7 days a week, but I'm determined to get back into it and not to let my previous feers come over me again. I have to stop thinking negativity and thing positivity, although I've been through some bad experiences I've had in the past regarding my producing and it's all come to 1 grinding halt and boom, I end up leaving my mac untouched for years and years and gathering dust, not to mention a BeatPad II DJ controler which was a christmas present in 2018! So #Let'sMove and good vibes all the way for 2025

Six times so far ... is how often important parts of #deltachat were independently #security audited and analyzed. Thanks to IncludeSecurity, Cure53, Applied Crypto Team at ETH Zuerich and Radical Open Security.

Last audit is from December 2024 covering @rpgp , the minimal #OpenPGP Rust library that is gaining traction with others projects as well.
Shout-out to dignifiedquire and @hko for their excellent maintenance! For more info on Delta Chat related security audits: delta.chat/en/help#security-au…

I tried to find when #Signal has published the most recent #security audit, and it turns out they either never published an audit or their code was never audited at all.

The closest thing I found is the list
community.signalusers.org/t/ov…
which only cites research papers and some evidence that in 2018 Signal paid Doyensec, but nothing got published as the result. Even then, it looks like the apps were not audited for more than 5 years since then.

Great points but no concrete suggestions. Organize how? Where? To be honest though, you need both, posting and organizing. Perhaps the world still remembers the "maidan" revolution in Ukraine? I hope we do and learn. Social media played a crucial role there. You Can’t Post Your Way Out of Fascism 404media.co/you-cant-post-your…

WTF Mozilla? I'm hoping they just forgot to delete this verbiage from their terms of service, which suggests they are still working with the personal data removal service OneRep.

mozilla.org/en-US/about/legal/…

Last year, Mozilla said it was dropping its partnership with OneRep after a story I published showed its founder had created dozens of people-search services and was even running one of the larger ones whilst selling services to help people remove their information from these sites.

#odemčeno Z USA se stává nepřátelská teokracie. Naivita američanů vede k procesu podobnému tomu v Československu v únoru 1948.
USA je nyní stejně nebezpečný nepřítel, jako Rusko.

While we are all enthusiastically busy decentralizing, federating, and "freeing our feeds", @tante asks the necessary question "should it be built in the first place". An insightful post that gets you thinking about the tradeoffs between 'if' and 'how'. tante.cc/2025/02/07/the-open-s…

#Slidstvo is an investigative journalism organization from #Ukraine, founded by absolutely fearless folks, one of whom I have the honor of calling a friend.

They just got 80% of their budget slashed due to US oligarchs – the kind they tend to investigate – shuttering #USAID:

Investigative journalism is hard and dangerous enough by itself. They are doing it in a war-torn country, under falling bombs and rockets. And now their limited budget just got even more limited.

Star link killing the ozone layer.

First generation (Gen1) Starlink satellites are being retired to make way for newer models. "More than 500 of the 4700 Gen1 Starlinks have now reentered,"

When Starlinks reenter, they disintegrate before hitting the ground, adding metallic vapors to the atmosphere.

In February 2023, NASA flew a WB-57 aircraft 60,000 feet over Alaska to collect aerosols. 10% of the particles contained aluminum and other metals from the "burn-up" of satellites.

What we're observing is a giant uncontrolled experiment in atmospheric chemistry. The demise of just one Gen1 Starlink satellite produces about 30 kilograms (66 pounds) of aluminum oxide, a compound that eats away at the ozone layer. A new study finds these oxides have increased 8-fold between 2016 and 2022, and the recent surge is increasing the pollution even more.

was just going to post about how the new p*xelfed app makes the login experience considerably worse for people on not-the-main-instance

the onboarding flow in apps meant for decentralised services is going to be hard but this isn't the fix, especially when the main server is falling over and failing to generate image previews.

instead of (gratuitously) comparing himself against mastodon yet again, how about we look at email apps instead which have probably solved the multi-provider problem?
