That was a great episode and the voices of the Daleks were some of the best from the classic series. One thing about that story that always confuses me is when Davros is being told about the Movellan war. At one point, he says something like, "two giant supercomputers warring against one another not able to outhink each other? Fascinating! If only I had been there." But he was there and dealt with that very problem in "Destiny" so why is he reacting like that and why would the writers not have acknowledged this?

It totally revamped thei Daleks for a new era, and also put all the continuity of the Daleks into some semblance of order. Here's another one from the "I wonder why MAME emulates this" department. Weight Talker, a talking scale from 1985. We purchased one in 1986. It has five memory positions so you can track how much you have gained or lost for up to five people, a guest button for weighing someone or something without affecting any of the memories, can weigh in pounds or kilograms, memory can be disabled, and when it shuts off it can either say "Have a nice day" or "Goodbye," user selectable. It can also speak in either English or German, though this option isn't configurable on the one we had. In MAME, the weight to be measured is implemented using an analog dial which you use left and right arrows to adjust. Here, I play with it for less than a minute. I have it configured to think its batteries (7 AA cells on the older model or two nine-volt batteries on the newer model) are low.

@smallsees my guess is it’s either malicious and meant to waste the maintainers time or just spraying trying to get one thing right so it can look like a contributor to credible projects and then use that reputation maliciously later.

Perhaps I'll take some heat for being enthusiastic about a proprietary thing that's only implemented by one vendor so far, but I now think that Cloudflare Workers (workers.cloudflare.com/) is fundamentally the right way to develop, operate, and pay for web application backends on the public Internet.
As for vendor lock-in, they've open-sourced a large part of their runtime environment in workerd (github.com/cloudflare/workerd), and I'm sure there are multiple other companies that can implement competing but compatible services.

Nothing new. In the closed Source World you have to trust your Key to Companies. Only Open Source and with Math, you have the Right to check and proof. I do not trust, Google, Microsoft, Apple.. without Math or open Source... Compilers and or Hardware. I know we have no Choice cause sublayer complexity. TL;DR: Yes, it does client-side scanning for nudity, but it only notifies the user. It does not (according to Google) notify anyone else. This is unlike the Apple thing, which scanned for CSAM in particular and then sent anything it identified to the government.
Of course Google might be lying, but that's always the risk of a closed OS. This changes nothing.
Quoting a Mastodon post by GrapheneOS: "The app doesn't provide client-side scanning used to report things to Google or anyone else. It provides on-device machine learning models usable by applications to classify content as being spam, scams, malware, etc. This allows apps to check content locally without sharing it with a service and mark it with warnings for users."

If you have an #Android #phone, a new app that doesn't appear in your menu has been automatically and silently installed (or soon will be) by #Google. It is called #AndroidSystemSafetyCore and does exactly the same - scan all images on your device as well as all incoming ones (via messaging). The new spin is that it does so "to protect your #privacy".
You can uninstall this app safely via System -> Apps.
I swear the MAME developers sometimes find the goofiest things to emulate. Take this one from a few years back. Talking Wrinkles, a talking hand puppet plushy dog from 1986. This one is of special interest to me as I received one for Christmas in 1987 when I was nine years old. IIRC the product packaging said it can say 1,000 things. I had tons of fun with it at the time. Now I mostly find it annoying. Emulation isn't perfect, but here's around 6 and a half minutes of me playing with the thing in various ways. At one point I emulate putting the toy bone it comes with (it has a magnet at one end) in his mouth and letting him chew on it for a while. Then twice I put it in, then take it away too soon, which he doesn't like. During the last part when he is snoring, I have deleted about thirty seconds of silence before he finally says "Bye," and powers off. In particular, notice the extremely electronic-sounding speech and doggy noises. It has 32K of ROM and, surprisingly, a cartridge slot, though no cartridges are known to have ever been released for it. The speech is not LPC, it sounds more like Digitalker to me.
