@podfeet Your Time Shifter app got a mention in this week's Top Tech Tidbits (see item 10) and I also posted it to my Tech-VI list. It won't surprise me if you see an increase in usage.

I’d heard this was likely to happen. For those of us already dealing with Social Security overpayments, this doesn’t mean anything SO FAR. If you get a notice after March 27, however, this will likely impcat you. blog.ssa.gov/social-security-t…?

Welcome to the RB family, RadioUpnp 🥳

apt.izzysoft.de/packages/com.w…

RadioUpnp reads any internet radio. Minimalist and full customizable. With support for UPnP/DLNA. And thanks to the efforts by its developer, with its latest release today it is reproducible :awesome:

So the current RB status at the IzzyOnDroid repo is: 508 apps (40.6%)

With the world changing around us, many governments and organisations are trying to reduce their dependency on tech giants. Here's an update on how one German federal state is moving 30,000 PCs to LibreOffice (and longer-term, Linux): blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #foss #opensource #freesoftware

Dear Fediverse, I am looking for a super simple streaming tool that is just as brilliant as OBS, but only for the use case of streaming a presentation (yes pptx is still dominant 😞).

But webcam on, select presentation..and GO GO GO!

There may be a config button on it.. but for the stimulation of more (live) broadcasting via PeerTube that is not a USP. it has to be simple above all! 95% of the use cases in my opinion.

Open source powers so much of the world, but the people behind it often go unseen. It was wonderful to meet so many maintainers and contributors in person at an event like @FOSSBackstage. These are real people doing critical work on that we all rely on, and they deserve all the recognition and appreciation. A huge thank you to everyone who gives their time and energy to FOSS, and a special thank you to these individuals (and their teams) who have worked with the Sovereign Tech Agency. 1/

Thanks to the magic of the Streisand effect, I just heard about #CarelessPeople - a book by former Meta employee Sarah Wynn-Williams.

Apparently the company is FREAKING OUT and seeking legal ways to stop its promotion. I can see why. This article about it in the Times made my jaw drop: web.archive.org/web/2025031022…

I will definitely order it at my local bookshop.

in reply to John Francis 🦫🇨🇦🍁💪⬆️

@johnefrancis True enough on that front, but frankly we need to be part of a larger economy in order to be able to stand our ground globally. Thus far the plan has been to build a relationship with the USA. That seems not to have gone as planned. Certainly, Canada/China don't have a good relationship. That basically leaves Europe.

Bluesky To Sell Your Content To AI Data Miners

So it begins. Hidden in Jay Graber's recent charm offensive is this innocuously framed initiative: Bluesky is weighing a proposal that gives users consent over how their data is used for AI (techcrunch.com/2025/03/10/blue…)

Not so fast.

1) Shows they are planning on doing content deals with AI companies.
2) Seems like it is Opt-out vs. Opt-in (see below).
3) It is just a voluntary robots.txt file

TIL about the bulk import functionality in django-import-export library.

django-import-export.readthedo…

Some caveats:
- set `batch_size` for better performance
- doesn't work with many-to-many relationships
- no `pre_save` and `post_save` signals sent (it' doesn't call `model.save()`)

In simple crude single-shot transfers without saved TLS sessions, you will not find HTTP/3 faster:

github.com/curl/curl/discussio…

in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

This isn't surprising. 0RTT and improved avoidance of head of line blocking are two of the big wins for HTTP/3, and those are ruled out by this test. Over a long connection you would get other wins (the difference in ACK vs. NACK management of loss), but "crude, single-shot transfers" weren't really the use case that drove the development of QUIC at Google or the standardization of it at the IETF.

You can see this pretty well in the first QUIC charter: datatracker.ietf.org/doc/chart…
