I've been using @ecosia for several weeks. Its privacy protection is less strict than DuckDuckGo's, but otherwise, it's a very usable #search engine, on par with #Google (no surprise, since it uses their index). If you keep using Google because you can't get used to other search engines, consider Ecosia. You'll get the same results, and while Google would use the profits from your searches to build more data centers for AI, Ecosia will use them to plant trees.
I second that. @ecosia is not particularly fancy, it lacks some QoL features which e.g. Kagi has, but it works well with no distractions and no pushing of unwanted AI gimmicks down your throat. And they plant trees.

I selected human narrated audio books, but the word "prefer" is a bit misleading for me here. It's the less time-consuming and the most available for me, actually.
I prefer electronic text and tts. Human narrators are slower, less clear, and inject interpretation into the text. For me it's better to have a flat voice that lets the text speak for itself.
@modulux That's understandable for sure. I actually prefer that interpretation to be added. I take the book in better with a slower, more natural voice.
@schmaker @Mastodon No, I meant Mastodon. Fediverse consists of a lot of software. Some even include Bluesky, which is completely US based, in it. But Mastodon has clear European roots.

Oh a mysterious "slow burn" of Postgres corruption? Where is the engagement on the Postgres mailing lists? I haven't seen a single thread about this issue on the pgsql-general or pgsql-hackers lists.
It's either a hardware storage bug, a raid implementation bug, a kernel bug, or their Postgres/filesystem tuning is trading data reliability for performance. But they're not sharing anything of value.
Postgres doesn't just corrupt itself. We have several DBs > 100TB at $work. Many people have significantly larger databases...
I kinda doubt their recovery times too. They will probably forget that they need to disable indexes to make the restore have a reasonable speed. And pg_restore is single threaded per table. 1.5TB can take 1.5 days.
I think they're fucked. I wonder if they will be able to recover without it taking months, literally. They haven't indicated they're using anything but vanilla Postgres.

pg_dump and pg_restore are reliable tools for backing up and restoring Postgres databases. They're essential for database migrations, disaster recovery and so on.

If from the very beginning people don’t see the difference between Ukrainian defenders and Hamas terrorists, then trying to explain anything further is simply a waste of time.
They're not exactly the same, to be clear. Hamas is a terrorist organization.
But the attacks on civilian targets by Israel and Russia alike - collective punishment toward innocent people - is ABSOLUTELY the same.
Both cases entail a blatant land grab by disproportionately powerful forces (Russia, Israel), with the main difference that Israel has abused an (arguably legitimate) casus belli to justify their war crimes against civilians.
Had Israel limited itself to targeting Hamas terrorists alone, taking great care to limit civilian harm - which Ukraine HAS done, quite admirably - we'd be having a very different conversation.
@jeff That I agree. But unfortunately it's not always possible, since hamas uses human shields and non-military buildings (which Russia does also, btw).
Ukraine is fighting a full-fledged war against a much larger opponent and has yet - not even once - to resort to Israel's tactics vis a vis civilian targets. They clearly try to minimize them.
Despite having an opponent that has killed far more innocents than Hamas on October 7th, using far more sophisticated and deadly weapons. That launches ~500 Shahed drones, cruise missiles, “human safari" drones, etc. against Ukrainian civilians on a nightly basis.
The "human shield" thing is, IMHO, a flimsy excuse.
Israel could be much more careful if they wanted to. October 7th, as horrific as it was, was nowhere near the threat to Israel's very survival as a political entity as what Russia has done continuously since 2022.
Maybe it'd make some things harder. It probably makes things harder on Ukraine as well. Like you said... Russia does it, too.
If Ukraine can follow the Geneva Conventions, so can Israel.
