Seeing that some villains are trying to take the T out of LGBT so trans people get erased and ignored. You know that the word "queer" is right there and it includes all of us perverts and freaks, right? We tried hard to get queer to happen, but the straight folk didn't like it so they call us LGBT, like we're simply a list of approved aberrations. And a lot of us queer folk have submitted to this linguistic oppression. I am sad every time I hear a queer person say "LGBT" or "LGBTQIA+" or whatever, because that's accepting the oppressor's language for us. Queer is a good word because it includes everyone who isn't part of the sexual majority. It is inclusive by default and by definition.

For anyone who thinks "queer" is a slur so they prefer "gay" because it's not a slur, I'll point out that only a couple decades ago "gay" was a slur and we said "homosexual" to be polite. Language evolves. Embrace "queer" and avoid having to figure out what groups deserve to be part of an abbreviation.

Hello All,
I have a long-time, close friend who really could use some financial aid. We went to high school together, and we manage The Q Online, an Internet radio station together.
His credit cards are maxed at thousands of dollars and about to go into collections. His Renter's Insurance has just increased their price, and he's $150 behind on that, and his apartment complex requires the insurance, and could kick him out if he is without it. Additionally, he is $508 behind on his Internet/cell bill, and they are threatening to cut his services.
Any assistance that the #Fediverse #Community might be able to offer would most certainly be appreciated. If you are unable to assist monitarily, it would be much appreciated if you could boost this post far and wide for maximum exposure. With all the Thanks in the world,
from Tyrone and Adam.

The big project I'm working on (since I finished this week's homework already, huzzah!) is a deep re-org of my entire digital life. I thought it would take a few days, but now I'm looking more at a few weeks.

Greg is helping me, he got everything consolidated onto a drive so I could go through it. I'm a digital packrat - over 2 terabytes of stuff. It's incredible.

I just found the script for Star Wars. And dozens of files I can only open on a NeXT computer.

Anyone remember Utne Reader? I subscribed for years, and back before what everyone thought would be the big Y2K disaster, they created the Y2K Citizen's Action Guide.

I found it buried in my in my files. If anyone wants to read this tiny bit of history, you can download it here (439 KB, 124 pages):

I'm just going to make this (see above) a whole thread of things I'm gonna put on DropBox in case anyone else wants 'em. I know some of you are packrats like me. :)

Like some kind of weird Fedi garage sale, where everything is free.

Northern Exposure fans, here's some wallpapers from 2003. There are 16 images, total of 2MB.

well, if any instance is willing to take my 277 MB archive in, I'll migrate to it I guess Or maybe not, since you cannot import posts, only follower lists.if the stability looks good (of course occasional for 6-12H is understandable once a year or something.) I cannot reply to posts y'all. I can only read them. that's the thing. I click "reply" through the site and it hangs there all boarked. Ugh. I'm lucky I could even export my archive as the prefs page works.

@amythegay @element exactly. It's unpleasant to have major UI part enshittify with no way to avoid it. I still have the old UI in the other browser until
1. I mistakenly reload
2. browser restarts

In both case I will have to, once again bring the web inspector to dismiss the undismissable popup about session keys.

I keep defending Matrix/Element when people say it's shite, but I'm running out of steam.

The crates.io team was notified of two malicious crates (with similar names as legitimate crates) which were actively searching file contents for Etherum private keys, Solana private keys, and arbitrary byte arrays for exfiltration. The malicious crates have been removed.

The space elevator project was funded by the world's billionaires, who were offered exclusive luxury tickets on the first ride up into space.

After the launch, the project announced a second funding round, to start looking into the feasibility and advisability of installing a "down" button.

dear god. I'm in an all-hands call. director says we are adopting a "zero-defect approach" by... ceasing to work on bug fixes, delegate bug fixes to LLMs, while developers focus on new features. I think I've already encountered this approach already, with a GDPR-breaching bug introduced by a "refactoring" fix in July by a dev I'd never heard of before

#GetFediHired anyone looking for an application support engineer/developer/general computer-wrangler, remote or based in Glasgow?

@matt very much still recommending this to everybody. it's kind of impossible to talk about the worldbuilding elements that make it so good without spoiling a very important reveal, but if you like worldbuilding, the worldbuilding _is_ the story. Read the trilogy as if it is one book, though. It's a 3-act structure and without the 3rd act it will not fully make sense.
