Have you had success with or failures after trying out the Windows 10 IoT LTSC image I posted to only friends?
If failure, not good. You can always return to your older version of Windows from within recovery. I recommend this for someone who has patchy drivers for some reason (theirs was too newer and no compatible Win10 section in the INF?) Or if you find that Windows 10 eats up more battery life on your laptop (read about how it has no thread director which Intel only made available for Win11 first, there are mitigations you can do.)
No matter the case. In an administrator command prompt, type:
Reagentc /boottore
This will set you up so that next time you restart your computer, you are in recovery and can press Control+Windows+enter for Narrator too. It will only boot to recovery one time. After hitting "continue" on that screen, you are booted into Windows again, or if you just reboot the machine by unplugging it.
From there try: Advanced options > troubleshoot > uninstall updates> uninstall latest feature update.
This will rebuild you back to Windows 11 without issue, I've done this on the Asus where sound drivers just didn't work until they were installed in the right order.

I think I’ve finally worked out what really bugs me about Meson subprojects. It’s the fact that they can be used to force you to become the packager of your entire dependency stack.

A seemingly-harmless “can you add x as a subproject because it’s not widely available” then turns into “you need to make sure x is statically linked” and “you need to audit what files get installed as a result of x” and so on.

subprojects solve a problem, and I don’t have a better solution, but I get irked.

@federicomena From an efficiency perspective: yes. From a discoverability/hackability perspective, I don't think I would've submitted a gnome-shell patch to fix an Alt-tab window layout bug on weird multimonitor layouts if I hadn't found the .js files lying there in the open in /usr/share, editable with sudo. (They were later moved to gresources.)

idk if you're aware of this, but you can go to your local Tractor Supply or equivalent farm store and you can buy a gallon of Chlorhexadine for dirt cheap. It's the blue stuff your vet will sell you at a high markup (and they'll dilute it; you'll have the concentrate). You can use it for flushing wounds etc. It's an incredibly good antibiotic, like iodine but doesn't stain. It can stay active for 24hrs+ and keep working so a quick splash a day is good enough and does an incredible job of preventing infections

Very commonly used on horses, livestock, etc which is why the farm store has it

Unsatisfied with the lack of clarity in her answer, Douthat pressed, “OK, let me try that again: If a president defied the Supreme Court, what would you do?”

Coney Barrett then admitted that the court’s hands would largely be tied because there is a limited enforcement mechanism at its disposal.

“Well, as you say, the court lacks the power of the purse. We lack the power of the sword,” she conceded. “And so, we interpret the Constitution, we draw on precedents, we have these questions of structure, and we make the most with the tools that we have.”

The court lacks the power of the sword? What? Yes they absolutely do have the power of the sword. She's parroting something from Hamilton in the Federalist papers which makes sense because she identifies as an originalist. But we've had the Court already cover this and announce their authority:

The ability to punish disobedience to judicial orders is re-garded as essential to ensuring that the Judiciary has a means to vindicate its own authority without complete de- pendence on other Branches. "If a party can make himself a judge of the validity of orders which have been issued, and by his own act of disobedience set them aside, then are the courts impotent, and what the Constitution now fittingly calls 'the judicial power of the United States' would be a mere mockery." Gompers v. Bucks Stove & Range Co., 221 U. S. 418, 450 (1911).

They have the power to deputize anyone they want to enforce their orders. If they needed to they could call up private militias, local and state police from anywhere, even veterans give them the power to enforce their rulings. Funding and supplying them might be tricky, but not impossible.

She's just capitulating. Either the Court is co-equal or it's not. Cowards.

My wife told me today as she left for work that if she died at this point in her life it would be okay because she has had the fortune to live a life free of war, famine and control, allowing her to live a happy and largely care-free life.

After she left, I started wondering how many of us from the richer countries are starting to realise how good it has been.

It has been good. So good. I don't want war, suffering and disease. It's not acceptable!

I want the life I've had for everyone!

There is an issue with Firefox under KDE not getting KDE's custom keyboard shortcuts to work so I can META+C / META+V for almost everything... except Firefox. Which is annoying.

why not ctrl+c and ctrl+v? try using ctrl+c in your terminal and see what happens instead of copying :)

the default of ctrl+shift+c and ctrl+shift+v is insane finger gymnastics to me

Hello everyone,
Our home is in a war zone, and I haven’t been able to reach it since the first days of the war.
Today, as the army gradually withdrew, I managed to go to the area — but the landscape has completely changed, and I couldn’t recognize our house.
We are now without shelter. Please, help us by sharing this post or donating.

Microsoft says "something big" coming to Windows 11 this week
"...Essentially, it wants to turn Windows into an agentic OS and thus also recently announced MCP support for Windows."
neowin.net/news/microsoft-says…
in reply to Alex Hall

@alexhall ahahah yeah, a voice-driven OS? I think that's great for some accessibility folks, but I'm still not sure if I want to do everything on my computer by voice. More agentic features also don't really interest me as it means Windows is collecting more telemetry to build that agentic info through. To me all of this sounds really, really bad, guess we'll find out soon, but yeah, if I thought Windows had some hope of recovering from this trajectory, now all of them are gone after seeing that. It may not be that, but that strong voice recognition hint tells me, it well could be.

This is fantastic news! 🎉

Wonderful to see it's been gifted to the community and is no longer a “Google” project. Here's to many more years of being Lit! 🔥

Well... almost.

Just thinking about it made the fire alarm dreams come back, but this time, I was living in New York but still going to high school in North Carolina, and there were some legistical issues after the school caught fire. I couldn't convince the bus driver to drive from Greensboro to NYC, because, at the fastest possible speed the bus could travel, with it's governor, including traffic, it would take about a day each way.

OK, I've been promising this ISO all day now while doing Vibe coding for work projects in the background. It's official. In about 1.5 hours, everyone will have the file at once, through a paid service I'm keeping a week just to do this with. I wasn't charged for them yet, it's kinda pricey per month if you want more than 5 gigs so really that one week will be it, I'm canceling that sub. Even though their site is fairly accessible to use.

Bookface User Styles?

Bookface Userstyles Icon

@Friendica Support

I may have asked this before, but I'd love to know if anyone out there is still using the Bookface Userstyles in a userContent.css stylesheet or with the "Stylus" or "Userscripts" browser extensions?

Because if nobody is really using Bookface Userstyles anymore I'd like to stop updating them. They have some significant differences from the Bookface scheme files and so require a lot of extra manual editing and testing to make sure they work at overriding the Frio theme. They may be how Bookface got started but I'm not using them myself anymore and wondered if anyone else is still relying on them?

Because now I've had to work on yet another branch for the Friendica development Release Candidate, which will at some point become the new "stable" version. But no doubt some server admins will continue running the current stable release well after the next version is released. So maintaining and updating Bookface is already a bit of work, considering it's a side-project that I can only get to when I have time. If people are cool with my dropping the Userstyles that would help.

Of course the existing Userstyles will continue to work with the current stable version of Friendica (2024.12). They haven't been updated to work with the Release Candidate and won't be if I'm retiring them. They'll still be available in my GitLab Repo though, I'm not going to delete them.

in reply to Random Penguin

I know I said I'd like to stop updating the Bookface Userstyles but I went ahead and did it anyway. In part because I've needed to start using them again myself over at Friendica.World, which switched to the Release Candidate and the Bookface schemes get overwritten every time the server is updated or something.

Anyway, I started by adding all the Bookface 1.8.5 server-side changes to the Userstyles for Friendica Stable:

DOWNLOAD: Userstyles for Friendica Stable

And then did the same for the upcoming version:

DOWNLOAD: Userstyles for Friendica Release Candidate

Instructions on how to use the Userstyles can be found in the Bookface Wiki

Y'all are lucky I'm not in meetings for the afternoon. Going to spend the rest of the day, night, hogging my internet's upload speed to upload this thing in many, many places. Don't y'all worry. Windows 10 will live on. I dare not upload it to the archive because I don't know how to make it not tied to my name, but everywhere it's going to get uploaded to, it'll be annonomous. Must keep it so, and potentially with file expirations, although I'm still looking for a solution that doesn't have that for free accounts and can upload max 5 GB file size.
Again, I repeat: the ISO does not use an activated product key. It installs the generic KMS Windows 10 IoT LTSC key. That's by design, and you'll be asked to activate it just as you would be with any other copy of Windows. Beyond that is up to you. It's not an illegal copy of Windows, what's less legal is redistributing an ISO itself.

Trochu jsem se začetl a zaujalo mě, jak jednoduše je napsaná. Dá se určitě pochopit snáz než podmínky libovolného věrnostního programu.
