There's this email on one of my lists with "VI Coding Research - Call for Participants" as the subject line. I'm assuming they're looking for visually impaired coders, rather than coders who use vi, unless the two groups of coders overlap maybe. But that might be an interesting research question: how many VI coders use vi?

And with a basic camera for video calls and image recognition (I'm blind so I need it). I literally use my phone only a tinny tiny fraction of time because lack of a normal QWERTY keyboard.
I noticed a couple of issues with the friendica and threads.net integration today.
The firefox extention Facebook container gets in the way (reported issue)
The user profile link fails (assuming the above plugin is disabled)
I found the firefox extention Firefox Multi-Account Containers can be used instead ... just that you need to train it to keep meta sites in a seperate container.
I also found that whilst the profile URL fails on friendica, the link under the Unfollow button does work.
(browser containers can be used to keep settings local to a container - eg avoid any cookies set by facebook pollute browsing other sites. Also useful to open different accounts with the same institition)

Question for any blind desktop Linux users, particularly GNOME users, out there: What are the remaining practical issues with running Orca in a Wayland-based GNOME session? I'm guessing inability to synthesize mouse clicks is the main one.
@danirabbit @zersiax The initial suggestion is pretty spot on. Not being able to synthesize mouse clicks is a problem that does present itself quite frequently.
Of course, if we're comparing to Windows then there are many other things, such as reliable OCR, addons for applications, etc. Compared to on x11, however, mouse clicks are the big one.
Why not use Mate and Orca? Or any X based desktop?
I can't see the value of Wayland. So many issues with QT, mouse, themes, remote desktops, admin mode of programs etc.
Default container install of Crostini Linux on ChromeOS uses Wayland. So many issues with compatibility purely due to Wayland, so did native instal of Mint & Mate desktop. I used to use Ubuntu.
@raymaccarthy Wayland is where the maintainers of the graphics stack and the major desktop environments want to go, so we have to make sure we're not left behind.
Wait till they finish developing it. You can't get "left behind". Also unlike Windows, on Linux you can usually install more than one desktop to test or for recovery, without re-install of user data or OS.
At login I can select Mate,. IceWM, Plasma X11, XFCE or Cinnamon. I have 3 versions of Cinnamon.and Wayland is marked Experimental.

Choice is good. I prefer Mate with a customised Server 2003 theme. Everything works and has done since Mint 17.3 32 bit on a wide variety of HW. Now on Mint 22.2 64 bit.
@raymaccarthy It is likely that in the future, MATE will sit atop the Wayback project if running in an X11 session. This may or may not break some functionality that can currently be used with Orca under X11 only.
As I recall, the primary developer of the Mate desktop environment moved onto other projects, so it isn't clear whether Mate has much of a future. X11 apparently doesn't. I'm running GNOME in Wayland sessions with Orca, having dropped X11 some time ago.
Keyboard input from a braille display doesn't work for me at all under Wayland. I don't know the status (there may be a work-around). I use a Qwerty keyboard almost always anyway.
Programatic clipboard access, too. Specifically, I think Orca can't invisibly copy text to the clipboard like NVDA can. The current workaround for something like copying out of a terminal is opening a text window with the flat review content and copying from that, but I wish I could just set start/end markers directly in a terminal without all the ceremony of opening a separate window and re-finding the text in that. Orca has slightly less ergonomic commands for copying/appending the text of the current flat review object to the clipboard, but my understanding is that those keybindings only work under X sessions--at least, I don't think I've ever gotten them working since switching to Wayland and I was a pretty heavy user of them before.

FIPS is fine with TLS 1.3, it's Common Criteria which is not, IIRC. Stupid choice by them, but I don't make the rules.
I agree the PR is an improvement, though. This is not just for FIPS. There are orgs out there that only allow TLS 1.2 because they can MitM that with the middleboxes they have, and those people tend to configure their system crypto-policy (and therefore OpenSSL defaults) to a TLS max version of 1.2. Hey guys. I hope you’re all doing well. So, I’m using #Abletonlive12 with a #Screenreader, which works quite well. However, there’s very little information to help those screen reader users getting started, and I’m worried about falling behind on my work as a result. I’ve also run into another problem. It seems as though an upcoming module in my degree requires that you have ableton sweet. I managed to get myself up to standard, but with all the expenses I’ve had to pay including for university I wasn’t able to afford suite even with a 50% discount. Is there some sort of Beta program that I can join that would allow me to upgrade to suite for free in return for giving them feedback?

If periodic works great for the app, no need to implement anything else. Then, using the push service is a quick (and efficient) solution - which may be enough to get instant notifs. And finally the constant connection is great to give a solution that works out of the box too

@FreakyFwoof For my own understanding and to help you and others who I'm sure rely on Alt text image descriptions - if I post iPhone screenshots like the Watch update one earlier, does it help that I added Alt text to the image or do you have screen/image reading tools that would tell you what is in the screenshot etc? As in any image or screenshot where the focus is on the text does it help if I still include Alt text to describe it? Thanks
