There's this email on one of my lists with "VI Coding Research - Call for Participants" as the subject line. I'm assuming they're looking for visually impaired coders, rather than coders who use vi, unless the two groups of coders overlap maybe. But that might be an interesting research question: how many VI coders use vi?

Friendica & threads.net

@Friendica Support @Fedi.Tips

I noticed a couple of issues with the friendica and threads.net integration today.

  1. The firefox extention Facebook container gets in the way (reported issue)
  2. The user profile link fails (assuming the above plugin is disabled)

I found the firefox extention Firefox Multi-Account Containers can be used instead ... just that you need to train it to keep meta sites in a seperate container.

I also found that whilst the profile URL fails on friendica, the link under the Unfollow button does work.

(browser containers can be used to keep settings local to a container - eg avoid any cookies set by facebook pollute browsing other sites. Also useful to open different accounts with the same institition)

Programatic clipboard access, too. Specifically, I think Orca can't invisibly copy text to the clipboard like NVDA can. The current workaround for something like copying out of a terminal is opening a text window with the flat review content and copying from that, but I wish I could just set start/end markers directly in a terminal without all the ceremony of opening a separate window and re-finding the text in that. Orca has slightly less ergonomic commands for copying/appending the text of the current flat review object to the clipboard, but my understanding is that those keybindings only work under X sessions--at least, I don't think I've ever gotten them working since switching to Wayland and I was a pretty heavy user of them before.

Zohran Mamdani won young men 18-29 by 40 points.

40 POINTS!

And he did so by standing FOR economic justice, FOR Trans rights, FOR immigrant rights, FOR labor rights, FOR Palestinian rights, & FOR diversity.

All the Corporate Democrats who said Dems can only win by by "running to the center," or "siding with Israel on Gaza" or "not being distracted by the Trans issue," should shut up & have the humility to listen.

Zohran is what happens when you run FOR justice rather than just against Trump.

FIPS is fine with TLS 1.3, it's Common Criteria which is not, IIRC. Stupid choice by them, but I don't make the rules.

I agree the PR is an improvement, though. This is not just for FIPS. There are orgs out there that only allow TLS 1.2 because they can MitM that with the middleboxes they have, and those people tend to configure their system crypto-policy (and therefore OpenSSL defaults) to a TLS max version of 1.2. Applications *can* explicitly override that, but should they?

Thank the gods Carney cut the luxury yacht tax, eh?
No longer will people buying a yacht worth over a quarter of a million dollars be saddled with a luxury tax. Ditto your private jet or helicopter with a value above $100,000. Whew.
Corporations will enjoy a “super-reduction” of more than 2% points to Canada’s marginal effective tax rate, and the 1% tax on foreign-owned vacant housing is gone.
Trudeau's proposed increase to the inclusion rate on the capital gains tax is also scrapped.

At least they didn't call it the Canada Strong & Free & Proud Budget. #cdnpoli

In the upcoming release you will be able to follow any blog on the XMPP network directly by clicking on the [Follow] button without being mutually friends (like it was until now), its a small change but with big impacts 😁!

We wrote a detailed and accessible article that explains the differences between the #XMPP network and the #Fediverse and shows how blogs are handled on the XMPP network a bit more in details 😸

If you are curious to see how XMPP works (spoiler: it's pretty simple in the end 😌) checkout our article (and don't forget to leave a ♥️ or a comment!

Liberal government wants to change arbitration rules for public servants

The changes to the Public Sector Labour Relations Act would alter the arbitration process for public service bargaining units.

The changes would ensure arbitrators take into consideration Canada’s fiscal position, so the government can free “resources to be invested towards growing Canada’s economy.”

Hey guys. I hope you’re all doing well. So, I’m using #Abletonlive12 with a #Screenreader, which works quite well. However, there’s very little information to help those screen reader users getting started, and I’m worried about falling behind on my work as a result. I’ve also run into another problem. It seems as though an upcoming module in my degree requires that you have ableton sweet. I managed to get myself up to standard, but with all the expenses I’ve had to pay including for university I wasn’t able to afford suite even with a 50% discount. Is there some sort of Beta program that I can join that would allow me to upgrade to suite for free in return for giving them feedback?

The push notif page looks good too!

If it was only on me, maybe I would order that way: periodic > push > implement constant connection

If periodic works great for the app, no need to implement anything else.
Then, using the push service is a quick (and efficient) solution - which may be enough to get instant notifs.
And finally the constant connection is great to give a solution that works out of the box too

But that's just a detail, and maybe biased too :)

@S1m Done: codeberg.org/IzzyOnDroid/websi… – thanks for your suggestion! 🤗 This also matches the order of best preserving resources, so double win.

(and yes, we renamed the repository, as the original name was a little misleading: the site is not hosted at .codeberg.page)

#Catima 2.39.2's release on #GooglePlay has been delayed due to the regular incompetent review program blocking the update due to "lack of provided login credentials for testing".

I've filed an appeal, stating that Catima is fully offline and has no accounts. We will see.

If you're a Google Play user, to be honest, please just use Catima from #IzzyOnDroid, #GitHub or #FDroid. The more people not on Google Play, the less power Google has on blocking updates :)

@FreakyFwoof For my own understanding and to help you and others who I'm sure rely on Alt text image descriptions - if I post iPhone screenshots like the Watch update one earlier, does it help that I added Alt text to the image or do you have screen/image reading tools that would tell you what is in the screenshot etc?
As in any image or screenshot where the focus is on the text does it help if I still include Alt text to describe it? Thanks
