"Behind the scenes, Google’s agent is taking screenshots of your browser window, something users must agree to in the terms of service, and sending them to Gemini in the cloud for processing. Gemini then sends instructions back to your computer to navigate the web page."

🎉 Happy to announce that my talk "A Universal and Stable API to Everything: XMPP" at FOSDEM has been accepted! 🎉

I'll explore a new way of seeing XMPP and how it can achieve things quickly and simply when used as a coding interface. I’ll also discuss the work of the XMPP Standards Foundation and why having many XEPs isn’t a bad thing.

📍 See you at FOSDEM 1 & 2 February 2025 at Real-Time Lounge.

Talk time slot and details at fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event…

My daughter recently got very interested in puzzles, particularly simplified Sudokus in her comics. The problem was that she really enjoyed the puzzles, but the comics only come out once a week - a limited supply!

In an exceedingly-rare case of "developer actually finishes side project", I built a quick web app at kidssudoku.com

It uses a small 6x6 grid, and emojis in theme sets rather than numbers.

If you've a young puzzler in your house, give it a go, and let me know your thoughts!

I think I now know what "planned obsolescence" means. My little Braun alarm clock has been stuck at this position (advertising photo) now for two days in spite of feeding it two distinct batteries. It would seem that after three years, it's dead Jim.

The second hand is in motion, but neither minute nor hour move by themselves.

In related news I've ordered a small christmas present for myself.

I totally thought it was just someone annoyed with my poor Python style, before realizing it was AI nonsense

Než podporovat něčí rasistické a homofobní výlevy, to si raději sami odpustíme nějaké kafe a investujeme to do provozu instance a serveru 😇

"Have you ever wondered what people used to name their dogs back in medieval times?

"Lucky for us, there was this book written back in the 15th century that included over 1,000 names that were considered to be suitable for dogs," Lexi says.

After reading the entire book, she shared some of her favorite names, which included Garlik, Nosewise, Synfull, Salmon, Mustarde, Bryan, and also Nise and Noty, Filthe, Dredefull, and Arguement.

The book, which featured about 1,065 dog names that people deemed appropriate back then, was recently sold into a closed private collection.

The Smithsonian Magazine said Sturdy, Whitefoot, Hardy, Jakke, Bo, Terri, Troy, Nosewise, Amiable, Nameles, Clenche, Bragge, Ringwood and Holdfast were all also popular dog names
