Two figures to ponder.

First: if your local power company is privately owned, you've seen energy rate hikes at *49% above inflation* over the last three years.

Second: if your local power company is *publicly* owned, you've seen energy rates go up at *44% below inflation* over the same period.

The UK's Investigatory Powers Act has way too much power. By forcing Apple to remove its encryption for UK users, it threatens the #privacy of everyone.

We at Tuta would never build a backdoor - and our #opensource code is proof of that.

If you use a curl built with GnuTLS (debian sid, for example), specifying --ciphers now does nothing.

But some people have need of that option to work. Here you can chime in on how it should be supported:

„For more than 20 years, we’ve been buying nothing else; our own industry has withered. We regret that the local baker, butcher, and poulterer have disappeared from the shopping street. But we never bought anything from them anymore, so it’s our own fault.“ - @bert_hubert

Yesterday, a woman was assaulted and kidnapped / detained by three men who refused to identify themselves for speaking during a Kootenai County Republican Central Committee town hall and pointing out that town halls are supposed to feature citizen comment. The men who detained her were not wearing any badges or security labels/company logos. They were carrying zip ties on them, and were handing out religious Christo-fash pamphlets. Some of the material they were passing out was titled “prayer guide for state legislators - make America righteous again”

The woman illegally detained is Teresa Borrenpohl. Other people (all democrats, according to local media) who tried to help were also detained. Additional footage displays an off duty officer attempting to remove her before the men in black did. He threatened to use force against her and threatened anyone who was filming.

The town hall took place at a high school in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Local Idaho media claims that her violent removal was initiated by County Sheriff Bob Norris before involving LEAR Asset management, a private security firm with alleged ties to sheriff Norris.

FYI for the resistance. #Resist #Amazon #Coup
Edit: I personally do not use Amazon, but thought other people might be interested in sharing this with family and friends. I got a lot of judgey replies here like oh if you were really on our side you wouldn't be using Amazon in the first place. Yes, cancelling Prime would be ideal and I mention that to my friends who still use it, but I try not to be a jerk. If you are trying to persuade people to your side--don't be a jerk.

today is officially *THREE* weeks until the submission deadline for Good Internet magazine!

Good Internet launches in May 2025. it's a volunteer-run, not-for-profit print and digital quarterly magazine for personal website owners and those interested in using the internet as a means of self-expression, art, and recreation.

🔍 we're looking for 1,500-4,000 word articles about anything related to that!

you could write about:

* #internet history
* personal #websites
* #accessibility on the #indieweb
* finding inspiration for a #blog
* #webdesign trends
* running from the #enshittification of the #web
* lessons or post-mortems from #webdev projects
* news or overviews of #opensource projects

if it relates to hobbies on "this side of the web," whether you call it the #smallweb or indieweb, we probably want to run it!

you can have your article as low-media (meaning only text and images) or interactive, where you code an entire webpage to help tell your story.

if you're interested in learning more, you can sign up for our email list for when we launch or you can check the submission guidelines @ goodinternetmagazine.com!

(please boost if you can! ❤)

Guys, I literally just found this new track about 30 minutes ago and calling it now, you're gonna be hearing this everywhere in the next two weeks. The production on this is kind of insane, really sounds like it could've come out in 1978 or something. Incredible stuff. Debbii Dawson - You Killed The Music: youtube.com/watch?v=aFLh58plBY…

A year ago the third #curl security audit completed, that time covering our HTTP/3 implementation.

It revealed **no** major discoveries or security problems.

Ugh, I can't seem to use the Discord inbox at all under Linux. That's going to be kind of a big deal.

Filed this a while back but was hoping it was either a Chromium or Electron issue. Seems to happen in Firefox as well.

Going to still try daily driving Linux this week but if I can't use the Discord inbox then that's going to hurt. Real shame Element/Matrix isn't a compelling accessible alternative yet.

@Tutanota Hey - I tried to sign up, but failed, I assume because I'm using a VPN.

For a security focused email provider, this is off putting. It also makes me worried that even if I manage to sign up, future access may require to have my VPN off, which is not going to happen.

Is this something you are aware of? Any plans to address it? Searching a bit brings up a lot of results discussing this issue, but no FAQ from you.

Since I found a working and screen reader-accessible PoW-based captcha which is super easy to implement on a site and people have been telling me to switch from RecaptchaV3 for years, I had a reason to write Verity, a tiny and super fast server for Altcha. Feel free to check it out and contribute should you wish to. This is currently the most feature-complete and secure implementation of an Altcha server to date to my knowledge. #captcha #altcha #free
