America’s Mobile Security Crisis: Time for a Secure Alternative

ABC News reports a disturbing reality: smartphones used by U.S. officials, journalists, and tech execs are being hit by zero-click cyberattacks—many tied to Chinese state-backed hackers.

These silent intrusions bypass user interaction entirely, turning mobile phones into weapons of espionage.

@leighms No. I know these people. They're well meaning and will give you the shirt off their back if you need it, but they're not very smart and they're very xenophobic except they somehow turn that off when it comes to people doing construction or milking their cows. Somehow those people are acceptable, but anyone else brown is invading our country :911:

There's not a lot of hope for these people. If they do go to church, they're the kind that's ok with a sexual predator priest being moved to another diocese to hide their crimes. Has happened before, will happen again. So it goes...

Also they suffer from some pretty serious alcoholism. (go look up the maps, one of the worst counties in the USA for alcoholism / binge drinking)

the worst of the crazy people there are pretty well represented by these photos

Amount of hours spent to keep a default #chatmail onboarding relay with 500k active addresses running: near zero.

Glancing at stats sometimes: two million messages per day. CPU and IO load at 20% max. 500gb raid1 ssd meandering around 60 percent full. There is room for various optimizations but no big need currently.

end-to-end encryption with metadata minimization is best if servers are boring. No clustering or enterprise license needed, no "SRE team" either.

Our Community Office Hours is back, and this month we've taken a deep dive into our latest yearly Extended Support Release, Thunderbird 140.0 ESR "Eclipse." We're talking with our Sr. Manager of Desktop Engineering (and introducing our new Manager of Community Programs) and talking about its new features, what didn't make the cut, and why you should give our new Monthly Release a try.

I have been working with them already. Bugzilla is here: bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.…

Problem seems to be in the upgrade and that old AT&T account. I keep it since many old accounts still email that address even though I put in a different email. Generally this happens when new apps are created and don't connect to the old databases. Then old databases are used to send emails.

Working with customer service in many of them is hard since so many only use chat bots or non-working AI.

> I have to pass 256Kb of text as an argument to the "aws sqs"

what, uhhh, what

> MAX_ARG_STRLEN is defined as 32 times the page size in linux/include/uapi/linux/binfmts.h:
> The default page size is 4 KB so you cannot pass arguments longer than 128 KB.
> I modified linux/include/uapi/linux/binfmts.h to #define MAX_ARG_STRLEN (PAGE_SIZE * 64), recompiled my kernel and now your code produces

casually patching the kernel to send a quarter megabyte as a *single* argument oh my god i'm laughing hard

in reply to kloenk

Back when 128 kB was the limit for argv+envp, Google was hitting it too because they passed all the configuration for their whole software stack on the command line as --long-option=value switches.

Their solution? Compress the command line. So every binary started by ungzipping argv[1] and parsing it to get the configuration.

The person explaining this to me saw my horrified face, and said with the perfect Hide The Pain Harold smile: "a series of individually completely rational and reasonable decisions led to this." and I have been thinking a lot about it since.

I don’t think I’m remotely alone in finding the pathetic and spineless response of world leaders to the war in Gaza absolutely disgusting.

How fucking hard is it to simply DO THE RIGHT THING?

Why? Why the fuck can’t they do the right thing?

Yes, there will be consequences. Yes there will be pushback. Yes there will be spurious accusations of antisemitism. But so what?

I’m so disgusted with almost all of them.

During WWII MANY governments knew what was going on inside Germany, but they were also engaged in a world war.

Here, there’s no excuse. Every single leader in the world KNOWS they are watching genocide (or at the very least ethnic cleansing, if they’re too squeamish for the other word).

How the fuck have they convinced themselves they can somehow tiptoe through this morally, ethically, historically.

It speaks volumes about how amoral they are, to how stupid and short sighted they are.

in reply to Madeleine Morris

You know, I absolutely understand the argument that there is very little most countries (other than the US) can do to stop this. But there is something - they can call it what it is. They can stop trading with the perpetrators. They can stop pretending not to see the enormity of the atrocity.

Because this moral deficit, this failure to even be a clear-eyed witness… this is unforgivable. Historically unforgivable.

Meta to stop selling political ads in the EU from October techcrunch.com/2025/07/25/meta… The EU "mandates companies selling ads to clearly label political ads; provide information about their sponsor, the election or referendum they concern, what the ad cost, and targeting mechanisms used".

Meta is sad: “we’re seeing regulatory obligations effectively remove popular products and services from the market".

With whom is micro-targeted brainwashing popular, you shady zuckwits?
