No, we don't plan to add more support for OAuth2 until providers stop the practice of requiring client registration: support.delta.chat/t/outlook-n…

We supported OAuth2 for Gmail in the past. First they required us to justify the need to get full IMAP access and then they updated the requirements and revoked our client ID: github.com/deltachat/deltachat…

Not going to repeat this mistake again.

Children engaging in scientific reasoning, as recorded roughly 2500 years ago in a Daoist (not Confucian!) text:

Confucius was heading east when he came across two little boys arguing, and asked what was going on.

One boy said: "I think that at sunrise, the sun is nearer to us, and at noon, it is further away."

The other boy said: "I think it is farthest at sunrise and nearest at noon."

The first boy said: "At sunrise it is as big as an umbrella, and at noon it's more like the lid of a jar. Doesn't that show when it is near and when it is far?"

The other boy said: "At sunrise it is chilly, and at noon water warms to the touch. Doesn't that mean it's near when it's warm and far when it's cool?"

Confucius had no idea who was right. The little boys laughed at him: "We thought you were supposed to be smart, loser!"

Source text: ctext.org/liezi/tang-wen#n3747…

Translation note: I'm getting "loser" from how they boldly address him with the inferior-thou pronoun, which is what Confucius would use to address *his* students.

It’s Sunday, and once again, time for another Sonic Synergy to invade the airwaves and earholes of those who dare to tune in tonight at 6 PM eastern on HKC Radio.
Tonight, we have a special guest, none other than our drum student Pax.
We have no idea what’s gonna go on tonight, so it’s as much of an adventure for us.
All I can say is strap in and tune in. It’s gonna be an amazing ride.
Extremely NSFW, and not for everyone.

Nenapadá vás někdo, kdo by potřeboval počítač?

So… Mastodon!! You ever wake up and say to yourself “God, you know what sounds like an awesome idea right now? Listening to some of the incidental music they used in Unsolved Mysteries back in the 80s and 90s.” Well, now you can!! Click here: youtube.com/watch?v=Gun7PTz-Gf… You’re welcome. :)

@fastfinge @J3317 I recall once that I was doing a platform IT service contract for a large national company. Many many pages of legalese. And in the service specification, it started talking about doing Migration from Middle earth to Mordor. I was so confused..turns out all their servers were LOTR references.
in reply to 🇨🇦Samuel Proulx🇨🇦

@fastfinge I did very briefly, but only just when I was starting out. For context our Window-Eyes here shipped with a hardware dongle for protection for a very long time as well as realspeak voices, the Polish one that was installed by default being named Agata. So of course that's what we called it, the dongle that is. Because that's totally what made the computer talk. I stopped using that name very quickly when I realised I could change the voice.

Aurora received nearly $350 since last night and is unbelievably grateful for y'all coming through for her yet again.

She said that she is all set, but if you do recurring giving, please do continue to send a few bucks her way as you're able. She lives on a very low income and has almost no community support. It's not uncommon for her to get stranded at the hospital with no ride home—and these last-minute asks can be incredibly stressful, so having money on hand helps so much.

I wish I could wrap my head around how inept a human brain must be in order to observe something with it's senses, immediately followed by communications that state that said object was not observed with said senses. I mean, call me unimaginative or stupid, but I simply cannot fathom how a sighted person can litterally be looking at something directly within their field of vision, directly aligned with the central axis of their not one working eye, but two working eyes, and yet they say with confidence, within half a second of being asked, that they don't see said object. Like just wow! I cannot, for the life of me, imagine that I could actually hear a sound with my ears, have someone ask me if i heard said sound, and immediately blurt out that I didn't hear it with no actual forethought or processing that I had actually indeed heard the sound. Like wow. It just blows my mind.

@jacobscharmberg Thanks! As for your last question: I've heard there are people solely or mostly working from their phones, some of them no longer having a PC even. And in poorer areas, this might even be a question of what people can effort.

So if it's still working, and considered useful, I guess we can keep it. It's not that big 😉

Thanks a lot for your valuable input again! 🤗

Sooooo... thinking about the possibility and feasibility of big life changes, namely studying opera seriously in Europe. Would love to connect with other #Blind language learners, especially those using #braille as a component of their learning. Currently learning #French. Am particularly interested in chatting with people who have taught themselves grade 2 French Braille as well as those who are either conversational or fluent and/or who have worked in or currently live in a Francophone European country. If this is you or you're in any way adjacent to this world, please reach out. Would love to talk to you. Would also love to chat with people who use #MusicBraille / #BrailleMusic in Europe.

Duda linuxera:

What’s a great example you love of a technical blog post (or similarly shaped writing) that:

- explains a tool, technique, technical idea
- by trying it to the author’s specific project or experience
- but also illuminates a larger concept, a bigger picture?

I don’t just want tutorials; I want writing that illuminates. I’m thinking of things where you read it and had a reaction like:

“Oh, FINALLY, I get it now!”
“What a nice example of _____!”
“This is great. I’m going to bookmark this for the next time I need to use / explain / teach a colleague to use _____.”

Looking for writing examplars to share with students. I want your favorites.

Question for my fellow #linux people: I'm looking for a nice, simple, lightweight standalone image viewer. Looking for recommendations along these lines:
- Proper Wayland support
- Maintained to some extent
- Works without a whole DE behind it (it can be associated with a DE, just not depend on it)
- No red flags in the git repo / community / website / etc
- Doesn't explode when coming into contact with mildly "exotic" inputs

How to have a #Thanksgiving war*:

Suggest everybody go out for a meal to save labor and time.

Decline to bring the traditional green bean casserole.

Worse: try to make the green bean casserole "healthier".

Put marshmallows in the sweet potato dish.

Forget the olives on the crudité plate.

Try to make it all a "healthy" meal instead.

Decline to bring anything but a fresh green salad, then get mad when nobody but you eats it.

Order Indian food a day ahead -- which your nephew requested, but your mother hates.

Refuse to cook, but insist on gathering anyway, forcing other people to bring everything.

Drink too much wine, way too early.

Insist that everyone watch a Hallmark movie instead of the football game.

Go out foraging in the park for the centerpiece, but don't come back for three hours.

Burn the rolls.

Put margarine on the table instead of butter.

Neglect to start thawing out the turkey two days ahead of time.

Time the cooking of the dishes inconsistently so the kitchen gets jammed up.

Roast a chicken instead of a turkey.

Even worse, offer only tofurkey.

Bring up the fact that it's a colonizer holiday that we should not be celebrating at all.

Lay on the couch watching a football game on your phone rather than helping with the dishes.

Let everybody know you're gluten-free, vegan, or kosher, or some combination of or all of the above.

Ghost your family and stay home under the covers with your phone off.

*based on true family stories! I hate this holiday. 😞

Tesco Ireland dont seem to be fans of 3rd party loyalty card wallets, such as #Catima.
Today, Tesco staff refused to process my shopping as I didn't have the official Tesco App installed on my phone.
There was a manager involved and the issue was over not wanting to give me the benefit of a loyalty card discount without the app (or physical card). The end result was that I cancelled my purchase.

RE: mastodon.social/@Tutanota/1155…

FYI: by turning off "Smart features" Google also turns off spell check and the promotions & social tabs.

So to "enjoy" all feature in Google, you must give consent to AI tracking. That's privacy blackmail and should be illegal.

🚨 BREAKING #Google just activated #Gemini on #Gmail - without asking you.

Turn it off now; here's how!

✊️ Fight AI & fight Google

You have to manually turn off Smart Features in the Setting menu in TWO locations.

A fundamental weakness of Capitalism is to allow something that starts as a good idea to accumulate, concentrate and grab up too much power and wealth that undermines the entire system. This critique is directed at all mega-corps including Apple who has been hobnobbing with Mr Desructo. It’s untenable when we’re ruled by a handful of asshole Bs pulling the strings behind the curtain.
