I've just pushed a new build of #NVDARC for Mac which adds self hosting your own remote server when in be controlled mode, but since I had to add a new network connection entitlement, Apple has to review the build all over again. So be on the lookout for build 16!

Reasons are, as so often, historical. Computer software form and best practice does in many ways originate in the US during the 1970s and 80s - right the time US copyright switched from requiring a full notice of (c) symbol, year and author to not doing so. So it comes mostly by continued practice. Mostly as US law is still case law for most parts, which means that having a classic notice may give a better standing. Then again, the year itself may only once the item gets past any of the thresholds - which are quite long by now.
So for all practical reasons, it would have been sufficient to only note the year each file was created first - removing the need for yearly updates. This gives a minimum duration of 50 (Berne) or 70 (EU/US) years after your death. That's as of now something like 2076. Sure, libcurl may be still in use by then - if we still use computers and not clay tablets again - I would think any possible dispute has been solved already :)
On a side note, the EU still recommends the use of a copyright notice: europa.eu/youreurope/business/…

Also it's a huge problem with blind people because in general we don't have notion of left and right, we read all interfaces in a virtual environment line by line (in web) or in tab order (in native dialogs). So "top right" tells nothing, given also that most screen readers place the elements into virtual view in order of *code*, not in visual order. #Accessibility

The original yacc had a limitation that it couldn’t complete a parse if the last token was a valid token and required a white space character afterwards. This ended up being incorporated in specifications in a bunch of places. It’s undefined behaviour in C to not end a file with a new line because early C compilers couldn’t handle it. I presume the crontab rule in POSIX is the same. Modern yacc implementations don’t have this limitation and so there’s little reason not to accept things with missing terminating newlines (in both cases, the program is free to accept non-conforming inputs). At the very least, there’s no excuse for not raising an error.
@david_chisnall is this the reason why git will complain "No newline at end of file" as well? Like a hint that you're in for a bad time if you don't have one?
