AI captions do not conform to #WCAG they usually require a lot of work to make them usable

The highest-risk areas for real harm are: (1) named entities/numbers, (2) multi-speaker attribution, (3) timing/readability, and (4) hallucinated “corrections.”

Oh goody, a LinkedIn connection request with a message!

Let’s break this down:

> …vc backed…
Focused on quarterly profits / RoI instead of outcomes.

> …invite-only…
NDAs and other gag agreements.

> …openAI browser…
Chromium that begs authors for ARIA to parse content.

> …seeing promising results…
Which aren’t genuine results.

> …goal is 100% WCAG testing…
Ah, snake oil.

> …with high capture rates.
Sales targets, not WCAG coverage.

Finally hit publish on a blog post I've been writing for a while.

It's common to hear the term "fully accessible" used to describe products which have passed WCAG 2.2 level AA. But, are they really?

In this post, I explore 5 examples which highlight why WCAG, as awesome as it is, is not a measure of great usability or performance.

this video was going to be made public at some point ... but as this seems to have stalled (and there's really no financial incentive anymore that the conf can gain from keeping this 16 month old video under lock and key) ... here's the recording of my (then) updated talk "These (still) aren't the SCs you're looking for..." from 19 October 2023 / #a11yTO / Toronto youtube.com/watch?v=ADIgU53Y2R… #a11y #wcag #barrierefreiheit #accessibility

Great talk by @mrchrisadams at @fosdem this year. Loved how he explored #WCAG's #POUR in the context of older devices. Not everyone can update their devices every 2 years, but absolutely nobody should!

Happy 25 years of WCAG!

On this day in 1999, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 were published. WCAG 2.2 is still one of the most important standards on the web, ensuring a base level of access for everyone.
