It is time once again for me to ask all #unix #retrocomputing enthusiasts to dust off their old iron and run a test program. This one's about corner cases of mmap().

I want to know about OSes that fail one or more of the tests, no matter how old they are.

I have already tested current versions of Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, AIX, and Solaris. Further testing with these is only useful if you can identify an exact version number where something changes (e.g. "FreeBSD prior to version x.y fails tests A, B, C"; "AIX prior to version w.z does not recognize XPG_SUS_ENV=ON"; that sort of thing). I don't expect any CPU dependence for this test, but if you discover some, that is also worth knowing about.

Please report results by following up to <lists.gnu.org/archive/html/aut…>. (You can write to this mailing list without subscribing.) Please do not reply to this post with results, or email me directly.

(I'm happy to talk about the test itself on here, say if you want help understanding what's being tested or you're having trouble getting it to compile or like that. But I really need all the results in one place.)

Please spread this call for testers widely.

В связи с намерениями правительства удалить всю информацию по обходу блокировок из российского сегмента интернета, кто-то, решил принять меры. 🙂

ОН, судя по всему считает, что статьи это важная часть культуры и нашего прошлого.
Особенно, комментарии больших групп образованных людей на habrahabr.ru.

Этот человек, скорее всего считает важным сохранять и распространять полезную информацию.
А так же, делиться мнениями других людей, т.к. это развивает и помогает обществу рости в лучшую сторону.

Не смотря на мои предположения, для меня остается загадкой мотивация этой неизвестной личности.

Но я разделяю некоторые идеи, в плане того, что знаниями нужно делиться.

Мне всегда становится грустно, когда я обнаруживаю умерший сайт,
или удаленную страницу и потерянную информацию.

Поэтому, делюсь этими ссылками с вами.

под которой один человек предложил сохранить статьи по обходу блокировок.

Учитывая времена, думаю стоит сохранить все локально, потому что не известно,

Судя по ссылкам в страницах, они были сохранены с середины марта 2024.
Информация собрана по темам (список вверху) и все рассортировано по папкам.

Сохранены практически все страницы (за исключением откровенно рекламных статей).

Возможно вы встретите небольшое количество дублей, т.к. темы пересекаются.
(так же, встречаются одинаковые статьи опубликованные в разное время, но имеющие разные комментарии)

Возможна какая-то информация вам будет не интересна.

Есть страницы с устаревшей информацией (с 2008 года).
Они и комментарии из этих статей сохранены для истории.

В архиве есть index.html, через который можно искать статьи по ключевым словам через Ctrl+F.
Так же, под этим сообщением есть скриншеты и видео о структуре.

Если у вас в закладках, есть страницы с инструкциями для построения защищенных сетей,
или что-то, что вы считает полезными и это может быть потеряно,

This December, if there’s one tech New Year’s resolution I’d encourage you to have, it’s switching to the only remaining ethical web browser, Firefox. According to recent posts on social media, Firefox’s market share is slipping. We should not let that happen. There are two main reasons why switching is important.

1. Privacy

Firefox is the only major browser not built by a company that makes money from advertising and/or selling your personal data. There’s been a lot of talk about websites tracking users using cookies, fingerprinting and other nefarious technologies that hurt your privacy. But owning the browser puts Google, Apple and Microsoft in a position where they don’t even need those tricks. We need to use browsers that are independent, and right now that means Firefox.

2. Browser engine monopoly

Wikipedia lists four browser engines as being “active”. Browser engines are the bits that take a web page’s code and display it on your screen. Ideally, they conform to the official W3C standards, and display all elements as it describes. If that’s the case, web developers can easily write sites that work on all browsers. No proprietary vendor lock-in nonsense, just glorious open standards at work.

It’s happened before

In the early 2000’s, Internet Explorer had a massive 95% market share. This meant that many sites were only developed for use with IE. They’d use experimental features that IE supported, in favor of things from the official HTML standard. This was a very bad situation, which hindered the development of the World Wide Web.

Currenty, Chrome, Safari and Edge all use variations of the closely related Webkit and Blink engines. If we want to avoid another browser engine monopoly, we need to support Firefox, and its “Gecko” engine.

Firefox is actually really good

If Firefox would be a bad browser, I would not recommend you to switch. It’s fast, has a nice user interface, and feels every bit as modern and elegant as its competition. I’ve been using it as my main browser for a couple of years now, on Linux, Windows, MacOS and Android. As a web developer, I usually have at least three browsers open, but when I go look something up on the web, I pick Firefox.

So please, help save the web by using the best browser out there. It’s an easy thing to do, and it makes a big difference.
