We are grateful to everyone who has become a #FriendsOfGNOME. Your donations help us plan new programs for 2026 and strengthen the future of #GNOME. We also thank all our contributors across many roles, without whom our desktop would not be possible.
Happy Holidays!
One week after we kicked off our year-end fundraiser, we’ve reached 800 #FriendsOfGNOME!
Our goal is a bit more ambitious, though: 1,500 by December 31. Help us out by joining today: donate.gnome.org
If you’ve already joined or are unable to right now, you can still help by sharing this post with friends and colleagues: blogs.gnome.org/foundation/202…
Let's secure the future of GNOME together and enable us to do even more great work next year.

This post was contributed by the Fundraising Committee from the GNOME Foundation. This week we are launching an end-of-year fundraising campaign with a simple goal: to reach 1,500 Friends of GNOME...mariamaj (GNOME Foundation)
We’re soooo close to 800 #FriendsOfGNOME; who is going to be the one to push us over that nice round number?? 👀
@moshimotsu we introduced the desktop notification in the latest release (GNOME 49), so only folks running the very latest will see it. But yes, we started with zero #FriendsOfGNOME through the new donate.gnome.org and are now at 777 recurring donors!
We don’t currently track the source of donations (e.g. whether someone is coming from the notification versus social media or the GNOME.org site), so it’s hard to attribute it all to the desktop notification, but we consider it successful!
This year brought great improvements to #accessibility in GNOME, including:
• Accessibility from the start on the login screen
• Full accessibility of GNOME Web
• Tons of improvements to Calendar
• Screen reader integration for Notifications
• Configure #Orca screen reader from Settings
• GTK apps integrated w/Windows & macOS accessibility
Help us reach 1,500 #FriendsOfGNOME so we can focus on accessibility even more in 2026!

RE: floss.social/@gnome/1156624308…
I've finally put my money where my mouth is and joined the other #FriendsOfGNOME.
I've been using #GNOME since the #HelixCode/#Ximian days shortly after 1.0 and while I have certainly tried other DEs over time, GNOME remains my go-to desktop project after all of these years. It just vibes with how my brain works and what it likes. It is one of my FLOSS rocks.
The consistency, attention to details, and un-overwhelming/non-stim-triggering design has been a comfort to me all of these years later.
I'm finally, 26ish years on, finally in a place that I can actively, and responsibly, support incredible projects like GNOME.
Supporting the GNOME Foundation directly enables us to take on more initiatives like this, paying community members to deliver impactful work. Help us reach 1,500 #FriendsOfGNOME before the end of the year by donating today: donate.gnome.org
What features or initiatives would YOU like to see the GNOME Foundation take on in the coming year?
This year we delivered new Digital Wellbeing features for GNOME including Screen Time history and limits, break reminders for movement and eye health, and improved parental controls with Screen Time integration.
This work was coordinated by the GNOME Foundation thanks to a grant from Endless, and implemented by valued community developers @pwithnall and @ignapk with support from design team member @snwh.

GNOME lanza su campaña de donaciones de final del año. Llevamos casi 30 años con vosotros y ¡queremos hacer más!
¿Quieres ayudarnos a hacer más?
¡Ayudanos a conseguir 1500 donantes antes de final de año!
Mods are asleep, post fediverse meta. Oh, and help us reach 1,500 #FriendsOfGNOME 😆
🐄 Have YOU ever sat on a cow?
Also, especially getting involved in development within the ecosystem, kinda was an incentive for me to join #FriendsOfGNOME.
The project has given me a lot with my own development work. So it makes sense to me to give something back, even if symbolically. In a sense it’s been life-changing as I don’t expect to have gotten in the line of work I’m in now if it weren’t for personal FOSS projects, where GNOME played a central role for me.
RE: floss.social/@gnome/1156504884…
Tak jsem se také přidal. Zrušil jsem předplatné dvou streamovacích služeb, které stejně skoro vůbec nevyužívám, a místo toho jsem se skamarádil s GNOME.
RE: floss.social/@gnome/1156504884…
#Gnome is one of many open source projects I am regularly donating to. I use it every day on laptops at home, on laptop at work and hopefully one day on my daily driven phone. Do you also like it? Donate few dollars too. Be #FriendsOfGnome.
Top 5 reasons GNOME is awesome:
1. Distraction-free: we respect you and include personal digital wellbeing features
2. Accessibility: we work to make computing accessible to all
3. Design: we make a cohesive, modern experience that looks great
4. Free and Open Source: we preserve your freedoms
5. Privacy: your data is yours, and we respect that
If these resonate with you, consider supporting us today! We're aiming for 1,500 #FriendsOfGNOME by the end of the year.
If you’re already supporting GNOME—whether as a long-time donor or a brand new friend—share a post this week with #FriendsOfGNOME to tell the world why! We love to hear, respond to, and boost your stories.
If you’re not supporting GNOME yet, now is your chance: head to donate.gnome.org to join, and help us reach 1,500 Friends of GNOME by the end of the year.
We’re 50% of the way to our goal for the end of the year! 🎉
Have you joined #FriendsOfGNOME yet? If not, this is your sign to join 750 other amazing supporters:
