Push for CalDAV and CardDAV is getting real 😃 We're opening a new chapter of high-speed syncing for the whole open WebDAV/CalDAV/CardDAV ecosystem.

If you want to be the first of the first trying it out yourself you shouldn't miss @nextcloud Conference (Sept. 14 + 15 in Berlin) this year where we'll be revealing this to a broader audience for the very first time!

Here's a teaser of what's coming :)

For more details have a look at our (still ongoing) work here: github.com/bitfireAT/webdav-pu…

We needed to integrate a NextCloud server lately. Could you point me to some documents, what the benefits are? We implemented also document management systems based on 'traditional' HTTPS methods or SFTP and I think I miss some of the benefits WebDav provides? It took us more time to understand these methods and if the port is not an issue, SFTP is also quite straight forward? Don't get me wrong - I am sure you know what you do, I just want to understand it 😅
in reply to Demiurg

@demiurg You'll get a quick overview if you read the "Motivation" section in the link of the posting :)
in reply to DAVx⁵ 🔄

Thank you, I have read this part. Still, I struggle to understand it. We did apps for DMS, which could do all CRUD actions based on JSON and standard HTTPS methods.
The benefit of a protocol is to not have the dependency on a specific implementation of a vendor? So, any WebDav supporting server could be used by the same client implementation, right? Sorry, if I ask stupid questions.

A massive thanks to @davetaylor2112 for alerting me to the UK train ifo app for iOS, 'Nearly Departed.'
Why I didn't know about this or use it sooner is beyond me. It was invaluable yesterday. They also explicitly mention #VoiceOver on the main page, so props to them for that.

'Accessible
The app has been extensively tested with iOS accessibility features, such as VoiceOver and Dynamic Type.'

If you take a lot of national rail trains in the UK and use iOS, you need this app too.

I've seen a few people talking the new "Zen" browser, which is based off of Firefox instead of being yet another Chromium variant.

So I checked out their website[1]... the first big image shows a collection of browser windows. One is being used to browse birdsite, while the other is on GitHub's home page with a tagline "The world's leading AI-powered developer platform".

Their header has a "Useful Links" section which points to

1. Their privacy policy
2. Their **discord**

Then I looked at their privacy policy and apparently if you want to contact the dev team your options are:

1. again, their discord
2. github

Folks, I'm just gonna go ahead and say you should skip this one.

This is not better.

macOS Sequoia will now prompt you monthly (not weekly) for screen recording permissions

@fireborn Living with something and being the most effective are two different things. They're trying to pidgeonhole a solution into a framework they already have. It's fine if it's elegant. But it's not.

They keep inviting me on for some reason, so I keep having tech opinions! relayfm.social/@clockwise/1129…

New story: macOS Sequoia's new screen recording permissions prompt will now appear on a monthly basis instead of weekly. The requirement to re-approve after a reboot has also been removed.

Better, but still not great. 9to5mac.com/2024/08/14/macos-s…

And SimpMusic now also made it into the RB group. A "flaky build" (non-deterministic), but still RB if you run it another time 🤷‍♂️

Email aliases offer more than just keeping your primary address secret! 🤫

Email Aliases can:
✅ Reduce spam
✅ Protect your identity
✅ Reduce the risk of phishing
✅ Help with mailbox organization

in reply to Tuta

Oh then this might be a bug if not intentional. I just opened a browser to double check if it was still possible, and I was able to successfully login using one of my aliases as my username. :(
in reply to Mikelius

@mikelius Sorry, what was said earlier is wrong: You can login with the alias as well. To safeguard your login credentials, we recommend adding a second factor (best a hardware key): Something you have makes your login so much more secure compared to something you simply 'hide' like an alias.

in reply to Iván Rivera

Siempre me sorprende la capacidad humana para generar distopías de saldo.

I’m pretty sure I ran into this in the 90’s with the same investigation and results (changed the registry setting). Only back then it was something like a 5-10 sec delay.

Maybe you can shame them into fixing it.

So, I was a dungeon master when I was a kid.
But I didn't know it.

When my sister and I were playing in the backyard, I would stand at the top of the stairs and say something like, OK. I am Nancy Drew and you're George, and we have to rescue Bess. This is a pirate ship. And we have to go into the basement.

(Don't judge.)

And bam! We played. I would add plots and twists, and Bess was always rescued. Or we foiled a kidnapping or we found the treasure or we were japanese variety singers who were ALSO detectives.

Goddammit. I wanna play some D&D! I had no idea this was what it was!!

When exactly did Google became Apple? Not visible in the picture but that cable has the lowest specs: USB 2.0, 3A.

And I thought IKEA LILLHUT for € 5,99 was too expensive. 🙄

Well, it actually is, compared to SITTBRUNN for € 2,49.

in reply to Ondřej Caletka

On the hardware site, they kinda always wanted to be Apple. And on the ecosystem side, well same. Every big company just wants you to use its services and give them your money and/or data. The only reason to get a Pixel is GrapheneOS.

This account generally contains thoughts in my own words, and reposted content in the original posters’ own words. I avoid simple slogans, chants, and pithy statements about current events without further elaboration. Examples include “Support X”, “boost if you believe Y, keep scrolling if you don’t”, and “down with Z”. I’ll also make an effort to move away from idioms that serve as thought-terminating clichés.

I’ll make exceptions for jokes, or for slogans alongside original thoughts or links.

The line between simple slogans on social media and thought-terminating clichés is too blurry in my mind for me to amplify on my own account. I feel that the dynamics on here are different from in-person protests, and we don’t need to resort to easily-filtered/ignored repetitive chants to get people to understand what we’re trying to say. This is more of a personal gut feeling than a strongly-held belief, and I don’t look down on the use of slogans; I just don’t see myself boosting them. I’m happy to boost more nuanced, personal, or substantive posts that lend themselves less to repetition.

But their "corrections" actually *confirm* what TJC reported, which was that death row prisoners had been issued execution notices even while they were party to ongoing legal proceedings.
