IOS 26 is going to make it possible to add ringtones using the share sheet. Tech sites are not hyping this up enough because you still have to create the ringtone, but I know lots of us know how to do that already and just need the easy way to add it to our phone without going through iTunes. And now, approximately 14 years after Apple supposedly untethered the iPhone from the computer, we have it. So now if you go to one of those ringtone sites, or someone texts you an audio file, or you’re handy with Hokusai or some other audio editor for the iPhone, you can make your own ringtones without a billion steps. Like everything else Apple has done in recently years, it’s taken so long for such a basic feature to arrive that it’s hard for me to even be excited about it, but I sure won’t miss blundering my way through iMazing.
What took them so long? That's actually a question I've been asking myself for awhile regarding Apple, such as when iOS finally got a Voiceover tutorial years after the Mac got it.
I think it is high time to remind the world about Music to Ringtone, probably the easiest way to create a ringtone out of anything with a straightforward app. On a related note, are we grownup enough by now to be allowed custom notification tones for apps?

Ahh, so I assume this app relies on Garage Band right now for adding tones without a PC, but now it won't need to? I can try it on my beta phone to see if that works. If so, that makes a really good complete solution.
Yes, it does, making you essentially avoid the not so comfortable trimming experience in GA, especially if you only use it for that. Exporting it there is optional, though and you can go straight into any app you wish.
So... You guys want me to make a ring/text tone collection for you? I've always loved the Apple ringtones and want to try making more in that style, but of course have more personality than the default options.
I guess I am the person who really never bothered with different ringtones. So to me it never mattered. I have bought exactly 2 from the store, and that's it. Just using the same ringtone for everyone, and only one different for messages. Custom ringtones are cool and all, but I am not spending 5 minutes or more setting all that up for different contacts. I have about 100, and only contact about 15. But still. I don't get the hype about custom ringtones. When I was younger, I guess I got it more but then I used android for a long while and even then I couldn't bother with custom ringtones. Guess I won't be criticising Apple on this one, I just don't care enough about it. :D
@tardis I have custom ringtones for my wife and kids because I figure if they're calling and not texting, it's important enough to warrant it, but that's about it.

No idea how I achieved it, but all I wanna here from is my family, and one other person. All my friends can message before calling, unless it's an emergency. I am just that anti call I guess. LOL. Which also makes me not want to bother with custom tones. I always check who calls, or call back after. Ain't going to the other room if a friend decided to call without messaging.

Yeah. My ringtone is only one, but I have caller ID announcement, plus I return calls real fast. If I read it's an unknown number, poof it goes. I had iqos which is a non-heating device brand for smoking, call like 10 times or more, got angry, and blocked every single number of theirs. Only because I let my aunt register with my number. Big mistake, never again. LOL.
I also keep my phone mostly with myself, because, don't know, phone. I like it. I like poking reddit a lot. LOL. But I seriously need a phone change, poor 13pro, it heats up. Good for winter, bad for my hands that are holding even through the case.

Hey! Got the app because of this post. I do have one question. When I activate it using the shortcut and I press arrow keys, I hear a click. I assume this means something is being selected. However the focus doesn’t seem to move to the relevant control or nothing is being announced with VoiceOver. Am I doing something wrong here? I can explore with the VO cursor, but I think it would be even better if pressing the arrows actually announced what you’re selecting. Or is the update not out yet?
@talon Hey Talon — if you’ve installed version 1.12, VoiceOver support should already be working. To be honest, I haven’t had much hands-on experience with VoiceOver so far, so it’s very possible that it doesn’t work exactly as it should in all places. Hey. So most things do work fine. The settings work great! I set my hotkey to cmd+opt+tab. When I press that, the window/overlay opens and I can navigate the window with the VoiceOver cursor. This is great. However when I press the arrow keys, it makes a clicking sound, and sometimes it says something such as "Start playback selected button" when I select it using the arrow keys, and "Start playback button" when I move off of it. I assume the arrows actually select different buttons in the menu, and tab navigates through the different categories? When I press tab, the newly selected button reads. However when I press the arrows, I only hear the click from the app, and VoiceOver does not announce what I have selected this way. The only way I hear the button I’m selecting is by using the VoiceOver navigation commands. Sometimes I do hear the VoiceOver keyboard focus change click, so it is possible that you’re already setting the keyboard focus to the relevant control, though this only seems to happen when I have just opened the overlay. When I press tab, VoiceOver seems to get lost. I’m not sure if this is something that you can actually fix, though I assume it should be possible. My Mac app dev experience is very limited sorry about that.

I’m conflicted on this. My initial reaction upon seeing this was pretty stomach-churning, but in context I kind of see their point here.
For one thing, he’s not supposed to be there, by his own admition. It’s fine that he was, but she doesn’t have a reason to expect to see him there. Furthermore, he’s interrupting her prepared statement. The actual event is 34 minutes long but the questions don’t actually start until 22 minutes in. He gets thrown out around minute five.

The video doesn’t make this super clear, but his opening line is “Madam Secretary, I wanna know why you insist on exaggerated and imbellishing–“ then secret service grabs him. So he does have a question, of sorts, but He has not as yet identified himself. They are not in Washington, to them he is loud shouty man number five. Their job is to make loud shouty people stop shouting, which is what they did. It’s at this point when he announces who he is, but of course they don’t ask him for ID and he doesn’t present any, they just frog-march him out of there so the event can continue.

Speaking of the video, as noted in the article, it doesn’t come from a journalist covering the event. It’s from a member of the Senator’s staff. That’s why it’s such a good angle and why we actually see the moment the cuffs come out, which is why they took him to the side room first: recordings aren’t allowed there. Probably so that a normal member of the public can’t create exactly this sort of viral on-camera moment.
So it kinda does seem like he heard there was a press briefing down the hall, and decided to get a quick media hit by crashing it.

I want to think he didn’t expect nor intend to provoke that strong a reaction, and that they didn’t intend to manhandle a sitting Senator, but we are where we are. Maybe they did recognize him and decided to lean into the authoritarianism. Maybe he had reason to suspect they would. I am not a mindreader. But it certainly does explain why Padilla’s statement afterward was esentially a climbdown: I wasn’t detained, wasn’t arrested, if they can do this to me they’ll do this to anyone–but stay peaceful! ! To do otherwise would imply that he is especially empowered by virtue of being a Senator to be rude at press conferences, which is not the case.
Because of course they aren’t. Because these people never do.

Because of this, users are inadvertently posting sensitive info to a public feed with their identity linked, including prompts with: - exact medical issues - federal crimes committed - tax evasion - home address - interest in extramarital affairs - sensitive court details - private photos of unclothed children - audio asking personal questions - private upcoming travel plans - questions about the legality of actions - challenges in personal relationships - feeling shame with disabilities
What do I recommend as next steps for Meta and other orgs considering a public AI chat bot prompt feed? 1. Pause the public Discover feed. Your users clearly don’t understand that their AI chat bot prompts have been made public. 2. Ensure all AI chat bot prompts are private by default. This goes for all future AI chat bots as well. Don’t wait for users to accidentally post their secrets publicly. Notice that humans interact with AI chatbots with an expectation of privacy, and meet them where they are at. 3. Alert users who have posted their prompts publicly and that their prompts have been removed for them from the feed to protect their privacy.
If I’m able to watch users inadvertently admitting to federal crimes and posting unclothed pictures of their children to the Meta AI Discover Prompt feed, they clearly don’t understand how it works! Meta: Pause the product, bake in clear strong privacy, and help users fix their accidental prompt posts. It’s time to make it right.
Here is a redacted user asking Meta AI about how to ask a judge to not sentence them to death for the murder of 2 people. Clearly Meta users do not believe their Meta AI prompts are publicly available. This one is tied to the user’s identity with elements of their username which I’ve redacted.
If your family, friends, and coworkers aren’t aware that Meta AI chat bot prompts can be easily and accidentally posted to a social media-like feed, please inform them so they can keep their sensitive questions private. Imagine if Google searches were surprisingly showing up on a new social media feed, this would devastate folks.

On the late afternoon of August 5, 2010, we had quite a thunderstorm, during which, an ice cream van was driving around the neighborhood playing Christmas tunes. Someone didn't get the memo, I guess.
When it played 'Silent Night' during this very not silent thunderstorm, I kind of lost it. I can even be heard in this recording attempting to suppress my having lost it, before running away and closing the door, so I could bust out laughing somewhere else, and not mess up the recording.
This was produced with an Olympus DM-520 connected to an Audio Technica AT-822 single-point stereo microphone hanging out of a bathroom window. As I recall, the positioning of the microphone was not optimal, so I did some re-processing of the stereo image.
So, for Lexi's Audio Shit Fest, part6, i have decided to relive a moment of my childhood! Hear goes nothing! For sum context, i used Talking Typer from the American Printing House For The Blind, growing up as a kid, and going into my early teenage years! This peace of software did really have an impact on my life, dispite me at the time as a middle schooler, not thinking that. I detested this program, and it took me over five years, to realize how important it is for people, no matter what disability they had, at least have typing skills, especially in today's society. I need to say, i made the first few errors on accident, as i did not realize my capslock was on. Sorry guies. Anyways, thanks for enjoying Lexi's Audio Shit Fest!
Oh my, really? That's pretty cool actually, since on um, Windows 7 I think we had at one time, they didn't sound any different. Then again they probably haven't updated the MS WaveTable synth in decades.
It’s funny, was just talking with @gallagher123123 about this the other day. I know several years back, like macOS lion, mountain lion, etc, Apple did have midi playback capability in QuickTime and they used a very similar synth. It’s originally from Roland, and I think they licensed it to both Microsoft and Apple, but they each sound a little different. It’s still in macOS today, but playing back midi files isn’t natively supported anymore.
It's a Sound Canvas sound set. Mostly low quality samples from the SC-55, but it also includes SC-88 and 88Pro samples for some instruments. Roland licensed that particular sound set to a lot of companies in the 90s, including Microsoft and Apple, and Roland's old Virtual Sound Canvas is essentially an updated version of it. From what I remember of Apple's gm.dls, it's smaller than Microsoft's copy by about 2 mb, and also didn't work properly with GS Wavetable for some reason.

I think one of the reasons that Windows phones didn't catch on is just the lack of apps. They introduced it too late; everyone was developing for iOS or Android. I remember liking some features of my Windows phone, mainly the launcher itself. It was nice being able to have what was essentially the Windows 8 start menu and picking what size icons I wanted for each app. The UI was kinda a gimmick. I have a love and hate relationship with the metro style. For some apps it absolutely makes sense... for others though? It just felt kinda square and clunky.
