Vloni touhle dobou jsem se začal chystat na důchod. Mám před sebou ještě 12 let a, s prominutím, holou prdel. Vybral jsem penzijní a zainvestoval vlastními silami.
Dva brokeři: 1) XTB, kde držím velkou většinu a kde mám pouze ETF a pomocí DCA pravidelně měsíčně vkládám hotovost a doufám, že za těch 12 let se zhodnotí.
2) eToro, kde si hraju s drobnými. Traduji akcie. Moc tomu nehovím, jen tak nějak chápu o co jde přirozenou inteligencí a všeobecným rozhledem, za přispění čtyř YouTube kanálů o investování.
A blíží se konec roku a vidím, že díky Trumpovi a jeho debilitě šly trhy do háje a když se konečně z hájů vrátily, je v háji pro změnu dolar, takže zisk nic moc. Spíš nic. Avšak ten trading, ten se mi povedl. Jsem opatrný, smrdím korunou, a i přes tu opatrnost hle, o kolik jsem překonal index S&P500. To mě těší, opravdu. Snad ten důchod nakonec nebude tak zlej.
nicméně je třeba dodat, že tohle je dobrá strategie s horizontem >10 let. Kdybych měl 5 let do důchodu, tak už v akciích na důchod nespořím. Když to pak řachne těsně před důchodem, tak to není sranda. Já jsem investice na mnoho let vyřešil stavbou domu. Máme velkou hypo, takže můžu jakékoliv přebytečné peníze sypat do ní se zhodnocením 6 % při nulovém riziku. 🙂

@Doomed_Daniel because it’s what they are used to I can see. I don’t know how much the affordability argument matters in a lot of cases. Most people finance devices through a carrier anyway. I don’t know about elsewhere in the world, but in the UK, the way carriers are offsetting the cost difference, at least on a month-to-month basis, is that most contracts for android devices are 2 years. iPhones can be 2 or 3. This sometimes, not always, actually results in the cost month-to-month being lower for the iPhone. This doesn’t factor in the extras that they like you to bundle, of course, like Netflix, Apple Music, airpods, an Apple Watch, etc.
For the people buying devices outright, yes. Affordability matters.
@Doomed_Daniel And it's the clear winner as far as afordability goes, from an international standpoint. Let us not forget that the biggest threat to alternatives has for quite some time been the FCC. IT's not simply enough for the OS-doopoly to exist, but the cost of getting circulation rights for devices with cellular radios is at or near a 5figure amount which just about kills any effort from smaller companies trying to do alternative phones.

Banking apps often require device integrity verification, and due to PSD2, many banks won't even let you log in online unless you do 2FA through their app.
ANd to think, all this could've been solved with a wireless and/or usb card-reader or similar fdevice. Obviously banks have various practical reasons to require some sort of unshakable protections to satisfy fin-tech regulations, but nowhere within fin-tech regulations does it say that the authenticity mechanism had to be the actual device in question. Making the phone quite literally do it all is the very reason we're in this quandry with no real way through other than out.
@jackf723 Those used to be options, and still are to some extend and at some banks, but AFAIK, our regs require that the external device shows you the amount and payee before you can confirm the transaction, in case the primary device is hacked and silently replaces those. This means extremely specialized devices, which are easy to lose, hard to replace, and may or may not have accessibility.
@miki Ahh, so that 's where it falls apart. Wonder how effective reinforced entry would be for that one, I.E. swipe the card once for hte authentication, then swipe again for the purchase so that the device can passively query the phone for tampering, and reject the authentication if such is suspected.
@miki In order for the external device to show the cost and payee, wouldn't it have to store that in memory? So if the primary device did silently replace those, wouldn't the device be able to tell that something isn't right if it doesn't match its own stored value?
@jackf723 Ah. the way this usually works is that the totp code / signature includes this data in the calculation, so the bank will reject the attempt if these don't match.
This would mean that the device would need to be connectible to the computer / phone, which is a huge hassle. AFAIK South Korea tried something like this once, and it resulted in an entire mess of ActiveX, having to use IE6 when the rest of the world has moved on, and the whole stack not working with newly-released devices (think smartphones).
@Doomed_Daniel Yeah I can remember when I had to actually save up to purchase my unlocked phone that I own myself like a big kid. People don't do that with iPhones, they just pay extra per month and then trade in the device every 18 months.
@Doomed_Daniel Whatever their reasons may be, I do agree with Daniel that in my opinion the general Android userbase does not use Andriod for its openness. And I really hate to admit that, because it means there won't be nearly enough backlash to get Google to walk this change back.
At least with desktop Linux it runs on most x86 computers. With open source android roms... considering how many phones are already super locked down bootloader-wise, I'm scared to see what the future looks like.
This is excellent. I didn't know about the upcoming change until I read this article but I couldn't have said any of it better. I imagine stuff like Lineage is also about to get way more popular, which means it's time to figure out what options exist for installing it completely independently.

@prism And Tailscale is making some solid progress in the cross-platform file transfer department. Even more ironic in a not-so-great way is that Android is the platform that requires a setup arguably more complex than iOS and macOS to get Taildrop working properly.

@JamminJerry there are several tiers of people. Those that do not sideload, those that do, and those that know about adb. There is a step between those who do not and those who do, but the step between those who do and those who are comfortable with adb is larger.
I am one that knows about ADB, but don't know much at all. I have just used it to install things on a watch, until now they have changed it to where ADB doesn't work quite that way, so you have to use an app called wair 2 installer. and way back in 2014, I did use ADB to install custom roms, but I made batch files, so I didn't mess the commands up. yes, most people aren't going to know about ADB, so for them, it will make things harder for sure. will they want to learn about it is another question, but I was just saying that technically, they aren't getting rid of side loading, they are just making it harder. I personaly don't like it, but at the end of the day, what can we do aside from politely complaining about it? make your voice heard, but don't be rude about it, as then they deffinitly won't listen.

I've used Android since the Nexus One. I've always relied on side-loading so it's super frustrating that this is getting killed. I've also genuinely enjoyed Android and never felt compelled to switch to iOS (yet). Good and bad apps exist in both platforms. So does spyware, Apple just controls the iOS spyware. iCloud has always been a pinky promise away from Apple or a third party unlocking it.
Yes, down-market Android hardware exists that doesn't work as well but I've always only had solid hardware. Nexus, Pixel, OnePlus, Nothing, Samsung have always made solid, usually inventive hardware that Apple borrows from years later. They've been fun and exciting. I can still power them on and use them. And I appreciate that the cheaper hardware enables less affluent to at least use a smartphone.
@Viduno cheaper hardware matters for those who cannot or will not finance a phone from a carrier. Here in the UK, iPhones can actually be cheaper month to month on longer term contracts.
We should probably all be using GrapheneOS and I've enjoyed using that and PostmarketOS. And I can't help but believe that we wouldn't have real alternatives like those without Android, with all its flaws. Android might disappear but if Apple controlled everything, GrapheneOS simply wouldn't exist.
and I understand the point you're making. I'm just providing examples from my own experience to illustrate that my experience does not reflect the state of Android you describe. I find value in it beyond just side-loading, although it doesn't make me happy they are eroding that value. I hope they backtrack (unlikely) and still develop distinguishing features for it (possible)

Not everyone has the time or devotion to be a tech guru. LOL. So, no, not their problem, still stupid googly's problem. Google......many devices are available without Google services or can be flashed to use Android without Google Services....this still makes the platform way more open and simultaneously secure than Apple devices.

What bothers me are the people that want the Fediverse to be 1:1 copycat of centralised services and as that isn't the case declare it to be a failed experiment. I'll stay here. It's better. Is all.

I don't think it needs to be or even should be its own instance patrons have to make fedi accounts on. Rather, it could just approve follows from an existing fedi account based on payment. You'd request follow to a closed-follows account, give your account handle when making payment, then get approved.
the payments situation is going to be a nightmare because it will be terribly unreliable. Even a platform like OF (or any porn site really) has to use many payment processor backends simultaneously.

Was a bit less sarcastic-sounding there, honestly this stuff can and sadly does happen since features roll-out without thorough checks everywhere, but I'd hope to see something like this fixed rather quick after launch to minimize that disruption of the unexcusableness.
@menelion oh yeah! You can do a /feedback right from within the app, it probably goes to the same folks as I've gotten some reps who were always the same (Simon) for testing accessibility stuff. Sometimes they'd even repro it within their team and tell me if they found the problem or not, honestly one of the best feedback experiences even if it goes through the regular customer channels first.

TIL that while there is a unicode superscript character for trademarks ( ™ ) there isn't one for latin ordinal indicators. E.g. There's no "st" superscript character to use with 1st.
BUT, there ARE "minuscule" superscript characters of the full English alphabet (tough shit if your language needs diacritics over letters i guess 🤷♀️)
So, you can fake "1st" with those but the font handling isn't great: 1ˢᵗ, 2ⁿᵈ, 3ʳᵈ, 4ᵗʰ…

This fixes a crash bug which was reported using the new #ACRA crash reporter functionality *less than 3 hours after the last version released*. If that's not an ACRA success story I don't know what is ;)
For those curious the fixed bug is github.com/CatimaLoyalty/Andro…. ACRA delivered a very clear stack trace and other information like the Android version which helped to triage this quickly.
Interestingly enough, this code that crashed seems to have been around for *8 years*, a very simple off-by-one error. Due to a series of circumstances, the user ended up with a card with no header colour.
When picking a header colour, the name of the card was used and modulus 8 was done on it. However...

Given there were only 7 valid colours, that means there was a 1 in 8 chance of picking an invalid colour, causing a crash.
The most surprising part, to me, is not the bug. It's a very simple mistake to make. What does surprise me though is that a crash issue in 8 year old code never got reported before.
This is yet another reminder that if you're frustrated about something, make sure it's actually reported! The dev may simply not be aware of the issue! :)

It looks like F-Droid is looking into buying new servers, but it also looks like Google might be releasing a new version of the Android Gradle Plugin soon which supports such old hardware again. So the next release may reach F-Droid again :)

No. They asked us if we wanted to be included and we politely declined, but they have a right to redistribute open source software. We asked them not to make it look like an official posting but they seem to have ignored that request. Our understanding is that MuseHub adds some sort of wrapper to software they redistribute so we do not recommend using it.
The primary reason why I asked was because LMMS got an offer for a partnership on Muse Hub, and we were discussing it on their Discord server. I then decided to look at Muse Hub myself and then discovered Mixxx on Muse Hub.
From the Discord server, it appears that someone from MuseHub is looking into it. I don't know if you'll get contacted again or what but I thought I'd let you all know what's going on.
It looks like Muse has updated Mixxx to the latest version, so that's nice to see. The linked manual is still old, though.
We do sign our Windows installer, so it's possible to confirm if that's been modified. Our other installers take a little more work to compare SHA values or otherwise determine if they match our builds.
